subhaanallah! I was there, this is a Cuban-American man, there was even a priest there on the side taking notes. Wow, I didn't remember there being someone taking video. I'm the guy in the white/light blue shirt, dark kufi w beard in front of the guy who lined up to give salaams who had a ponytail (left in vid)--he's PR like me and embraced Islam that same year after a speech by Yusuf Estes at Madinah Masjid on 11th Street, 1st Ave in Manhattan.
i dont understand or have ever heard in the shahada that Jesus is mention we acknowledge that he Jesus (pbuh) is a prophet and messenger od God but i never heard it in shadada as such can someone enlighten me to this addition is it a latino thing to do this cause of sme insecure fear from their previous christian life that they do this these latino muslims????
Well, all previous prophets are revered in Islam, since Adam all the way up until Muhammad. Muhammad is the only one mentioned in the shahadah because at that time people needed to believe that Muhammad was a prophet of God and that his message came from Him. So by accepting the message people were acknowledging that Muhammad was a prophet of God. That doesn't mean they deny Jesus or Moses, people accepted this new prophet with a reaffirming message from previous prophets.
Salam, Allah's rasool s.a.w.s used to add that part of the shahada whenever a christian would convert because many christians believed and still do believe that Jesus was god or the son of god, therefore he would ask them to bear witness to Jesus being only a prophet and a servant of God, hope that answer suffices for whoever reads this, peace be upon all the prophets, and As-salam wa alaykum to all my brothers and sisters in Islam.
When a Christian decides to embrace Islam, the imam will include the recognition of Christ (peace be upon) as a messenger of Allah--this is stress the point that in Islam all of the prophets are seen as servants of Allah. This also assures the Christian convert of the Islam's respect for Christ (peace be upon him)
