  • Johnnys a great guitar player. Uses a lot of pressure on the strings, stays in one area a lot which is fine. Not using Mr Lang as an example or comparison, but seeing the drummer reminds me of Stevie Ray Vaughen videos, and I'm always reminded how much Rythyme SRV had either strumming chords or lead. He left us too early. RIP SRV

  • @aaa567ify Stevie Ray Vaughn taught Johnny Lang and Kenny Wayne Sheapard how to play guitar- They were both students of his... Just sayin

  • @ernieluvsdarian Thanks for your response. I saw a couple of Johnny Lang video clips and was blown away by his performance and his vocals were well intense on some vids. Obviously he is not a kid any more, but anyway he can sure perform. Haven't heard of him in the past few years, so I come to utube. Sometimes I hear him on radio.

  • very nice performance. Love Jonny and miss Stevie, the one and only, soooo much.

  • Jonny Lang is the best!

  • ......SWEET!!!!!!!THANK U!!!!!!

  • Whatever! Canuk capo boy! Haha

  • Do you know who is that guitar player standing on the left? You can see him at 0:42. He does really great job!:)

  • If that's Gordie Johnson, why is he dressed like he should be in a European Techno Retard Band? Red turtle neck and leather pants?! Grady's alright, he must be friends with somebody to get up there.

  • @iamthedude4321 Gordie is a Canadian legend and he knows 'em all ;)

  • Johnny kickin it with Double Trouble. Stevie would be proud

  • Vraiment excellent !!!!!

    BigMama §:-)

  • Jonny if you go the burned out drug route and sport the spent out fame I'm gonna hang myself and strangle you! This mans music needs to be spread to the next generation.

  • he doesnt sound white. got that good voice!!

  • He always has the best telecasters... I dream of having the one he's playing in this

  • Wow

  • WOW this is awesome!!

  • @pf71019 He doesn't have to be drugged up to play like this. I've seen him since he turned his life around, and Lie to Me rocks just as much now as it did then.

  • Love it! I too miss Stevie Ray!!!

  • luv Double Trouble & Jonny Lang

miss Stevie Ray - he was the greatest -ALWAYS !

  • This is so fitting for him to be playing with Double Trouble. Jonny always reminded me of a young Stevie Ray.

  • Hallo! Ich habe dich in Luxenburg gesehen!!! Unvergesslich! Bitte komm wider!!!!! Hendrix-2!!!!!

  • Hallo! Ich habe dich in Luxenburg gesehen!!! Unvergesslich! Bitte komm wider!!!!!

    GREAT!

  • Is he the new Eric Clapton?

  • good to see tommy shannon and the boys still goin. stevie would be happy

  • so smooth

  • Jonny can really bring it!

  • Good God jonny lang is the man! Its easy when he starts soloing to see who the prodigy is on that stage. It takes a special talent to stand out on a stage full of classic blues musicians. I saw him live in new orleans at the hard rock cafe when he was 17 and first coming out with Lie To Me and have been a big fan ever since

  • Johnny Lang is awesome.

  • awesome

  • Goose bumps, very inspirational. What a great sound, this people is proof how important the rythym section is, you can be a great player, however, it's the engine room that makes the difference and the cream on the cake. Thanks for posting, I'll be watching this on a few times, lol.

  • SRV is the best of all time, but if double trouble will play with him im good with it

  • @jackhessell I get the feeling Stevie is looking down on them with that smile on his face and his full blessing. :)

  • @spudgun2006 u know stevie is looking down with his thumbs up....rip stevie is sooo missed but u see how the torch ALWAYS gets passed!!!! Brilliant musicianship..........

  • omg this is killer

  • great voice!!

  • Denny Freeman, Charlie Sexton, Chris Layton, Tommy Shannon...can't make out the SG player...

  • @Chakirisan The guy on the SG is definetly Gordie Johnson of Big Sugar / Respectables fame. Not trying to come off snobby, and I apolagise if I have, just wanted to answer your query.

  • @Chakirisan the guy on the sg is the guy who wrote the song...

  • Thank you for posting this ,I have been looking for the concert since it was on Tv

  • He's not in his best here...looking/sounding kinda high...:-(

  • He used to be all that before moving to gospel...

  • who is the dude on the cream colored strat?

  • @bluelibra65 That's Denny Freeman.

  • I will always miss SRV.

  • i miss SRV..

  • Anyone have the video of him doing

Baby there is no one like you .

I have been trying to find this for a while.

Its from the same show, Thanks

  • I just got it uploaded for you.

  • check out this browse again...someone uploaded it recently!.

  • I remember watchin this performance, the other song he did that night was a Dr. Jon tune, that one was probably the best blues performance I have ever seen, wish someone would post that one, I think it was called "No one like you"

  • At the last few seconds, I heard Albert Collins's tele say "you got my money on down the road" that was Lang wasn't it?

  • No... that was Gordie Johnson on the SG doing that with the slide

  • @globey thanks

  • Been a Long Time may be one of the great albums made. Think about the songs and the players on this Album. Buy it if you don't have it it is amazing. (Amusic that is disappearing to modern crap)

  • @drummerboy5142 what album would that be?

  • would love to see him jam with john mayer

  • Don't forget that's Charlie Sexton there too!

  • Best Blues song EVER !!!

  • are they the same that played with SRV???

  • Comment removed

  • the drummer and bass player are thats double trouble

  • yea. Chris Layton(drummer) Tommy Shannon(bass) = Double Trouble

  • THAT IS GORDIE JOHNSON,

doing a great job on the rythm gitar too!

  • Gosh that was outstanding. Awesome groove

  • Tommy Shannon (bass) still rockin after forty plus years!

  • as far as this song, "Grady" does it best, one of my faves from their live shows in Austin when Chris was their drummer.

  • pretty sure that is Grady( Gordie Johnson) With the red shirt playing the SG no?

  • yep that's Gordie with original Grady drummer Chris Layton. "groundhog day" can be found on the Grady 'Y.U, So Shady' album. you should get it.

  • Love whipper, you in austin?

  • I can't believe that he is doing that bend at 3:10 . amazing energy . . .

  • jonny's got a great blues voice ...

and gordie johnston plays a monster rhythm guitar groove ... and it's pretty obvious that they're all having a good time and no one on this stage gives a tinker's damn who plays what part ...

  • @therealcraigbaxter gordie JOHNSON - represent . the man does the BEST version of this song - hands down - he was NICE to let young lang have centre stage :)

  • shits tight...

    ,jon

  • fantastic, great

  • this tune is great but you just don't need 4 guitar players to pull it off .... Gordie and Charlie would have done fine.

  • an interesting story behind the studio recording of this song: i read this in an interview circa time of release. the intro ryhthm guitar part was too hard for lang to get ( believe it or not) and they scratched him from doing it on the album and got either charlie or denny ( not sure which) to record it. as you see live the story is the same. hard to believe lang had such a hard time with the timming of this song huh? but it's true!

  • Was it the song itself, or just trying to play it while he sang it? Either way, interesting tidbit.

  • i can't remember, i know the producer was like " scratch lang playing on the record, we'll just record the vocals"

  • Now that I think of it, he wouldn't actually HAVE to do both at once recording it.

You know, I've seen him live a couple times... he's never come off a great rhythm guitarist anyway. His leads are good, but the heavy rhythm stuff was usually done by the second guitar.

  • would have been nice to see Gordie get a solo in here somewhere......awesome performance overall!!!

  • His voice is so er what we call in England bloody good .Just hits the right place with his guitar playin ,WOW!

  • His name is Denny Freeman not Billy and it sure isn't Jimmy Buffett. Denny Freeman ues to play with Jimmy and Stevie Ray Vaughan back in Austin Texas back in the 70s

  • who's the older guy on the strat?

  • i think someone's been smoking with jimmy buffett ...

  • charlie sexton was/is with arc angels ... double trouble is chris layton and tommy shannon ...

  • damn this kids got soul!!

  • the man in black behind Jonny playing the opening licks is Charlie Sexton of Double Trouble, Bob Dylan and Lucinda Williams producer (awhile back).

  • I don't think that is Jimmy Buffet.... at 2:12 he calls him Billy as "yellow Strat" starts a solo.

  • Neither Buffet or Reznor are in this video. As noted in another post, Gordie Johnson is playing the SG. "Yellow Strat" is a guy named Denny Freeman who was a contemporary and friendly rival of SRV during his Austin days.

  • He says Denny, because that's Denny Freeman with the yellow strat that plays the solo.

  • That is Gordie Johnson in red playing slide on the SG Don't know where you see Jimmy Buffet...

  • Yellow Strat.

  • I miss Stevie Ray, as much as I know he could do it. Johnny would never and should never try. I love both of them for who and what they are. Bless the blues and bless Johnny lang! felt good to see this!!!

  • With Jimmy Buffet and Trent Reznor on backing rhythm guitars, how could you go wrong?

  • hahahahaha

  • what a union!!!

    WEG

  • You gotta hear "touch" by jonny lang. his best i think

  • Sweet...love the vocalist...he's screaming out, has a lot of Soul...

    Tight Band...:-)

  • Do you really have no idea who those people are. Wow!! Ok vocalist Johnny Lang, Rhythm guitars-Trent Reznor and Jimmy Buffet. The band Double Trouble as in Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble.

  • rumor has it that he will play SRV in the movie

  • wat movie, i always wondered if theyed make a movie about stevie

  • Mike Myers is also doin' a bio pic about Keith Moon

  • I love jonny lang's good blues shit, though I'm not really into his soul/pop ventures. Either way, he'll always be one my favorite guitarists. I've seen him many times and I know what he's truly capable of, so all you haters: Jonny's talented. He's got the blues and sings with soul. I suggest thoroughly listening to him first three albums and you'll know what I mean.

  • only makes sense. he's a blues player. so are Kenny Wayne Shepherd and Slash (No, it isn't supposed to sound sarcastic, you speak the truth)

  • RIP Stevie... Would like to see Kenny Wayne do this. Jonny is awesome, but Kenny is a better guitar player.

  • fortress, I agree that Kenny Wayne Shepherd has got some mad skills, though I think Lang's style is more original. Most (if not all) of the stuff KWS plays has already been done. Don't get me wrong, I'm still a big fan.

  • But Kenny is a better guitar player??? That's got to give every guitar player worth listening to a good chuckle. I don't normally respond to this guy is better than that guy comments but on this particular day there were at least three guitarists sharing that stage who are better than KWS in terms of technique, creativity, and feel. That is all I got to say about that ;)

  • too bad he "found" jesus and now he sucks

notice the girl on his guitar - gone, gone, gone, now

    I miss you Jonny

  • i completely agree

  • Hey johny you rock , one of the bests DT

  • Save Humanity LassieSongsUSA!

  • Not bad, but disappointing to see Gordie relegated to 2nd rhythm guitar duties. He wrote the song and all the guitar parts for it. It was on Big Sugar's first album way back in the early 90's. Chris Layton also became Gordie's first drummer when he formed Grady in 2004 after moving to Texas.

  • Shut you mouth fuckface! Ive seen both and SRV is great one the best but that doesnt diminish JL. Hes young and talented . According to B.B King nd Eric Clapton JL is one of the best and with the greatest feeling. Even if you SRV1724 practise for 100 years you will never be fit enough to carry JLs Guitar bag.

  • I agree w/ sella! Saw SRV 4 times and Jonny once. SRV will always reside closer to my heart but Jonny is an awesome talent and puts on a powerful show! Great to see him playing with Chris and Tommy!

  • your a fucking retard i bet u cant play or even sing

  • Did anyone ever find the DVD?

  • Hey thanks Truthislife! I got turned on to Jonny a little while after we lost Stevie.... To see him play with Double Trouble just kicks ass!!! Thanks again!

  • Anyone know where i can get a full length copy of this ?

  • Denny Freeman is pretty damn good.

  • he sure is! I think he's the underrated one in this group of guitarists for sure.

  • heyyyy...do you happen to have the whole show this is from, with susan, and jimmy, and eric and kenny wayne? i had this recorded yrs ago, but lost it in a move and cant fine it anywhere. let me know...thanks, bec

  • God I love this man

  • Jonny the best

  • He sounds kinda like Paul Rodgers here. nice

  • Is there anyone out there who knows how I might get my hands on a song Jonny's only done live, I think it's called "It's Only The Wind"??

  • Its Also Gordie Johnson from Big Sugar. He is a monstrous player with the of the best tones ever. A good Toronto boy too! He lives in Austin now. He wrote this song for the album which was NOT a SRV tribute album it was a Double Trouble album co written with many different artists. Including KWS, Susan Tedeschi, Bramhall, Sexton, and Malford Milligan who currently fronts Storyville with them.

His is the best track on the album.

  • Yeah, that's Charlie Sexton. I have the SRV tribute CD 'Been a Long Time' that this song is recorded on, along with the whole Austin City Limits show on DVD. It's a great CD and concert if you can find copies.

  • Hey, I found the CD, but where did you find the DVD????

  • Bought it off of eBay several years back from some guy who recorded the original broadcast. I've never seen any official video release for this particular show.

  • is that charlie sexton playing at the start?

  • looks like it to me

  • MAN! That boy has talent!!!!

  • too cool. love both johnny and double trouble.

too bad Stevie couldnt be there :(

  • not a problem :)

  • Very cool!!! Thanks for sharing Stratman!!!

  • I've always thought that Drummer was so damn cute! ~Tammi~

  • what year was this???

  • god i like this song. what a great jam session its austin city limits aint it?

  • I'd like to see Johnny come back to the blues he does it so well.

  • Who is the man with the yellow striped strat. I've seen him in a bunch of A.C.L. shows.

  • this is the first i have seen or heard of this vidoe, but i love it- keep jaming Jonny, we love u

  • holly shit, i'm a huge fan of Jonny's and if i'm not mistaken he has no ring and listen to the song, is he seperated? He went from gosipal to again blues, i'm confused!! love him anyway and will always be there- what do u think

  • momagaler222,

This video is old, before he was married and before he kicked drugs and started playing more gospel/R&B influenced blues.

  • hi,thanks for responding.thanks for ur info.I have been a fan for many years, and this is the first i have ever heard of this song. It's kind of hard to understand what is really happening to him these days- is he ok or relapsing? I wish the best to him, he really is great. These days the blues are so diff. but try to give alittle, I guess. I'm old school with the blues but i like to hear what's new and i love Jonny Lang!!What do u think will make him big again ?

  • This is a song written by Gordie Johnson (Big Sugar, Grady). He's in the red shirt. Peace! cb

  • speclk19, thanks for ur input, means alot. what infor do u have to give on Jonny Lang that's new? Any new gigs or songs?

  • He's actually on tour right now, mostly small venues in the South and near California. He & I are the same age so he was a big reason why I first picked up a guitar. I had the opportunity to see him at the Hammerstein Ballroom in NYC about 6 years ago, great show. Just do a search here on YouTube, you should be able to find some of his new work. It's a little different than this, but still good.

  • This song is f***ing great!

    Thanks for uploading ;)

  • Hey, here's the best rhythm section in Texas, the legendary Double Trouble! And the guitarist, Denny Freeman & Charlie Sexton, such amazing texan musicians! And Gordie Johnson (it's his song i think)& Jonny, who was discovered very early age(just like Charlie)...If people couldn't respect what they're doing: just keep your opinion 4yourself...

  • metaljosh is a douche! jonny lang is fucking fantastic and stevie ray vaughn was a god, what the hell has this dude been listening to? he needs to listen to more jonny lang and stevie ray vaughn and maybe he will get it, otherwise its his loss because talent like theirs comes straight from GOD and its beautiful to listen to. rock on jonny and rest in peace stevie!

  • Holy Crap metalman. . metalhead i feel sorry for you my friend, cause its not fair when all the girls at school beat you and hang you up by your shit stained, spice girl knickers. But hey all those years of you being dropped on your head and maybe the severe retardation have affected your judgment.

    have a nice day wankerboy. . . .

  • Hi "metaljosh".

Is your name programm for your music taste?

If it is, the GREAT MUSIC of Jonny definitly is wrong for you. Why don`t you just enjoy what you like and let other people enjoy what they like?

Think about it and have a nice day.

(Jonny`s fans are way to gentle sometimes...)

  • Wow. Someone obviously has a really, really small penis and is trying to compensate by being all manly and critical and shit. "No MentalJosh!" Sorry, it was Metaljosh. Ah hell, what's the difference. Mental, metal. I think that the only thing that Joshypoo can play is the radio and probably poorly at that. Now go to your room you sad little fuck and let the adults discuss music.

  • Actually, Metaljosh, if you listen to his music, he is closer to Stevie Wonder than to SRV, now go away and try to expand your music knowledge and appreciation before making anymore stupid and uninformed comments.

  • Are you saying he's just like SRV; sucks, or just like SRV AND he sucks? Because if you're saying SRV sucks, your credibility is completely gone right there in that one line.
