@ifinefilmz You buy a stock which is essentially a loan to a company e.g. $10.

In return you receive a contract note (piece of paper) saying that you now own $10 in xyz company. If you want to redeem your stock, you sell your stock. Either back to the company or someone else who wants to buy the stock.

You will receive a cheque or paid electronically.
