Out of ANY song in existence; this one has the best drumbeat the just doesn't give-in...I friggin' lvoe this PSB song; not their best, but damn, when you can have the best drumbeat in a song, and have other songs that top it, someone's gotta scream 'GENIOUS' in regards to them : )

This video and this music is absolutely fabulous but the credit for the spirit of the song goes for the "Los Fabulosos Cadillacs" with the masterpiece "Matador" which is one of the best rock songs in spanish ever done in the planet.
In contrast to the extremely serious track that precedes it, "Single" is meant to be funny. One can hardly hope for a better or more succinct explication of this song than the one that Neil has himself provided: "The narrator is a very glib Euro businessman, a glib Eurocrat who flies business class and likes all his privileges. He tries to pick up chicks at meet 'n' greets.
He's pretending to be a sophisticated ladies man: 'Single! Bilingual!'. But he's not really communicating either and he knows it. In actual fact he's a hopeless, tragic wreck."
The reference in the lyric to "UKPLC" has proven confusing to many. In the U.K., "PLC" stands for "Public Limited Company"—that is, a public company limited by shares which may offer those shares for purchase by the general public.
I think it unlikely that the song is referring to a specific actual organization called "UKPLC"; there is a "UKPLC Charity," but Neil probably wouldn't purposely cite that. Rather, it's most likely a fictional corporation that Neil created for the purposes of the song. Or it could even be a satirical jab at the the Boys' homeland itself, suggesting that the entire nation has become a PLC in the new economic order of things.
Te adoro Neill. I love the rhythm of this song and Neill's voice is so mellifluous. I could listen to him sing the phone book. Though I sometimes have to read his lips in the music videos to understand what he is saying.
And so in the end every yuppie on the street is secretly an arms dealer, thanks a bunch Northrop-Grunman...j/k love this song a lot. Great fun to be had by all.

Give Paul Simon's Obvious Child a listen then if you like this style of drumming.
Then take a listen to Alan White or Carl Palmer to hear what can come out of a single drum kit.

The name of this song is "Single"; the name of the album is Bilingual
jeffeastwood15 3 years ago
It was renamed 'Single-Bilingual' for it's release as Everything But The Girl also released a record called 'Single' around the same time.

I've heard this song the first time in my school today and i loved it immediately.
I'm German and we have to learn english at school ^^
And for practise we should hear it first an then translate the lyrics, and i like them, too.
A magnificent song
