  • IT WAS GEORGE DUBYA!

  • Horace, an Egyptian mythical deity was: Born on December 25, Was born to a Virgin Mother, Healed the sick. I'm not trying to crap on anyone's ideas or anything, but really are they even their ideas? Or are they one of the billions of people who was subjected to one of the most popular takes on religion, told that it was fact, and made to believe that faith (which is the only way to make blind acceptance sound virtuous) is the only way to make their life worth anything? I think that's nonsense.

  • "when push comes, as it does, to shove..." haha I love Hitchens

  • what debate was this?

  • Christopher being a PILI =Perfectly Intelligent Logical Individual.

  • It isn't just radical religion, it is religion. The act of non-thinking, of believing something simply because they were told it was true, because their parents and their grandparents and so on believed it. This is a very dangerous intellectual precedent.

  • Hitchens is like a library when it comes to these debates ! Its amazing that after seeing some of his older work any of these pedo priests , rabbies or the like even dare go head to head with him. lol

  • Let's just say put it plainly: Rosen baum is a lil bitch

  • Hi. I believe in God and chirst. Therefore I disagree with this shit. Infact the sound is not working on my PC right now so I cannot hear what he is saying. But I gather by the comments that he is slagging god. But I am also a pragmatist, a Sophist and not a litteralist. Therefor I believe the truth of the bible needs to be sought from behind some of the most obvious meanings of the stories, and it shouldn't all be taken at face value. Thanks.

  • @ninjaboj You should start by actually listening to what he has to say.

  • @ninjaboj hey, i haven't read your comment at all but i disagree with your shit.

  • Christopher is 101% right. Religion is toxic.

  • And that's another victory for Christopher Hitchens and logical reasoning.

  • I remember when my mother told me the story of Abraham I was freaked out so bad. I was around 8 years old and just couldn't get why a parent would do that. I asked my mother (a devout Mormon) was not able to give me a straight answer if she would do the same thing. Just "You'd be with Jesus in heaven" all I could think was; "But I want to be alive, here. Why would a god do that?" Then the whole god just testing ol' Abe was the icing on the fucked-up cake.

  • Calling something radical only makes you look pathetic. Radical Islam is true Islam. A radical Christian is one who takes that crap seriously. As radical is from the latin (radicus, for "root"), then anything radical is only a purer or more energetic version of itself. So if something is not radical, then it barely exists in recognizable form or is so polluted it isn't worth debating. In any case, religion is for asswipes, and I hate greasy longhairs who went to community college.

  • jesus christ he could had answered the question "there are a lot of people who don't take the book literally" he should have answered it simple "it only takes one man who misunderstood the book, to kill 2500 good people"

  • WIN

  • *ahem*

    OWNED.

  • thane rosenbaum is a greaseball.

  • Questions for theist. Religion has claimed science tries to pull ppl from god, only to accept its results later. Religion has also used science to back its claims. So isn't science useful. Why not let scientists work and accept the results? Are theist afraid they will be let down by religion? Differentiate religion from god, and, science cant prove/disprove any gods existence. Religion--- wont disprove and cant prove any gods existence. So why cant the two get along? Please respond.

  • Thanks for hosting this vid, the Hitch in fine form there.

Have you seen his and stephen Fry's "debate" about whether or not the catholic church is a force for good in the world?

Their opposition is Archbishop John Onaiyekan and Anne Widdecombe MP, I almost felt sorry for the pro-catholic side.

  • The Hitchenator RULES!

  • Plague is a very good description of religion!

  • It's an analogy not a description.

  • I stand corrected!

    It is indeed an analogy.

  • brilliant

  • He ends with a poor metaphor. Innoculation, in otherwords vaccination is in a way a gentle version of the infectious agent. Usually a heat or chemically attentuated version.

I agree most of the rest of what he says though.

  • Hehe, good point.

  • I'm sorry, "inoculation" and "vaccination" are not synonymous. While "vaccination" always describes an inoculation, "inoculation" does not alway describe a vaccination.

Google define:inoculation to see the various definitions. One of these definitions is a literary definition to "introduce an idea or attitude into the mind of..."

  • They are medically synonymous.

  • Hitchens at his best here, at least as far as I've seen. This IS an unfortunate problem - that even moderate religious people hold in reverence the very same religious texts that the fundamentalists and extremists do; what is to prevent the son or daughter of a moderately religious family, after being taught the virtue of faith, to pick up a copy of the holy text in question, and draw from it the easier, simpler, literal interpretation without the cherry picking and complex apologetics that a...

  • ...more moderate religious belief is founded on? What can the parents say to such a child, when they themselves have most probably never read their holy texts, and aren't well versed in the theology of their brand of belief?

The child will conclude his parents simply haven't paid attention to the word of the true God, and go off to join the ranks of the extremists.

This is the problem with teaching that faith, rather than skepticism, is a virtue.

  • Religion is not based on any form of reason whatsoever. It will be a wonderful day when we dont have to waste our time humoring religious ideas and start having intelligent conversations about things that matter.

  • Oh Hitch is feckin' brilliant sometimes.

  • IT'S INCONCEIVABLE, BUT THERE ARE MORE STARS IN THE UNIVERSE THAN THERE ARE GRAINS OF SAND ON THE PLANET EARTH!

The religious cannot have an honest debate about the origins of life because belief in God is not based in rationality.

This is the 21st century and it's becoming more and more evident every day that the nature of existence bears no similarity to what was described in the Bible or Quran.

It's time to put away your childish notions and stop being proud of your ignorance.

  • What arrogance, what ego the religious have in thinking that the Universe exists for the self aware life form on this speck of stardust!

There is as much EVIDENCE for the existence of God in the Bible as there is in the National enquirer!

What fools the religious are. Do you not realize that we have but one life to live and when we die we are gone forever!

    DEAL WITH IT!

  • @BrightlyEvolving,

Anton LeVay said something similiar to what you said.

"Life the great indulgence, Death the great abstinence!"

  • @BrightlyEvolving

It's an arrogant thing to tout your belief that when we die we're gone forever as fact.

  • Hitch has certainly got mojo. Referencing Monty Python and Albert camus in the same breath! Cheesemakers...LOL

  • I could listen to Hitchens all day. His command of the English language is second to none. It's a shame he doesn't write fiction. I would enjoy reading such works.

Hitchens is a junk yard dog. I bet he has a wallet with BMF stitched into it.

  • I contest that Dawkin's has a masteful command over the english language and that after a day of using it the english language is actually relieved when Dawkins rests his head at night, it is tiring to be someones bitch all day after all :).

  • lol

  • Judeo-Christianity pwned!!! Go Hitchens.

  • LMAO...this man has forgotten more than you`ll ever know....beats the hell out of your idiot heros...Alan Keyes and Mr total loack of credibility Joseph McCarthy....PUTZ!

  • Five hundred years from now when Christ and Muhammad and other prophets of ignorance have passed into obscurity Charles Darwin will still be hailed as the man who set us on the path towards the real God....... TRUTH

Christ walked on water but we have walked on the moon, Christ turned water into wine but we have taken the heart from one person and transplanted it to another. The real God is Greater than we have yet imagined!

All it takes is COURAGE to understand we control our own destiny.

  • The problem for religion is that the limit on knowledge is derived from one book, the bible which was written by several men, even more unnerving, the Koran was written by one man, Muhammad.

Science, based on the knowledge gained from thousands upon thousands of books written by thousands upon thousands of people through rational observation and experiment. Darwins survival of the fittest is not for the strongest or most intelligent but for those that are best able to adapt to change.

  • Beware the man of one book.

    St. Thomas Aquinas

  • That is beyond excellent.

  • You are just pissed he clowned your brand of sky daddy.

  • When will people stop using this tautology in the discourse? The argument negates itself.

  • I agree with your logic here. If there is a creator that knows everything, we may never be able to wrap our brains around his creation.

However, if he is that knowing, why would he leave us with only one man-written book to follow his faith by? The creator might not be evil, but the religion that follows it certainly is.

  • You are on the same sideof the argument with God! Count yourself with good company.

God also hates 'religion". He only seeks a personal relationship with us, not a religious, ritualistic following by the masses. People have ruined Christianity, not God. If people would follow what God has commanded, there would be no problems. But people have free will, otherwise we'd be robots. god wants us to love him on our own, by faith, not follow a religion because some guy in a funny hat says so.

  • Doesnt the bible say to stone homosexuals? Yes Doesnt the bible often advocate human sacrifice? Yes RE Judges 11 xtians Stone witches? Check Kill non believers? Check Be cursed by God to literally eat your first born? Check RE Duet 28:57-58 Infinite punishment for finite sin? CHECK CHECK
  • Wait wait wait "God of the old testament"?

Im pretty sure they are the same God the same God who is perfectly willing to accept Jepaths only daughter as a human sacrifice.

I really could go on and on but, I just suggest typing "What would Jesus NOT do" into your search box...that is if you are an open minded and fair individual

  • Lol "Whos Jepath" read you Bile please

The second part well lets see I dont believe in sin because I do not believe in your sky daddy sorry.

This is the best part his "Miracles"? What miracles? Turning water into wine?Walking on water?

Why not tell the human race something useful morally or scientifically for that matter how about saying something like "Do not subject your fellow man into a life of servitude, free your slaves for they are the children of God" cont....

  • "He is who he said he was...."

Yea because he was the only savior deity around at that time ignore Ra, Mythras, Krishna and all the others who bear a striking similarity.

You didnt watch the video did you?

    "What would Jesus NOT do"

^type it in unless you are scared and would rather cleave to bronze age superstitions

  • God is not here to fix all the problems of the world. The problems of the world have been caused by mans choice to rebel against God. Why should God go around and pick up our mess? He provides the solution to our problems and provides us a way out of the troubles of this life, but you need to believe on him and read his word, and have faith that he will respond.

Jesus did not take advanatge of His high place but humbled Himself as a servant. He lived a sinless life so he could be a sacrifice

  • haha something that also gets to me.

  • here, here..... five star video

  • I have never seen a more appropriate title for a video.

    Hitchens FTW

  • quite a cynic ... but does make sense.

  • Ive been watching Hitchens for a while now and what worries me is who is the next Htichens?..I bet most religious folk cant wait for this guy to die because there's nobody else who can expose religion in the way he does..Well maybe there is but ive yet to see one...George Carlin and Bill Hicks are no longer here..We need more of them.

  • I know I'll get hammered for this, but Bill Hicks was no friend to skeptics; he was a drug-addled New Ager who believed in no end of mystical bullshit.

The same is true of Bill Maher. Yeah, he attacks religion, but he also believes in ghosts, psychics (including John Edward), ESP, crystals, and claims western scientific medicine is a sham and promotes idiotic "alternative medicine." On medicine, honestly, Maher sounds exactly Kevin Trudeau; "You don't need drugs & surgery, try homeopathy!"

  • Why would i hammer you? , you didnt insult me you just gave an opinion so thats cool..If Bill Mayer believes in ghosts then he also has to believe in an intelligent designer because there's no way humans could have evolved a soul that survives after death..To me , that just seems ridiculous..So if ever i saw a ghost , id be inclined to believe in an after life..To believe in an after life, then id also have to believe in a God..Nevertheless in 41 years im yet to see a God or a Ghost.

  • When making claims that serious about another person's beliefs, you need to be able to cite a credible source.

Never have I ever heard Bill Maher say anything of the sort, nor have I read of any such statements.

I'm calling bullshit here and I'm sticking by that claim until you come forth with credible evidence corroborating your statements.

  • Okay, google various combos of "Bill Maher" "John Edward" "Larry King" "Alternative Medicine" "psychics" and "ghosts". Should be the first results that pop-up

I believe there's a collection of quotes at the James Randi forum, but the google searches are all you need.

  • if he goes i'll step up, fuck it, lets all step up to the plate. lets start writing books!

  • That man is just so spot on! And the audience, obviously American as they were so luke warm to the self obvious truths he is speaking.

  • "Obviously American"?

Ever hear him speak in the UK? Half the time the Galloway-loving audience is ready to stone him.

P.S.- Hitch is an American now, and quite proud of it. So shut your piehole.

  • I have heard him speak in the UK by recording only, however, he was well received when making similiar anti-religious statements.

The Galloway lovers are a small group clositered in welfare state ghettos, mainly muslums and yes you are quite right, they would love to stone Hitchens. They do not represent the vast majority of the British people though.

This audience is obviously American because he does not get warm applause to his salient points because America is SO religious and blinded by it.

  • shashintokyo. Hitch is a Marxist, very much a supporter of the welfare state. He was for the war precisely to keep it focused on religion and right wing dictators, he carried the moral argument to the nuts; To be a voice in opposition to the crazies. the real problem is the right wing fudge called multiculturalism, it puts communities inside communities, this is them amplified by private (religious) schools. We need integration, state education and to break up the religious Mafias.

  • Hitchens is indeed an American citizen now, what relevance does that have to the point I was making?

I will not shut my "piehole" but neither will I resort to aggresion to express myself in response to you.

  • galloway is a bit of a joke, and to be fair, i am of the opinion hitchens can make a greater difference in america than uk.

  • i'm glad we got him.

  • Jizz in my pants. Every time Christopher Hitchens speaks.

  • Hitchens wins because logic and reason beat religion every time.

  • A point I never realized until now -- thanks for the post!

    BAMF indeed.

Going to look more into this

  • Hitchens is one badass motherfucker.

  • damn. just a question....is there video of hitchens actually losing a debate? he cant possibly smash them all

  • I think there are debates where it could be said he "lost", or at least didn't really win, but he doesn't allow it to happen, he has so many tactics. There is one I remember where he really digresses and doesn't address the points, acts bored and unconcerned, and gets really wordy. It unsettles the opponent, and he still comes off looking victorious. He is just too good at this stuff.

  • Well said.

  • He had one one Conservativism with Dinesh D'Souza were he was down for a second in my book (not the one at King's College on god, where he destroyed Dinesh).

Still, the guy says everything so well. It's very impressive.

  • Dinesh D'Souza. If you break down what he says in his debates, 90% of it is humor and snide remarks, not actual evidence of anything.

  • Dinesh is 90% bs or hitchens?

D'Souza is probably the best for sure. He seems to do fine until God is brought into the picture, and I feel this is the problem with the whole argument. It is truly a leap in logic, and this is where the religions fail consistently. Anyone can give an answer, but only a few can show the work. In effect they use reasoning, only to throw it away. At which point they fall back on 'faith'. Lazy and dishonest.

  • I would rather think that Hitchens is the better. Dinesh's tactics, on all debates I've seen, rely on attacking the others position whilst not actually solidifying his own. That said, he is a man of great vocabulary.

  • Dinesh is incredibly literate and intelligent for sure. Hitchens is just as verbally and mentally sharp but he has one thing on Dinesh: a pitiless sense of humor. He can make the crowd laugh and that's key. If the crowd laughs when Hitchens reveals something unreasonable or ironic about religions and gods it means they see the absurdities too. It's a great tactic.

  • I would say that although Dinesh can make some thought provoking commentary, he still falls behind in comparison to Hitchens intellect. There is no comparison.

  • I find Dinesh's style objectionable. It comes across as practiced, trained and insincere, even down to the pitch and pace he puts into the tone of his voice at certain parts of his arguments. Crescendos, rhetorical questions, circular reasoning, all frustrate me so much that often I have to turn down the volume when I am trying to listen to him. Reminds me of an evangelical.

  • I agree. It is much more exciting to watch debaters who speak more loosely and freely. Dinesh is very eloquent but he lacks the intensity and the humor that debaters like Hitchens use to gain the audience's favor.

  • audience members won over by humor and personality rather than the actual information are dupes, who cares what they think?

and if you want a wonderful example of hitchen's abililty to charm the audience, watch him on Bill Maher! He literally flips off the audience and screams at them.

  • What I'm saying is that he uses humor to add to his arguments. Like whenever he talks about circumcision or the sacrifice of Abraham in the video. When people laugh at what he says about religion, it means that they see the absurdity too. And as for the Bill Maher round table, that wasn't exactly a formal debate. I'm talking about straight up forums and whatnot.

  • Well yeah, he's kind of a huge dick.

  • There is no god and Hitchens is His prophet

  • lol

  • Thank God (paradoxically) for a man with the intellectual strength and courage to say the things that need to be said in the increasingly narrowing 'politically correct' fascistic establishment ruled world in which we find ourselves.

  • Praise Hitchens!

  • I love you Christopher Hitchens.

  • Christopher Hitchens should get B.A.M.F. tattooed on his forehead.

  • I like his measured pathos. I find it much better than, say, the arrogant geeks in the "Rational Response Squad".

  • Those nerds are super fucking annoying.

    Well said.

  • hitchens has mentioned spinoza before.., and transcendence.., i wonder what he has to say of that sepcifically..,

  • Sam Harris is best to consult on issues of transcendence. He talks about a kind of secular mysticism. I don't subscribe, but its very interesting.

  • How does he get to be so eloquent? whenever I try to express my thoughts it never quite sounds this convincing :( He is brilliant. Whether you agree with him or not.

  • Brilliant

  • haha, what a BAMF

  • is that barry manilow on the left ?

  • The likeness is striking but what comes out of his mouth is far more offensive than Barry's unbearable tones.

  • Hitchens is just flawlessly eloquent in his arguments and debate style! It is a beautiful thing, the human mind and he scored a good one!

  • pure genius

  • I love how everyone is rubbing their chins at the cutoff - undoubtedly due to the fact they're completely aware that they've just been fucked in the ass by Hitchen's intellect. Bend over you god loving fucks

  • yes, I liked that moment too. a lifetime of 'certainty' for every believing member in the audience just went up in smoke.

Do you know where this was filmed?

  • Hitchens said all that needs to be said...but people blinded by "faith" just don't hear clearly.

  • No they hear it perfectly clear, they just are so indoctrinated they dont believe it.

  • Reason will always trump religious mysticism, at least in a civilized debate.

  • Hitchens is an arrogant pig!

Thank God for Atheists, it keeps us talking about Him! If it wasn't for Atheists there may not as much "God talk"! Keep it up Atheists! God bless you all!

Psalm 14:1 The fool has said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, They have done abominable work, There is none who does good.

Jesus is returning! Are you ready?

  • ahh its funny when religious people call atheists fools

  • You are a fool!

  • and your basing that on?

  • Your spelling and grammar for a start "your basing"

    Fool!

  • omg my spelling and grammar is shit there must be a god!

  • What do you believe in? The FSM?

  • exactly

  • So you have a belief? Are you an atheist?

  • how can anyone be an atheist, they would have to deny the great power of the FSM

  • Case in point, FOOL!

  • lol my spelling and grammar may be shit but your an actual retard

  • Thanks! Do you read the Bible?

  • no i dont like fairy tales

  • How do you know it is a fairy tale? Did you work it out for yourself or did someone tell you?

  • theres no evidence for the jebus story which means theres no good reason to believe it

  • Our Lord Jesus is real and secular history also reveals that too. Did you know that?

  • instead of telling me it did why dont you tell me how it did?

  • Google "Jesus in secular history"

  • testimony is the lowest form of evidence do you have any real evidence?

  • about 2 billion christians world wide and 4 billion non christians the non christians win

  • Yes, "the chosen few"!

What do think of recent Bible prophecies being fullfilled?

  • "the chosen few"

lol more like the gullible few

and which recent bible prophecies would these be and where in the bible did they say they would happen

  • Verchip666, NWO, One world religion, increased earthquakes, you should check out HAARP!

  • whats HAARP and where in the bible did it say any of this

  • im done arguing for today i might check it out and respond some other day

  • OK! God bless you!

  • It's all bullshit, I can dismiss it off hand due to the fact that you mentioned the NWO in your comment.

  • Everybody thought the earth was flat, that didn't prove anything.

  • no they didn't, not the ancient greeks, no middle age scholars, no one its a myth not even columbus did.

  • Yeah and millions of people listen to Brittney spears but that doesn't mean she makes good music.

    BAM!

    Opinion.

No facts at all, anywhere, ever, just the bible. (which is mostly a story, and is painfully obvious that it is not to be taken literally.)

  • Oh man the more I hear people talk about religion the more I despise it to it's bitter core.

Religion is so arrogant and ignorant to my feelings it just makes me sick inside. Thank goodness I belie in myself and my own morals and judgments, for I would be LOST without them.

  • "Again not addressing my criticism. Why are you so eager to change the subject?"

Don't flatter yourself by thinking that I'm actually paying close attention to whatever retarded point you are trying to make. You are just being a concern troll.

  • Spot on, Christopher H. I live in a mixed inner city neighbourhood in the UK. All our local schools serve halal meat as standard. Islamic requirements and sensibilities are imposed on non Muslims without their consent. Sharia law and finance are accommodated. More and more Muslim women wear the niqab.

This is all being caried out by what many liberals would call 'moderate' Muslims. It is really stealth jihad, and people need to WISE UP to what's happening, before it's too late.

  • I'm oppressed by having to eat Kosher hot dogs. Oh, the humanity!

  • How does it hurt you if two parties want to enter into a contract that is compliant with Islamic finance? As far as I can tell, an "Islamic mortgage" is basically a rent-to-own scheme with a balloon payment at the end to allow people to think that they aren't paying interest when it's basically built into the contract. All sorts of standard financial instruments like futures and options contracts would also be compliant as far as I can tell. Interest: it's in there!

  • I agree with Christopher H. with the Abraham thing. i mean, how sick do you have to be to ask a man to kill his son? Only a sick bastard would demand something like that. Sure it was just to test mr A but what if no one stopped him? He would have killed his son.

Shows just how sick religion is and even how sicker a follower can be.

  • It was never God's intent for Abraham to sacrifice his son, Isaac. God only wanted to test his loyalty, and once he saw that Abraham was going to do it (despite the fact that Abraham loved his son very much and really didn't want to kill him), God provided a way out for Abraham by sending a goat to sacrifice instead.

Trust me when I say that not all religion is as sick as you think it is. I don't see why everyone hates Christians/religion so much.

  • It doesn't matter. Just to come up with such a demand is very sick. I don't see anything beautiful in this story at all. Abraham acted like a fucking maniac and just shows wich kind of loyaly God really demands from his followers. Even if his son didn't got killed, i for sure get the message;

You should be prepared to do anything for god, even if it means killing your family.

And i'm sure that Abraham laughed when he heard it was a joke. God, Abraham and the angel all ROFL'ed afterwards.

  • It's a fairy tale to begin with, right?

  • Well most probably. Since there are no angels and no god (at least not one like in the bible) the most logical thing would be that it's false. Maybe Gabriel heard voices and was delusional?

  • How do you feel about the US military having dry runs for nuclear attacks that potentially could kill hundreds of millions of people?

  • I'm sorry, i didn't understand. You mean what i think about them producing the nukes?

  • They have people do dry runs of a nuclear attack on a regular basis just like God supposedly had Abraham prepare to sacrifice his son.

  • What is a dry run :S

Do you mean that they let people test nukes or what?

  • The god that you are talking about is a bastard. Think about what you're saying.
