Very nice! I am just now beginning to learn the Chinto kata, and I really admire the snap and pop of your techniques and the strength of your performance. Really nice!
@Kinghercules Then you are not a true Martail Artist for making such a coment and you must still be young in the mind. A wise man would learn from all systems, Katas are done to practice the basics, simplicity is the key, along with CHI (inner energy). But in time you will learn this. Peace and Harmony be with you...
Thanks for the comment. Perhaps we view kata differently. Kata is not always about literal combative application. Much of kata teaches principles and theory of combat. If you watch an Okinawan master perform kata you will see the majority of the kata is not done at combat speed or from realistic fighting postures. Kata holds the formulas that are applied in actual combat. Kumite is where you see the the formula in action in real speed, time and appropriate posture according to the situation.
You are absolutely right. Personal height, speed, strength, power, reach...it will all determine personal variations in your advantages and disadvantages. I am only 5'8", so in most cases my goal is to close distance fast and fight on the inside where I am strong. I focus on developing precision in my strikes and make every strike penetrate to the core. I can't risk going toe to toe with someone larger. Drop him fast and move on!
Do you work from a Seisan dachi, Sanchin Dachi, or a "fighting" Seisan dachi? It's hard for me to tell on the video. I've seen iterations of all three. And personally, my Seisan has morphed into more of a natural Sanchin in the last few years.
I was originally taught to work from a forward Seisan dachi. However, I tend to prefer a diagonal Seisan. The kata principles are for fighting attackers from opposite directions and in a narrow space. By having a longer stance, I can cover more distance and keep my attackers from closing in and overwhelming me.
That makes a lot of sense. Out of interest, would your height have anything to do with your application and the way you use your stances? It's hard to tell how tall you are, so how tall are you? I've been doing a lot of training on my own since moving to Korea. Sorry if this is annoying, I'm really just trying to bounce ideas off of people.
I liked the move after the first elbow. Sharp! you should go to the World Championships! you could take 1st in master's division..5th Dan and up! I know, I have been there done that..seen them... you could win! Lissa Long Danh
Nice. I find Isshin Ryu very interesting (but never practiced it). I like your expression of the kata.

very good. i also practice isshinryu. i feel like a few of your stances are a little deep, but i can chalk that up to personal preferences.

Nicely done. It's great to see traditional Katas done the way they were passed down.

This is the way my style is.
The video is helpful since I'm trying to learn it.
You guys need to chill out though. Just because YOU don't do this style doesn't mean u have to piss on it.
