He was born in 1917 in West Virginia, where he was taught to hate blacks, he was elected in 1954 when sentiment was still strong throughout parts of the US.

By the way, banks trading risky investments for their own accounts had nothing to do with the collapse. Mortgages , and those securities did, fueled by Fannie, Freddie buying the mortgages from banks. When Reagan entered office the National debt was $ 1 trillion. When he left it was $3.5 Trillion. Much of that was spent on failed military projects. Unemployment rose in his first two years, they went down but not nearly as good as when Clinton was in office. Republicans like him just because he wasn't a complete failure like Nixon.

Iran Contra is a beautiful episode in Reagan`s career. Democrats were OK with funding conservative forces (Contras) fighting communism in Ortega`s Nicaragua, but then stopped funding the Contras, So Ollie North, and Admiral Poindexter sold off old military junj to Iran, and funded the Contras with the proceeds. Oliie and the Admiral maintained it was all their idea, Reagan coudnt be touched. Fox has employed Ollie ever since. Adolph Coors gave 2 mill to North to fight commies also. Cool!

Reagan increased our national debt by 186% and his moronic "trickle down" economics. Clinton, on the other hand, left his 8 years with a SURPLUS, not debt. It only took 8 more years of coke head Bush jr to put us back into severe debt.

All Clinton had to worry about was where his next bj was going to come from. That is why Reagan is remembered as a great President and Clinton will always be remembered as a joke. BTW, it was Gingrich and the Rep's who FORCED Clinton to balance the budget.

Clinton benefited from the "dot com" era. The new jobs during those years were part time jobs. Bush inherited a recession from Clinton. That's a fact and I have links. Credible links.
