  • For those who want his Oscars performance, it can be found on the official Oscars page for the 44th Oscars (can't seem to link it here)

  • Does any one know where to get a copy of the PERFORMANCE? Isaac Hayes performed that piece with the gold and the lights and it was great. I would even be willing to buy it as a separate thing. It's just something I've wanted for a while.

  • At first I thought, "Jeez Joel, bowtie big enough?!" Than I get a load of Hayes' tux! All he needed was 8 inch heels with goldfish swimming in them!

  • you look like Georges W Bush :o)

  • Chef won a fucking Oscar.

  • lol that tie

  • My Dad Ernest Tidyman wrote the sceenplay for Shaft. Recently I emailed the Academy of Motion Pictures and they released some video of his acceptance for best adapted screenplay for The French Connection. I would love to see Isaac Hayes' performance at the awards the same year. I'll ask them if they would please release the video. R.I.P. Isaac

  • @nicktidyman Even though I haven't seen it in 40 yers (since my early teens), I have a vivid memory of that performance and would love to see it again. I remember it as an opulently-staged production, infinitely more lavish and spectacular than any rendition currently available on YouTube, and I think that visitors to this site would marvel at it. In fact, I'd go so far as to say that I, for one, would be willing to pay to own it on DVD...and I suspect that many others would, as well.

  • @IntelProperty yes I was looking for the performance he did, I also still have a vivid memory of it....some one has to have it

  • I've read that Isaac actually presented the award to his grandmother, Mrs. Rushia Wade, on stage at the ceremony. Is there another clip that shows this?

  • Even Chef can win an Oscar than Edward or Jacob

  • Kanye West has nothin' on this cat.

Isaac Hayes may be dead, but he lives on...Rick Ross

  • @iwasanangryyoungman your sick lol

  • @iwasanangryyoungman really really bad comparison!!

  • Who is that saying "Yeah, I told you" as Isaac Hayes is making his way to the stage?

  • @KristianKronicles really really bad comparison!

  • RIP what a beautiful man.

  • Its a good thing that Issac Hayes won because all those other songs suuuuuuck

  • What was it about the 70's in that the music was so great but the fashions and style

    were a disaster?

  • Very cool to see that.

  • only good thing about that movie lol

  • It's wonderful to see his acceptance speech, but what would be an ever greater treat would be to see his performance of the song that night at the ceremony -- It was absolutely dazzling. Does anyone have it? If so, then by all means, please upload it.

  • right when the theme starts up and i see the dude running down the stage in that amazing suit, i can only think to myself "daaaaaaaaaaamn right".

  • right when the theme starts up and i see the dude running down the stage, i can only think to myself "daaaaaaaaaaamn right".

  • Holy shit, a fucking Oscar for your birthday...

  • It would be very cool to see the segment where Isaac Hayes sang Shaft at the Oscars. I remember he was wearing a lot of gold necklaces, then came up from the floor in a fog. I could be wrong, though I'd love to see it.

  • Lol, it looked like they put the poor brother all the way back in the bathroom. Almost didnt even finish the song running so long lol

  • ISAAC B PIMPIN'!

  • Best Tuxedo EVER.

  • can you dig it?

  • He was a bad motherfucker

  • He looks like a pimp! Badass!

  • Donating the Oscar for your Grandmother that is REAL class

  • Damn, where they have come from the back of the kitchen? Dude should of have at least had a seat...

  • Holy crap what is Isaac wearing?! o.O Oh the seventies lol

  • that is incredibly badass. Isaac Hayes. a true soul brotha

  • Who cares what the losers for that year wrote? The only thing that mattered on that day in that year at that moment Issac Hayes won.

  • Come to think of it, Isaac Hayes was the first man to make BALD fashionable (not Michael Jordan). Hayes always went against the grain and tried new things. He was the first African-American composer to win an Oscar against the heavyweights of his day and that's saying a lot. You can hear (barely) Sammy Davis Jr. screaming in the background.

  • oh heeeellllllllllllllllll yeeeaaaaaaaaaaa

  • My main man Isaac Hayes love ya Isaac R.I.P

  • RIP Chef

  • Shaft > Chef

  • what the hell is Mr Hayes wearing? Is that a velvet Puma jumper-tuxedo?

  • @cloeda thats a fur tuxedo.

  • If they would show the Isaac Hayes performance of Shaft at the Academy Awards. That was very memorable.

  • He ran his ass to get up there. Probly surprised he was gonna win thats why he was sitting n the back row! lol

And look at the brotha onstage as hes runnin up, hes like "Finally goddamnit!!" lol

  • classy as always

  • Chef 4 Life <3

  • Rest in peace, Chef.

  • RIP Issac Hayes!!!!

  • Hey My Man Hayes...nice outfit and fuckin´ Coooool . Hell yeeeeah ! ! !

  • wtf the fuckin bastards put him sit in the last row...look from where he was runnin...

  • True- yet WTF was he wearing> This is what happens when fur goes bad

  • The 70s were one hell of a decade for Oscar fashions.

  • lmnfaooo in the 70s people used to run to get their awards

  • "and now, the nominees: 4 white guys who wrote crap you never heard of, and Isaac Hayes with the theme from Shaft."

  • Please save the negative comments for your personal life. thanks

  • @hmcnally

Richard M. Sherman and Robert B. Sherman (You're Sixteen - Ringo), Henry Mancini (Peter Gunn - Art of Noise), and Marvin Hamlisch (The Way We Were - Barbra Streisand) wrote more songs for more shows, stage and movies, that they each probably made four times the money Issac Hayes ever saw.

You need to research these names, if lived through the Sixties and Seventies you would know their names.

  • @hmcnally

    What himself801 said.

The Sherman Brothers wrote all the music for Mary Poppins, the Jungle Book and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

Marvin Hamlisch wrote A Chorus Line, The Spy Who Loved Me and The Sting

Henry Mancini wrote Moon River, the theme from Love Story and the Pink Panther Theme.

    Ignorance!

  • @bagot6 considering all that old school white talent, it makes hayes' win even more impressive.

  • @hmcnally I know you're just making a joke, but to be fair, Henry Mancini was a legendary composer. He wrote the Pink Panther theme and Peter Gunn theme, (you'd know it if you heard it), and the scores to over 100 movies and tv shows, was nominated for over 100 awards as well. The US Postal Service even put the guy on a stamp! Isaac Hayes ain't got one! I still think Hayes is the shit, but give the others credit too. If you watch much tv or movies, chances are you HAVE heard their work.

  • @hmcnally that's disrespect to art and is not cool. And BARRY DE VORZON????????? I JUST HEARD IT!! The Warriors you idiot!

  • @hmcnally "Bless the beast and the children" is a beautiful song with a perfect performance by Karen Carpenter. That said, They got it right.

  • @hmcnally i love isaac and hate to say it but mancini is a more influential film music composer at least. digging the plush bowtie by the way

  • @hmcnally

A well deserved victory for Isaac Hayes but, bloody hell, you don't know much about music, do you? You've never heard of Sherman, Mancini, Hamlisch et al? Dear, oh dear, a musical pygmy.

  • @tonyrome67 Amen!

  • @hmcnally Who cares wot color dey are, Man!

  • @hmcnally Popularity has nothing to do with quality.

  • @hmcnally Henry Mancini dude are you kidding me? the Pink Panther theme? rings a bell?

Isaac Hayes is a legend nevertheless and a well deserved oscar win

  • CHEF!

  • wtf is he wearing? lol

  • Well it was 1972

  • Hello Children!

  • Gotta love that large furry bow tie. They should put it in a museum. I want one.

  • In the this video Isaac displays something that the young brothers of today are in very DESPERATE need of, but that he always had in abundance, CLASS.

Though it was short, his speech was PURE CLASS!

  • Gotta love that large furry bow tie. They should put it in a museum. I want one.

  • @vidform that motherfucker deserves to be in the smithsonian!! lol right next to Edith and Archie Bunker's chairs XD

  • LOVE "Shaft"!

  • hahahaha it´s funny as hell when he start to run :D Isaac Hayes was the best!

  • Does anyone have the video of "Shaft" being performed at the Academy Awards?

  • @garypatton

its a crime that is not yet surfaced. i was a kid watching the tv at the time and barely remember. out of all the oscar moments on file, this should have been one of the first ones on youtube.

  • Go Chef!

  • R.I.P. Issac Hayes

  • Issac was so cool that instead of walking, he ran down the isle.

  • shut yo mouth!

  • Can you dig the tux Baby...

  • wow he was talking about prayers and then Scientology fucked him in th head

    P.S im an atheist

  • There is another phenomenal moment in this Oscar show involving Issac Hayes. Isaac is in a super bad musical production performing Shaft with a bevy of beautiful black and white dancers popping out of the stage and ceiling and him being rolled out on stage--bare chested with big chains covering his big muscular chest. Can someone upload it on Yotube? I would love to see it again.

  • that´s the waxtax concert

  • WOW I DIDNT KNOW HE WON AN OSCAR!

  • where are the new R & B bands

    the New Issac Hayes., Quiny Jones,Teddy Riley,Kool &the gang.Ohio Players,BT Express,Chic,Tower of Power,MFSB,War,EW&F,Slave,James Brown,Rufus,

The old bands have to play their old stuff no problem

Who to say it would be any good but can.t be any worser than what out here now

  • They had Isaac Hayes, Quincy Jones, Marvin Gaye and we get Soulja Boy. We got ripped off!

  • I was 11 years old watching this on TV. It was great to see my idol win an Oscar for Shaft.

  • it was the them from shaft

  • what a fuckin' pimp

  • Hello Children.

  • I'm gonna miss that voice on SP!!! He came to my city (Portland) a few months before he left this world! ='( RIP Mr. Hayes!

  • I was so proud of him that night. Anyone who is into black music and has never heard the soundtrack album of "Shaft", has truly missed out on perhaps one of the greatest album, from the 1970's or any decade, not to mention, that Issac Hayes was the only African American to win an Oscar in the 1970's. May God embrace his spirit, with His Love...Forever, and...a Day.

  • Soul Men is a great dedication for him! R.I.P Isaac Hayes...

  • Rest in Piece...for the second damn time Chef!

  • RIP mate good on ya.

  • yes he was hypocritical about one thing ,his religion, but then religion is all about hypocrisy. What gets me is that you had to use 'cunt',that speaks volumes about just how messed up you are as a person, get some help man,you need it,youre angry ,way too angry.

  • wait hes quoting the bible isnt he a scientologist?

  • my guess is that he converted sometime after this speech

  • I don't think he was a scientologist at the time.

  • Issac Hayes is coolness personified.

  • Isaac's THE MAN! Nothing like a bald, sexy brother with a deep voice-YUMMY :D

  • Y'DAAAAAMN RIGHT.

  • SHUT YO MOUTH

  • His outfil reflected the gaudiness of the 70's; it was fashion at the time. Isaac's score was incredible and cemented his genius. R.I.P., King Isaac.

  • R.I.P. Isaac Hayes...

  • you damn right....

  • RIP Chef

  • Yay Joel! I love you emcee! The very best!

    Hello there children! lmao.

  • get FUNKAY!

  • Who is the black panther mother fucker with the afro

  • what the hell is he wearing O_o

  • um...its the 70s

  • April, 10, 1972.

  • It was 1971. That was the beginning of pimping out in public.

  • I have no idea but I hope he only wore it once...

  • It would've been epic if South Park had already been airing and he opened up with "Hello there children"

  • Thank you children

    RIP
