I've driven mine a couple hundred miles in the country and just doing 45mph... and I always average 39 mpg.. looks like a brick, but that small engine and cvt make it incredibly efficient. I still get there, I just pay a lot less to get there.
@imaNinjazz scions have been out since the 90s too sir. Do your reseach. Toyota BB is a Scion xB in the states. The Toyota BB is based off of the Toyota Vitz (yaris) the vitz was introduced in 1998. the cube was also introduced in 98 but had a completely different bodystyle. it wasn't even cubed! in 2000 thebB was produced...in a perfect cube then the nissan cube got its redisgn. Nissan copied toyota
LOOKS LIKE A SHOEBOX WITH WHEELS. I HAVE DRIVEN THIS THING AND CAN CONFIRM IT DRIVES LIKE A SHOEBOX ON WHEELS. NISSAN DEALERS WILL BE LEFT WITH THIS HIGH SIDED BOX. ALSO BE VERY CAREFUL NOT TO TAKE OUT ON A WINDY DAY AS I FOUND IT CHANGES DIRECTION ITSELF. ONE FOR MOTOBILITY SCHEME.
I like the cube. It's actually pretty cool looking for what it offer you. The good thing is with all these close-minded American-car-buyers, I doubt I'd ever have a problem with someone trying to steal it if I got one :P
I (27 yr old) purchased a 2009 Nissan Cube with the 6 speed manual transmission. I prefer more control over my vehicle, so I've never been a fan of automatic. My Dad (49 yrs old) loved my car so much that he purchased an automatic Cube of his own. His CVT runs smoothly and he gets better gas mileage then mine. I love my car. Its fun to drive and it has tons of cargo space. Plus it was much less expensive then similar cars on the road with the same options. Love it!

My focus wagon is bigger yet lighter than the cube, more powerful and thus faster, carries much MUCH more, looks better, handles better, and even gets as good or better mpg. Cars are advancing in the wrong direction these days, too much weight and it kills EVERYTHING. Plus I hate CVT's. I'll take my manual any day of the week.
Awesome review, thanks a ton! Its so different looking that it stands out, def a head turner. Glad to see all that beach stuff fit in the back as well without having to put the seats down.
yea its nice and all but the back window what were they thinking?. they should have just wrapped the whole back of the car in glass instead of the one side. atleast thats what I think anyway.
Just purchased Choc. Krom with everything on it and remote start for bad weather. How well do I like it, traded older Signature Town Car and more recent Cartier Town Car in on one Kron. Handles smoother and quieter than my Lincolns, first car I have ever bought that had no bugs in it upon delivery. I'm 71, haven't had this much fun in years. Too bad this wasn't available years ago. I abssolutely love this car!
Basically a city car: excellent city fuel economy with an automatic (manuals in stop-and-go become annoying fast), nimble, small size but very practical (boxy) shape. They're uniquely shaped for North America, but the shape is extremely common in Japan.
I wonder though, how was it on the highway? Meaning, with its weight, shape and engine, how was the wind noise? Was the car strongly affected by crosswinds? Did the engine feel overwhelmed at 70+ MPH?
The Cube was fine on the highway at speeds up to the low seventies. We didn't take it any higher then that. Crosswinds were not a factor on the day we did our highway testing ... but it wasn't windy.
@mpgomatic Hey Dan, I would just like to thank you for the wonderful reviews you do...And would this be a good first car for a sixteen year old (automatic)?
@TheMarlonsandifer Thanks for the kind words and support! The Cube is comfortable, easy to drive and has excellent visibility. It's probably best to ask your friends what they think of the Cube. Some will like it, some will not. The design provokes a strong response, one way or the other.
I have to say this is a cool little car. I'm not crazy about the back end though. I noticed that the cvt's when floored don't go right to red line. It sorta hovers around 5000 rpm's until you hit about 50 mph.
I have a recurring dream of turning the 6-speed base model into an ice cream truck. Haven't tested the Smart yet ... I was slated for a Euro diesel version last fall, but scheduling fell through.
It's kinda ugly...yet it made me smile, too. What I appreciate most about vehicles like this is and fun factor. The interior seems quite spacious; the reclining rear seat reflects creative thinking. Good fuel economy doesn't hurt! I predict we're going to see more and more cars like this in the future--not a bad idea at all.
One question: were you able to control the iPod from the head unit only, or are there redundant audio controls on the steering wheel for MP3 operation as well?

The Krom model is actually nice. 1 problem though! The back! I cant get over it. They need to redesign it to be symetrical and itll be just fine =)

I cracked up for a good ten minutes when it landed in the driveway. It takes a sense of humor to drive one of these critters, that's for sure.
The steering wheel controls allow you to cruise through iPod playlists.
One of the journalists that had this Cube before me must have swiped the owners manual ... I was a bit stuck trying to figure out the audio system.
