    Aaah, memories.

  • This video is stupid .has no meaning behind it.

  • @babydoll081 That's what makes it such a great song. It's not about love or making or breaking up, it's a nonsense song about Australian animals. :)

  • @babydoll081 You're a fucking idiot. Not everything needs to have a reason.

  • @babydoll081 Have respect for your elders!

  • If I'm not mistaken, kiwis are from New Zealand, not from Australia. I've always loved Rolf Harris's creations.

  • My class is singing this for Australia day

  • @MsSloppyseconds I know I'm not gonna change anyone's minds here but, Kiwis are the same as Whites, Blacks, Middle Eastern, East Asian, Australian Aborigines, Interracial etc. They deserve as much respect as everyone else, seeing as EVERYONE has human rights. However, I won't inspire you by this lil' speech, but hopefully you'll see the light of day. If not well that's life.

  • I've never known why you would want to tie down a kangaroo, other than to have sex with it.

    Peace from South Africa

  • @GamingGuy18 I see you have a hard on for kiwis.

  • OMG my dad showed me this and ernie the fastes milkman love em all <3

  • Not many people know about the missing verse:

'Keep ya cock in your pants, Lance

Keep ya cock in your pants.

She only wanted a dance, Lance

so keep ya cock in your pants.'

    All together now!

  • Classic. Thank you.

  • This is a great song. The picuters of animals were very good. I had fun comoning up with extra versus for other Austrailian animals.

    Prick me echidna spiney.

    Prick me echidna spine.

They slurp up the little ants of mine.

    Prick me echidna spine.

    Hunt me crocodile. Crikey...

    etc.

It is nice to be politicly correct. The verse with a slur for aborigionals is omitted. I appreciate it.

  • Hey, katieXD, and your fellow posters: We do not need to be coarse and obscene. I happen to like Aussie folk music ("Walzing Matilda" is also one of my favourites.

We can discuss our likes and dislikes without a bunch of yabber, and thats the fair dinkum!

  • How old was I when this made the rounds on radio stations over here on the upside of the world, twelve, maybe. That makes it fifty years, or so. It was fun then and it is now. I hope you enjoy it and reminisce with your own memories.

  • My mum used to work for him, and he painted her and its now a famous painting.

I've been round his house a few times and he is just like the whole tv show, its not an act, he's really real:D

  • I'm campaigning for this to be the new Australian national anthem. Lets face it the one we have is rubbish.

  • NO i wont add your friend because your friend looks like rolf harris

  • My new favourite thing to watch stoned, hero.

  • Ha ha

  • This guy comes on The Ed Sullivan Show and starts playing a big piece of cardboard and the song works. Something that simple and the guy had a hit song. The 60's -- what a creative time. Harris was a big TV personality-singer in Australia & his follow up to this song was a brilliant rocker called "Ringo For President." It was terrific. A real shouter and audience participation song. Worth seeking out.

  • Hey I'm a geek and damn proud of it!!!!!!

  • i remember hearing this when i was a kid.

  • NO TOP COMMENT QUICKY SOME ONE COMMENT!!

  • Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda ate kangaroo on The Today Show. I see them and Kathie Lee's kids and Hoda's niece heading for the Komodo Dragon cage. Puff the Magic Dragon -- Whiffenpoof song. Howard Stern says Kathie Lee Gifford is "a fucking cunt" and SNL hates her and Hoda too. Frank tried to get asshole sex on the sly -- telling his wife that she is an asshole and he is her enema.

  • @InvaderZee2112 No, I now think I know it from some album from when I was a kid...(folksongs?)

  • This song ruins every important event in my life. I swear when I have my first kid I'll have this song in my head just to make my labour that much worse.

  • some american told me that he had to learn this in class and that all australians loved this song and i was like i've never heard of it

  • @ssaahhrraa9 Of course we love it, its catchy and says a lot bout our country :D

  • My third grade social studies teacher made us listen to this song and Walzting Matilda when we were learning about Australia.

  • @xX12Booger14Xx If you're interested in that sort of stuff, have a look at the things like The Dreamtime. There used to be animated shorts on TV when I was a lad, there might be some floating around Youtube.

There's a ton of stories mate, The Rainbow snake, Wanka Manapulpa Minyma (The Trapdoor Spider Woman)

Wonga and Nudu, there's heaps of them!

  • @xX12Booger14Xx Damn, Im sorry to hear that mate.

But Im gald there's someone out there interested in Australian history!

  • @xX12Booger14Xx they're one of the main reasons why Australia does not have orphanages anymore.

  • @xX12Booger14Xx thats the 'Forgotten Australians' you're talking about and it also involved children who were taken from within Australia one of my good comrades were one of those people.

  • @xX12Booger14Xx Wait wait....hang on. White children? No mate, Im sorry. The government took Aboriginal children away from their parents to "breed out" their skin colour. To make them white. It was horrible.

In fact, I am decendant of one of those "half breeds".

  • @xX12Booger14Xx Really? Hmm, well thats slightly dissapointing....but its great you researched the Aussie history!

Yes, sadly, our ansestors didn't really treat the Aboriginals as kindly as we should. Hell, the word Aboriginal is an insult, really. We did introduce alcohol to them but we did alot of terrible things. The sad bit is The Lost Generation. Now that was truly horrific, and my grandmother is a part of that.

And to you sir! Its 11:30 pm, time for some shut eye!

  • @xX12Booger14Xx Hahahahaha, and Ive found out that the American girls love our accents, so thats definately a plus for me! I did American history during high school, so its nice to know the world knows a little about us!

    Al from Victoria, Australia!

  • @xX12Booger14Xx Come on down sometime mate!

  • Saw him sing this live on Saturday, easily the best moment of my life

  • You could never iwn a slave in australia, jesus, if your going to say spnething like that at least do your homework.

  • Nice fucking language.

  • so a couple years ago the rock radio station switched to country and while they where switching, they played this song for 72 hours haha

  • Sang by Rolf Harris? Come on dude, I'm 13 and I have better grammar than that!

  • Keep me cockatoo cool!!

  • Let me Abos go loose, Lew Let me Abos go loose They're of no further use, Lew So let me Abos go loose.

The stockman thus emancipates his Aboriginal captives only at his death, when they were "of no further use" to him. This verse did not feature in later versions of the song. In 2006 Harris expressed regret about the original lyrics.[6]--Wikipedia

  • @clintonearlwalker No, he didn't "emancipate his Aborginal captives" (you poor man) - he just let his workers go - as in the sacking phrase - "I'll have to let you go" - meaning "I have no further use for what I employ you to do for me." I suspect Harris's "regret" was more to do with his squeaky clean image on TV than anything else.

  • "The fourth verse was removed circa 1960, because of its use of the word Abo, an offensive slang term for Aboriginal Australians. The lyrics of this verse (not found on Rolf Harris' official website)The stockman thus emancipates his Aboriginal captives only at his death, when they were "of no further use" to him. This verse did not feature in later versions of the song. In 2006 Harris expressed regret about the original lyrics.[6]--Wikipedia Fuck you asshole.

  • @clintonearlwalker The two words "Aboriginal Australians" are also seen as offensive to some people, both being as foreign to them as your valediction "Fuck you asshole" is offensive to me. There is nothing in the song - and you know it - to show that the his Abos were slaves, and to say Abo is offensive just because it is an abbreviation is nonsensical. I do not know what nationality you are, are Yank, Pom, Brit, etc (slang abbreviations) also offensive? On whose behalf are you offended?

  • @Misattributer well Abo is offensive, we use the term Indigenous Australians or Koori's, Yolungu's etc.

  • Who are "we" who allegedly " use the term Indigenous Australians "? 4X or VB swilling front bar larrikins? Or your politically correct Canberra chums? Strine is full of abbreviations (arvo, pom, ute for three) and slang/colliquialisms (she'll be right, g'day, banana benders, etc) - and Abo is just one more.

I find black and white offensive to define people racially - albinos are white, most "blacks" brown. Why straight for heterosexual when bent for homosexual offends? Gay is out.

  • @Misattributer its been considered derogatory here for some time.

  • @irishgodfatherchris wrote [Abo has] "been considered derogatory here for some time." I ask again, by whom?

Using 20 letters instead of three does not change what a person thinks. What is textspeak for Indigenous Australian? IA?

No one in the Lost Generation posts admits Catholic priests forcibly converted the IAs to Catholic Christianity. Think of nuns beating pregnant girls in the Magdalene Laundries in Ireland , their babies forcibly taken away soon after birth.

  • @Misattributer I live in Australia and I live in an area with a large native population, I know what is offensive to them and what is not

  • Anybody born anywhere is a native of the country he or she is born in. That is what native means. I expect you mean "a large Aborigine population". As to people being offended by anything, criminals are offended at being caught, I am offended at being called white, members of one religion are offended at being told by members of another to convert or go to hell. Muslims find women going bare-headed or scantily dressed offensive. Who says what language, religion, dress should be banned? IAs?

  • @Misattributer an ethnic native then, you don't live here, I do, I understand local cultural sensitivities, you don't.

  • I have not said where I live. I did live in Australia in the 1970s, working from NSW to WA, and spent time again in 2006 and 2010. Race relations types have stolen the word "ethnic" to mean non-white, when (from the Greek) it just means relating to race. "Ethnic minority" does not mean non-whites, it means any race less than fifty percent. "Ethnic native" is meaningless. At least Aborigine (Latin ab origine: from the beginning) is honest, & means what it says. And Abo is just short for it.

  • The two words "Aboriginal Australians" are also seen as offensive to some people, both being as foreign to them as your valediction "Fuck you asshole" is offensive to me.

  • @Misattributer All I did was post a comment about why the fourth verse of this song was removed. The information is accurate, why don't you eat the peanuts out of my shit you internet troll?

  • @clintonearlwalker the natives weren't slaves, slavery has always been illegal however they were a source of very cheap labour (paid roughly a quarter of the European dominated population)

  • "In Queensland, Jubilee Jackson worked as a stockman near Mt Garnet for 60 years from the age of ten. His pay was a small amount of pocket money at rodeo time. The rest was held in a trust account. When he died in 1967 there was only $99 in his government controlled account." "When I was in school, I was told that Australia developed on the sheep's back. I now know that it developed on the backs of thousand of Aboriginal men, women and children." I'd call it slavery, forced work for no pay.

  • @clintonearlwalker they were paid, them and the Pacific Islander workers (Kanaka's) were the closest we got to slavery but they were paid, albeit just enough to pay for food and admittedly there was no guarantee that the local Police Superintendent (or who was the most senior officer at the local station) would actually give them all of their pay as by law that's who was technically responsible for them as they were listed as Wards of State.

  • @irishgodfatherchris To be quite honest, I don't really care. As a matter of fact, I don't care if Australia, it's kangaroos, and Rolf Harris sink into the ocean. All I did was post a comment here about why the 4th verse of this song was removed, a verse that was on the original 45 rpm record I listened to when I was a kid. Rolf Harris says on his website he regrets that verse of the song, I can understand why. He probably didn't think anything of it at the time, nor did anyone else.

  • @clintonearlwalker you made a comment that was entirely wrong and you didn't expect someone to call you on it, that's just silly.

  • "All I did was post a comment". Wrong. You ended "Fuck you asshole". From your spelling I take it you are Usan (from the USA) - from the "Land of the Free" - that's land stolen from tribe after tribe of aborigines living anywhere "From California to the New York Island, From the Redwood Forest to the Gulf Stream waters" as red-blooded Yank Guthrie had it in 1944. Arrogantly he wrote "This land was made for you and me". Does that not offend you? If you write "shit" that's your choice.

  • @Misattributer Why don't you eat the peanuts out of my shit? Plus I blocked you and your zero friends and subscribers, the internet is full of shitmaggot filth, just like you.

  • Clinton Earl Walker tells me in his Sunday school way "@Misattributer Why don't you eat the peanuts out of my shit? Plus I blocked you and your zero friends and subscribers, the internet is full of shitmaggot filth, just like you."

I think "Why don't you eat the peanuts out of my shit?", really means but he does not say "Why don't you pick my gems of wisdom out of what else I say?"

How does he block my "zero friends and subscribers"?

For "shitmaggotfilth like you", welcome to free speech.

  • Why do Australia's most popular folk songs always involve people dying?

  • @TheArsenicDoll because it's the way of nature here

  • @TheArsenicDoll Because they reflect the start of the European period in Australia.

  • I HATE this song, I can never get it out of my skull when it's brought up, that's why I love to sing it to others and drive them insane :)

  • @usr3773a how funny I do the same thing!

  • why did he want a kangaroo tying down, wtf was he going to do to it?

  • Tie Me Kangaroo Down, Sport--You left out the comma. Also, it should read: Sung by Rolf Harris

  • @fnd111 are you serious with this?????

  • Comment removed

  • Had to sing this at my Year 6 leaving assebly :P Hilarious times. <3

  • Rolf Harris is the best

  • I always thought the lyrics were, 'Tiny kangaroo downsport'. I just found out the real lyrics tonight. A lot of embarrassment in the process- but now I know! haha
