Actually, some theories have shown it's probably written in a code based on abbreviations of Medieval Italian. I believe, as I've read in publications, that it's a coded reference work that someone created to keep his own knowledge secret. (Think about Da Vinci's mirror writing.)

It has nothing at all to do with aliens or demons as some have suggested. If I was to hazzard a guess, I would say that it was nothing more than an elaborate book on Botanical Studies of plant life in the Region. The reason why experts can not decipher the writting is because it is only known to the Writer of the book. The reasons why the Writer had written it that way, was to keep his findings secret and only known to himself. If you want to read it, go back in time and ask the Writer.

so the main mean to achieve solt separation is the construction of a certain apparatus and knowing the required mesurements for the process(i.e. time, proportion. etc.)
so regardin' the manuscript if it talks about the abovementioned process then the symbols in the manuscript represent only the scheme of the process but not the verbal-dialectic explanation.

Considering that it's from the Middle Ages around the Renascence, I'd wager that it's an Alchemy book. The fact that it's so well encrypted tells us that there was a major discovery. The fact that it was in Rome, likely in the Vatican library, tells us that the church also knows it's importance and wishes to keep it hidden as they're known to do. They've likely decrypted it and wish to keep it secret seeing as how it's seen the light of day and is becoming well known. Those are my thoughts.
