In a sort of way, you could say that's almost what happened. As the plane and building began to respectively shred each other, the air would've continued to move with the same speed the plane itself was moving upon the time of impact.  That's all I got though cause I'm not an expert. Just putting together all the data I've acquired.

I think your thinking of the Challenger disaster. yeah that one did have the crew compartment survive. The Columbia broke up during renetry, much worse stresses than the explosion. But yeah even with Challenger blowing up, plenty of pieces were found as well.
