  • asc Helga...is a dumb understanding of this movie.etc because all the comments just reflect stupidity

  • I always get chills at 4:09.

  • That awkward moment when Helga is just crawling around on stage (3:05)

  • 4:08-4;30 is the best. We watched this in my Film Studies class and I CONSTANTLY find myself singing this song.

  • Just an EPIC Musical!

Best Opening and End ever seen.

    This is an Masterpiece

  • Tonight we may lose the battle..

  • To see this show you got to be 16

  • I know right?!?!?

  • The beginning is so scary haha

  • gosh whenever i watch this i always think mila kunis looks like helga!

  • Is 1:15 a painting?

  • So, life is disappointing? Forget it!

  • My school did this as a school production and the girls playing sally bowles and the emcee (what it said in the programme) were absolutely AMAZING

  • 3:03 - 3:10 :D <3

  • The girls are a bit scary!

  • @manugra100 including the drag queens?

  • @manugra100 you know thats the point right?

  • @beautyandthehunk I don't understand why...

  • @manugra100 its supposed to be funny. those clubs were for people who could get away from the seriousness of war and nazism and have a laugh...

  • @beautyandthehunk Oh, I see. Thanks, I didn't understand...

  • I love the few seconds at the very beginning when you can see his own private smile, behind the scenes, behind the act - he really does enjoy this on a much deeper, personal level.

  • Existe t il une adaptation français du film ???

  • @valentine59400 Oui. Mais pour la trouver... Je crois que j'avais eu ma version sur emule (par contre les chants ne sont pas doublés)

  • That trill at 1:31... Oh my god, how am i going to play that.

  • 57 people are nazis

  • Genius

  • 57 guys that can't feel Cabaret...

  • This is probably the only instance where I prefer the movie version to the actual stage production. Joel Grey does a FANTASTIC job, and he is better then, well, anyone else, even Raul Esparza, who's version I love, but Joel Grey just wins.

  • @djsrob

In fact, thanks to this role, Joel Grey Won the Academy Award for Best Performance From an Actor in a Suporting Role in 1973.

    No Kidding

  • Every time I watch this scene, I just cannot get over the crotch sparkles.

  • @vampiregirl337 LOL i didn't even notice those til i read your comment

  • Timeless perfection.

  • Allen Coming was the bomb I liked his performance better.

  • @TheMrgoku1985

    Alan Cumming :)

  • What kind of band are you from? :))))

  • FOSSE + LIZA + GREY = JOY. XD

  • What an angry man :S

  • I miss Bob Fosse. RIP

  • Cabaret is my new addiction <3

  • im sorry but whats up with their crotches?

  • The Crew from "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" Said "We went out and Liza went in" because Cabaret was in the Same Studio in Germany.

  • Why does he speak German???

    I'm from Germany.

  • @DerGeisterbahnFreak

weil die handlung in deutschland spielt (:

  • @DerGeisterbahnFreak He speaks German because the film is set in Germany.

  • @DerGeisterbahnFreak it takes place in Germany in about 1930. ;] greetings ;]

  • I don't know why, but helga gives me a boner... big time

  • this guy's fuckin scary haha but he has a great stage presence.

  • Joel grey the best emcee of all time! second would be Allan Cummings

  • can't wait to see him in Anything Goes

  • GOING TO SEE JOEL GREY IN ANYTHING GOES :)

  • A beautiful musical, and very creepy at the same time. A very stark expression of the time in Germany at the time of the Wiemar republic. Great music, but very scary to think about, especially with how Mr. Fosse wrote this.

  • @ShadrachWTF Bob Fosse didn't write this.... he directed the movie and he staged the dancing. But he didn't write it.

With that said---I totally agree with you. I do love the starkness that Mr Fosse brings to the film.

  • best opening scene to any musical evar!

Joel Grey - brilliant, creepy, and beautiful.

  • best opening scene to any musical evar!

  • what painting is at 1:16 ??? if somebody know please tell me

  • 0:00 SCARY!!!!! o.O

  • He is ridiculously charming.

  • Just... such a genius.

  • Maravilloso !, Gracias !

  • der typ ist mir extrem seltsam...

  • am i the only one who thinks of genital warts when they see the gems on the cabaret girl's crotches?

  • go ahead, ASK HELGA!

  • Willkommen great song Joel Grey is the best the whole show of Cabaret is just the BEST.. It spoke from the past of a time we wish to forget but dare not.

    Andrew Cameron

  • @cameron2501

The republic of Weimar had it´s faults but it was quite nice too because of the Jazz Age. We DO NOT wish to forget the 1930s. No, No, No to coin a phrase.

  • I have sung this in music class. :)

  • I´m afraid of that guy ^^

  • 0:34 not amused....

  • Cabaret. MY LIFE.

  • Helgaaa.

  • Reminds me of "Master of the house" :3 <3

    "Les Miserables

    Cabaret

    Wicked"

That's pretty much my life in 4 words <3

  • @SuperKaitie333 Same! What awesome, awesome lives we have. :) :)

  • @danno700

    IKR <3?

  • 2 words: Tony & Oscar

Joel Grey owns this role. Alan Cumming didn't too a bad job in the revival, it's just this role belongs to Joel.

  • joel grey is amazing in this movie :)

  • Look at that creepy smile. How can you not adore Joel Grey? I love this musical for its intentional crudness and the club's cheapness. Today's musicals search for glamour and spectale and even musicals comtemporary of Cabaret search for spectale.

  • just did cabaret at the college theater. fun show

  • beautiful

  • Willkommen from 1972 film Cabaret sung by Joel Grey (born April 11, 1932).

  • @RedDracolich dude, your spelling is weak. joel is amazing.

  • @mahdodo Ooooh, made a simple spelling error. So because of that, I am not able to say how I feel about someone's singing?

  • @RedDracolich It sounds distorted through film screen. At this scene, there's no need for Joel Grey to project his voice. He's supposed to remain in character, not show off. Watch the his live Tony Awards and tell me he can't sing.

  • i love christina

  • why so many views? is he gay?

  • @pepsi89 well if he is the his daughter Jennifer Grey is in for a big surprise. There are this many views because it's a very good movie and this number is particularly good you doof.

  • he scares me

  • JOEL GREY!!

  • erinnert mich an burlesque

  • This guy is awesome!

  • The usher wears more make-up than Bozo

  • if anyone lives in melbourne Australia VIC there will be a musical in caberet @ the clocktower in around aug-sep 2011 in moone ponds

  • fantastic!!!....

  • We're doing this at my dance school.

Our dance is so awesome, and we are dressed up as waitresses.

God, I'm so excited for the performance.

  • I think I'm in love.

  • advertissement's music for thallys is the same

  • I loved the song but I didn't like that in one part of the song the screen was black (in the movie it isn't)

  • So an 18 year old do the MC performance last night in a school production... He was awesome, stole the show and didn't need the sleaze portrayed in this performance

  • @MrWmorrison1 I'm sorry but if it was without sleaze it was a poor, historically inaccurate performance. Please do some research on the Conferenciers of Weimar Republic cabaret.

  • @PuppetsNStuff errr no it had sleaze but not SLEAZE so it was an accurate and fantastic depiction of the story so stop being a high brow dick head

  • @MrWmorrison1 1.) Typing a word in capital letters does not change its meaning. 2.) Asking someone to do a bit of research, think critically and develop informed opinions is not "high-brow", it's common sense. 3.) In any case there's nothing especially wrong with being high-brow anyway.

  • he's a bit scary. i knows he's the host and a performer. total vaudville style. I love how the cabaret is reborn for today's generation in the new movie Burlesque.

this movie is rather muted and dark. where as Chicago and Burlesque is so Vibrant and colorful. Even wizard of oz was way more colorful. and that was the forties! i guess Direction for this film was to be muted tones?? I don't know. But.. Love them anyways. "NINE" was pretty awesome too! If you like these.. check it out!

  • I like a lot of every movies that you have mentioned, and I saw them. =) But in this movie you cant expect colour, hapinness, or "just for fun" entertainment. This is not a pretty story about people overcomming troubles, like in the other movies that you mentioned. Its about the decadence and the desperation of a crazy era that is about to end with the nazism. It's suposed to portray a dark, decadent atmosphere, with desesperation in the main role and with the devil (MC) leeading the masses.

  • @marisaelly just as i thought, i knew the director was going dark. just saying--- that i'm glad movies LIKE THIS---- have been Reborn for today's generation. That was pretty much what i meant, as well as giving some other good reccomendations.

  • @MrShaun42088 yes your right. Just its good to know that are people who realy apreciate movies like this. =)

  • Co za asy…

  • nice song

  • Kind of a cute song.

  • Ist das Film?

  • @panitaweelee - Ja

  • @Jamy0729 Danke

  • I'm going to boost this video's views to 1,000,000 in no time.

  • what does it all mean basil?

  • @frescoo it means i love you my homiiiiiiie

  • @likicatzj awwwwww yeaaahhh

  • Holy Crap freaking germans

  • apart from everyone's, and without any doubt especially joel grey's absolutely grand performance, it's amazing to see how this scene works out. very nice.

  • thumbs up if Cold Case brought you here

  • @Raap123 fail.

  • Helga looks like Drew Barrymore

  • AWESOME ^_^

  • The best part of Cabaret were the Joel Grey stage pieces. The story with Liza and York (though good actors) was dime novel material. You want a GREAT Bob Fosse movie rent Star 80.

  • Joel Grey is just astonishing (and frightening...) !

  • Those were the roaring twenties in Berlin!

Nowadays Berlin starts to re-enter into new roaring days...this time without the nazis!

So fellows...come the FATHERLAND...otherwise it comes to you!

  • I love this version of the song! Does anyone know where the song can be downloaded? I couldn't find it on iTunes! :0

  • when i saw this musical in vienna this summer i thought the conferencier was the horny heath ledger as joker

  • I used to have a HUGE crush on the sailor girl at 2:12

  • I love Cabaret! One of the best musicals ever! Liza and Joel are amazing entertainers. I always love the way my grandma used to talk about this musical when I was younger. It was really great when I got to watch it with her now that I am older.

  • Holy crap! It's a German Pee Wee Herman!!

  • @wombatmoose Haven't laughed for a while. Thanks! (:

  • @WormYourHonor64 Glad I could provide a laugh!

  • @CeltzKrieg I do teach New Age :)

  • paul rudd's snl sketch was better than this

  • i seriously watched this movie five times in a row... loveeee it!

  • Wouldn't all of you be so happy to see this in person?

  • Willkommen

    Bienvenue

    welcome

  • It is so smart that casting picked girls with some mileage on them rather than just the prettiest young things they could find. It make the movie much more authentic, but the movie is so great it will never be equaled as they do not make musicals anymore.

  • he's awesome!

  • Joel Gray defies description in this role.

  • @dean0waterz dream job so they have to get a retail or something equally boring, i know this FIRST HAND because i got psychosis and my dream job was to become a fireman! But then i got psychosis which has altered massive state of my life, adding another sad fable to my life. I know how harsh life can be and Celtzkrieg too. But not you, you haven't been "there" How can you even try to understand it when you haven't been "there"? Just fuck off man, you are ignorant and always will be.

  • @Learil Your argument is bullshit as you've never seen the movie you're taking a position on, and you wouldn't understand it if you had. That was obvious from your first comment which is why I've just been laughing at you, another one who holds you misfortune in front of you, letting it define your existence - just listen to yourself - plus you have no idea at all where I've "been". And YOU want to talk about "ignorant"? LOL...

Its clear you're a born loser. Get fucked you imbecile.

  • @dean0waterz

He doesn't have to have seen the movie, we are both responding to an incredibly ignorant comment YOU made about life, and we are both well qualified to comment on that and your idea about it. Especially as it does not accord with reality.

  • @CeltzKrieg really? i've seen it, so how the fuck are either of you to judge my comments ignorant if you don't know what i'm talking about?

that's called a logic failure...please don't tell me this is the way you conduct your day to day affairs because, as for "Life" - i don't think either of you is even qualified to find your way out your house in the morning based on this display tremendous of retardation; which is no longer shocking as i see your some kind of a neo-nazi fuck.

    just fuck off.

  • @dean0waterz

Already answered you, go back and read it, if you can comprehend English. Someone CAN comment on your comment about LIFE. Regardless whether they have seen the film or not. Your comment is independent of having seen the fim or not, really, you are not the brightest, no doubt that will really set you off, as your whole ego is caught up with intellectualism. News for you laddie, you are nothing of the sort, a mere pseudo pedestrian intellect.

As for fucking off,eh, how about, no.

  • @CeltzKrieg Can you guys just stop bickering and enjoy the song? This is a youtube comment section, not a political forum

  • @dean0waterz

And as for your eff this eff that

whatever happened to your 'lifes a caberet'. Sounds like your breaking more than a leg, lol. What's wrong, not enjoying this little cabaret? lol what a moron.

  • @Learil

Hey bud, I see you wanted to be a fireman. Well it seems you may be happy doing something that helps other ppl. I suggest that you find something even voluntary or part-time where you can be of service to other ppl or the community, I think if you cannot secure a full job of that description, you may be able to get some life satisfaction by incorporating it some other way, maybe even some role in teaching others in some capacity, thought about any of that?

  • @dean0waterz This has been another: ad hominem. Seriously, you just attack me but not my arguments, you just keep calling me and Celtzkrieg "fucking morons" and try winning an argument with ad hominem while me and Celtzkrieg telling you OUR ARGUMENT is that you don't know how harsh the reality can be, you might have had your ups and downs but that's NORMAL! There people who have been raped, scared for life, severe depression almost never laughing, people with psychosis who can't get their -

  • oh, that vein..

  • @dean0waterz obviously have lived and got things on a silverplatter. And you totally miss the point of what I and Celtzkrieg trying to tell you, which makes you the *ahem* "You being too much of a hopeless fucking imbecile to understand a single word what other human beings tries to convey to you" I hope a part of that sentence rings a bell

  • @Learil Blah, blah, blah; and, OH, right, yeah - you and the "other" idiot. The "other" idiot who sounds a lot like you and manages to comment at around the same time? That one? THAT "other" idiot?....[rolls eyes]....

Well, all you've "both" told me, is that "neither" of you actually have a point, and that you're "both" fucking clueless retards. So thanks.

  • @dean0waterz whatever you fucking grammar nazi and when was an ad hominem even a valid argument? Yea, nice going, shows your intellect.

Have i seen the movie? God damnit man the movie was made in 1972, you expect me to know that? I was born in 1990 how do you expect me to even know of this movie?

And might be better you just shut up and listen to what other people say who have actually lived a hard life, THEY understand that life is not like a "cabare" where life is fine and dandy like you-

  • @Learil Oh really, so you've never seen a movie made before you were born? How stupid would that make you? And that would be a pretty poor excuse for your stupidity and an even greater example of your idiocy than you realise, because it also communicates that you can't have a fucking clue what you're actually talking about....you don't actually know what this movie says. Thanks for proving me right the first time, you dumb fucker, LOL.

    Shut the fuck up.

  • Man, I wish there was a place like this club here in DC... I'd go every night!

  • @dean0waterz uhu? What about those who are BORN chronocially depressed? Do you know what that word means? Chronocially? It means they willl have that particual desease for the rest of their life, i'm sure as soon as they turn "strong" and "wise" will realise "Oh hey! Life is only a cabare!"

Or the ones who has been lonely for their entire life having no chance making friends because they simply don't know how. You watch TV way to much, snap out of it and stop being such a fucking ignorant

  • @Learil i know enough to spell it properly, you clown - never mind that your version of the definition is inaccurate.

And what do you think the message is in this movie?...Have you ever even seen it?

It might be best if you haven't seen it because, as you're obviously a hopeless fucking imbecile, it wasn't meant for you; which would be better than seeing it and being too much of a hopeless fucking imbecile to understand a single word, and just sing along to the catchy tunes - LOL, dumb fucker.

  • @Learil

Hear, hear, well said. Another person who has even at the very least a smidgeon of real life experience. As opposed to other more obnoxious ppl who seem not to have a clue about the world....sans nobilis.

  • @CeltzKrieg Schizophrenic loser, LOL.

  • annoying ass pedo lol

  • @bryantherandom Closeted ass troll.

  • @XiolaBleu1 not really. nice attemptat offending me ^^

  • HE'S SO SCARY!!!

  • Is that a technical fault at 3:25 or an edit?

  • Comment removed

  • the Kit Kat girls don't turn into zombies later, they are supposed to look like that to represent the downfall of Berlin during this time. that is what money is supposed to mean as well
