You should keep your patterns way tighter than that. You should be flying about half mile downwind LEGS. If the engine quit when you were out there on your 747 base LEG you would not have made the runway or the airport property for that matter.
You should try the Carenado 152. The JF 152 lacks "realistic" flying dynamics such as taking off in about half the distance it should. The interior, exterior, and sounds are better. Both are almost the same price.
One of the quietest touch downs I've ever seen. I didn't even hear the wheels touch. It's hard to tell with a sim but in real life I have a feeling that while that appeared to be a beautiful landing, right on centerline too, it may have been just a touch flat :P
Are you sure the TPA is 2000 feet MSL because your altimeter says 100 feet MSL for the aiport altitude. Your TPA should of been 1100 feet MSL because most traffic patterns are flown at 1000 AGL
Hey Cessna154, I want to let you know something. I went to Embry-Riddle a few weeks ago for an NJROTC seminar for science, technology, engineering, and math. We had a few basic flight classes while we were there. When we learned about traffic patterns, they shown this video to us. :)
Cessna I am having trouble finding a VOR in the commercial aircraft as well as the prop aircraft, I am requesting a vedio on VORs and how to fly a traffic pattern around those. THANK YOU
You're getting better at it 154, but you still lack airspeed control. You never use the flaps to "slow you down", flaps are used to let you pitch the airplane down without accelerating.
Use your PITCH to control your airspeed. Without learning the "reverse control" (or slow) flight, you'll never be able to control your airspeed properly.
Greetings from the University of North Dakota John Odegard School of Aerospace sciences!! Nice video, I look forward to flying a cute cessna 150 when I'm home. I've only really trained extensively in Piper Warriors.
Ok, im a pilot in real life i fly for thomas cook airlines, and just to say these videos are only for learning peroposes he's said that they might not be 100% right. Leave it alone hes done his best and he is probaly one of the best FSX flyers i know.
you never did the last chance checks on the runway before T/O, you never did the downwind checks, or told the tower you were downwind, and youre ment to add a notch of flaps on the base leg and start to slow down on the base leg not downwind, and your ment to slow the rpm to 1800 on base leg, otherwise okay knowledge of the circut but a vid of the full proper circut would be apriciated.
great video. I tried to fly such a pattern with the default 172 and it works great. But then I jumped into an A321 and have one problem. When I fly the downwind section I´m to far away to the airport to see where the runway is
Just as a Recommendation, On the Base Leg you should be approx. 1500 MSL and during takeoff ALWAYS Check that when you turn the acceleration knob to cutoff point that the engine doesnt cut out,
In the United States, it is very commonly taught that on downwind and nearing the 45 degree mark from the runway that a notch of laps and a slight descent is acceptable. Take a look around the net at student pilot websites.
Cessna is right, this is also the way ive learned to do traffic patterns and the Traffic Pattern altittude is not always 1000, it depends on each airport since they vary
@Cessna154 This is incorrect and very dangerous, do you know that helicopters fly their pattern at a lower altitude than fixed wing and sometimes farther out, a beginner pilot could easily descend too much and collide.
@jvandervalk reach level off before reaching 1000 feet? really? never heard of that one. not correct to use flaps or begin descent until on base leg? i put flaps on downwind, and begin descent when abeam the numbers on downwind. Maybe that's your personal way to fly, but u can't say that it is not good practice. Just because i don't fly like you doesn't mean it's incorrect
@jvandervalk That all depends on the airfield. Standard practice for the airfield I learned at was a pattern altitude of 900' MSL. Getting to that altitude before the downwind leg depended on temperature and humidity. On the downwind leg, when the aircraft was even with the runway numbers for the runway we were landing on, to pull power back to 1800 RPM and set the first 10* of flaps. After turning to base we would set the next 10* of flaps, and then on final we set the final 10* of flaps.
Yeah, I have considered those, but my channel isn't really geared towards teaching complex procedures like that. I haven't completely said no to it, though.
how do you fly straight when the camera is off center? because many times I dont move the camera as there is no way of returning it to center, because sometimes I fly crooked, and I notice it on landing as i sometimes vear around

THANK YOU CESSNA!! i was one of the many people who asked for this video, and i want to thank you for fulfilling that request! BTW happy 3 year operations!
Trim and flaps are done in the power check not before takeoff, strobes and alternator are done before take off. You don't put flaps down on downwind, you had two stages down when there should only be one going down. Speed on final should be around 70 knots. You should stop on the taxi way out of the runaway to take off flaps and unnecessary electronics. Yes it was 'basic', but you didn't do the most basic of things on circuits. Apart from that, flown well. 4/5.
For this aircraft, speed on final was within limits stated in checklist (I did check.) I consulted an expert based explanation of the Pattern and flaps down on downwind is acceptable (if fact, I have witnessed it first hand in a similar aircraft).
Wrong. I have been a certified pilot for many years, your just being a dick. Trim and flaps are done before take off, strobes and alternator are done in the power check. And wrong again, you should at least put one notch of flaps down on downwind before you turn final and commit. Speed on final is around 65 knots, and should touch down around 60. And your right about raising the flaps and turning off your landing/strobe lights, other then that your wrong, and being a cocky dick.
You have been a certified pilot for many years, your 20, so the maximum is 3 years which you would of got a PPL, that's not a lot. So every one of my instructors over the years ( five in total) Are all wrong? Don't be a lick ass please. On Base you deploy first stage of flap according to five instructors. Full flap and at 70 kts on final, so five instructors are wrong again? As I said before, maybe in American airfields the circuit procedures are different.
I just put that on my channel buddy, I'm 35, I've been flying since I was 11. So don't get smart kid. Your instructors are right, you are just plain stupid. Go back to school.
Sorry after power check which is in the same area you trim, flaps and around 23 things to do including, I was confused, but not just before take off. Transponder is on, but not on stb till before the runaway. Also, in an AA5, PA28 and a HR200, you all do the same thing, except In a HR200 the cruise speed is around 5 kts less. That's what is best. Mate, checklists don't lie. There designed to give the right information.
We? As in everyone? At my airfield with never do that. Ive been flying there for a while. (England) Obviously Americans do it a lot differently. 80 kt on base, no flap on downwind is what my instructors and I do.
i think the flaps really don't help much at takeoff cuz they slow down the aircraft and somewhat push it down rather then lift it up, its more necceseary for landing, at takeoff i like to hit as many knots as i can and taking off without the flaps. its a lot rougher n faster but thats just my personal preferance.
plus i do it on a sim, not reality (even though i want to)
Flap use on takeoff is determined by runway length, weather environment, or possibly weight. Flaps will reduce the stall speed of the aircraft allowing it to takeoff at a lower airspeed and thereby a shorter runway distance.
listen if you set flaps lets say 15 wings are making 15 percent lift more than without flaps. but they slow down airplane 10 percent. those are modern flaps. but older flaps which are used on dc3 and same aged aircraft are slowing aircraft more then making more lift
Where did you get the cessna 152?

what speed did you use?
NEVER2BAD 2 years ago
Vr (rotate) at 55KTS to maintain Vx, once at a safe altitude (say 300-400ft AGL) accelerate to Vy 65KTS.
Once you reach cruise speed relative to your aircraft's weight (usually very near to 90-100KTS), reduce power to about 2300RPM for cruise setting.
On landing, maintain 65KTS on the approach, just approaching. PITCH FOR SPEED, POWER FOR ALTITUDE.
Once approaching the threshold, reduce speed to idle.
The speeds in a nutshell, obviously carb heat where necessary etc.
Safe landings.

Thanks for the comment and watching. I am pleased with the final outcome of this video.
3 years sure went by fast... that is all I'm going to say!

I am going to guess that your comment was for ZachBeauvais?

Yes

ZachBeauvais: We deploy first notch of flaps before turning base.
mayokiconner 2 years ago

Flaps will reduce the stall speed of the aircraft allowing it to takeoff at a lower airspeed and thereby a shorter runway distance.
tf51d 2 years ago
listen if you set flaps lets say 15 wings are making 15 percent lift more than without flaps. but they slow down airplane 10 percent. those are modern flaps. but older flaps which are used on dc3 and same aged aircraft are slowing aircraft more then making more lift

Btw, trim, flaps, alternator are all done in the same thing, not power check. We usually put strobes on before take off on taxiway.

Good video, even though I knew nearly all of the things you said. oh, and, SMOOTH landing.

Yes, that landing was smooth. Thanks for watching!

There is a pre-defined setting that you can trim to.
