china was never fully occupied by the japanese only because of the country being that big and having such a huge population. but parts of the country had been occupied for years until the might of the Japanese Imperial forces was broken by the Americans.

America supported the Chinese nationalists in their struggle against the occupation for years (with weapons and they even sent war planes plus pilots and whatnot to fight the Japanese in China) but it was loosing the Pacific war against the USA that let directly and decisively to the liberation of China and not the efforts of the Chinese themselves.
