And no, they're not. If you move up 1 space for your stairs, yeah prolly. If it's 5, the elevator would be much faster.

Hmm... so your stuck with a height limit of about 8 or so with this method, but so long as you dont require a large height, it should have a great appearance. You can use a crawler method to get the same look on a larger height, but you have a massive circuit system if you do.

I have a 10 block version that just about works in my SMP house. I'm going to improve it in the next 1.2 world by intorducing multi floor support. I'm hoping to just use pistons to make a simple circuit breaker and stop the redstone continuing on, and attaching that to some piston doors that make a lovely bing bong sound :D

Does work in multiplayer, but I've had instances of not getting elevated (ie the platform moves up but I get stuck in the pistons). Also, I always seem to sustain half a heart of damage when going down. Identical setup to the tutorial, but I changed the dirt blocks for wood and rewired the buttons.

@irljuI I'll try to fix your problems best I can - The trapdoor (when toggled to be down) should keep you from falling through, as I haven't experienced falling through with this method yet, but if you're halfway between a block and rise to it you will fall through. For going down and taking damage, it has to be 3 high, if not, you will take damage. But if you are taking damage and it's 3 high, I have no idea, you'd take damage on any other elevator then. Try glass if nothing helps.
