These songs are the ones that our children should hear and listen to - not the trash that is being fed into their ears by today's non-artists. Real talent (and art) lasts for decades - they never fade away.
@DarmokandJiladLLP Amy Winehouse never did this song (at least not the best of my knowledge any way), it was according to the press played at her funeral as the closing song because carole king was her favourite singer. PS Amy Winehouse is amazing.
When someone you love is so far away it really hurts I have no idea where the one I love is at now. . People seem to never stay in one place. I am still where i was raised up at and i keep hoping one day he will return. It has been way too many years and it still hurts. Thanks for sharing this song.
My parents used to listen to Carole King a lot when I was young. I loved the songs but I never related to them as much as I do now. My Mother and Brother have both moved tens of thousands of kilometers away. Now this song always makes me cry because I know I won't see them for a long time if at all.
Evrybody seems so far away. Even my sons that are only 11 miles away.......they may as well be in another age. Life, and love are so fleeting. I miss you all!
What does Amy Winehouse have to do with this? Did she record it? Don't know about Amy Winehouse, but I've only ever heard Carole King's version of this song.
@shrivel1 This was Amy's favorite song. At her funeral, they played this song. On Feb 9th, 2011, Amy asks, on her twitter: Is Carole King still alive? I'm a big fan: Carole King and Karen Carpenter and Amy Winehouse. They're wonderful!
I was 15 yrs old in 1970 and enjoyed all these great singer/songwriter/performers throughout that decade - Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, Janis Joplin, The Mama's and Papa's, Creedence Clearwater Revival, James Taylor, and from the UK we listened to Pink Floyd, Genesis, Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, David Bowie, etc - what a decade for music!
Im a 44y ear old guy, my mom died from cancer in 2006. This song came on the radio all the time in the 70s. When I listen to it I think of my mom being "So far away" I wonder where she is? Songs from the 70s have this "effect on people " my age. I wonder if today's music will do this to the young people tomorrow?
@gigjohn I'm in my forties too, and I agree about 70s songs having an effect on us. But with my kids, who are now the age I was in the 70s, have too much digital noise, with games, computer and tv, etc. I'm hoping they don't remember their childhood as white noise! lol
@gigjohn Unfortunately my friend, I feel contemporary music is far to ephemeral and indifferent to make a lasting impact like carol and here colleagues did
@gigjohn im 16 and i like a lot of the older stuff way more than the new stuff, coldplay are my favourite. Wonderwall is my favourite song by fa, make sme happy :)
@gigjohn i'm 17... and though the circumstances which make me cry while listening to this song are different, the song DOES create the same magic in my heart as it does in yours...
wouldn't it be great to see their face at our doors?
@gigjohn nah, I grew up with "oldies" music, and that's the only kind of music I really enjoy (besides classical). Music nowadays seems to be more "in the moment" rather than the kind of music you sit back and reflect on life.
@gigjohn my dad also passed away in 2006 and I miss him everyday. I know they're in a better place no illness only happiness. I was blessed to have him in my life for 46 years.
@gigjohn...I feel your pain. I'm a 43 year old man and my mom is alive, but lives in a nursing home with a severe case of dementia. Almost all "retro" items on "You-Tube" from the '70's and early '80's make me cry (old songs, tv show themes/commercial jingles, movie soundtracks, etc.). I can't help but have "flashbacks" to the "good ole days". I don't think the music/movies/television young people listen to/watch nowadays compares to our media. God bless !
@gigjohn Music has always had the power to carry me back in time... years, months, weeks, days... even hours. My mood can change instantly... all it takes is to hear a song. It's happened to me so many times... & yet I'm caught off guard each time it happens. :)
@gigjohn You have a good heart and gentle soul, you're mom is with you in spirit when things feel just fine, she's beside you, when things are tough, she's behind you. Take care and God Bless
@gigjohn "I wonder if today's music will do this to the young people tomorrow? are you kidding today's music is so vain and empty they don't teach a positive things only violence and bling things. depressed times we have !

@gigjohn I wonder the same.....I was just a kid when this and many other gems were hot on radio airplays. Too young to even care about pop music but somehow everytime I listen to 70s music the happiest moments of my childhood come. I've been moving along the highway (for good and bad reasons) half of my life and evrything seem to be So Far away now....those good old radio days , schooldays, friends, good music....gosh If we could turn back time
I have always loved Carole King since I was a child. I would love it when my mom would put on one of her records when we were getting things done around the house. So here I am an adult and it just floods the memories. I may have to go out and get another CD of hers!
I grew up in the 70's as well...Amy Winehouse couldn't carry Carole's cat. Winehouse had zero talent while King was one of the 8-9 artists since 1955 that changed music.
@depoych Thats a disgrace to say something like that, do your research and you might find more more to A.W. than the back to black album and taking drugs for a couple of years. She attended music school till the age of 15 and probably had more knowledge of music in her beehive than you three wise-crackers put together. She sang with tony bennett to the rolling stones, what have you guys contributed to music??

@Gwynsek Gwym, the year was 1969 or 70 and this song was "our song" I loved her so! I'm an old man now but the passion still exists for her. Claimed by cancer 10 yrs ago, when I hear So Far Away and the other Tapestry songs I think of her. I hope you're resting well baby. Carole King, thanks honey. What a talent
@Loejyrrab Indeed, she was a great singer who also interpreted the songs with deep emotion !I'm just shocked to get to know she died of cancer and so many years ago !
@Gwynsek Oh my goodness, I was writing of my girl back then. I can see how I screwed up. Carole is alive and very well. I'm so sorry, it was some clumsy ass writing Gwyn.
@Loejyrrab Oh,its ok,I'm sorry for your girl , then , it's sad anyway and of course too shocking as well.I'm really happy for Carol but condolences for your loved one ...
Yeah, Amy bought me here too, but always loved this song, and now it has a deeper meaning. Be at peace Amy..... maybe some will not be so Far Away now.
Beautiful song. Whoever chose that for Amy's funeral today did good. I won't lie I weren't surprised by Amy's death and am somewhat under the similar belief that she had a chance to steer clear from drugs, however I am saddened by the news and think it's a massive shame seeing as she had an amazing voice and we were all hoping for a recovery/another back to black style album. RIP Amy
some of you are so ignorant when it comes to drugs is amazing the things u say how stupid u r ... love u Amy forgive these sad ignorant idiots .. free from them now thou
some of you are so ignorant when it cames to drugs is amazing the things u say how stupid u r ... love u Amy forgive these sad ignorant idiots .. free from them now thou
I love this song, thanks for posting it. I just read that it was the only music played at Amy Winehouse's funeral - it was her favourite song. Carole King's voice is sublime, and just takes me back years :D
The most beautiful woman sent me the link to this song, just this morning. She is "So Far Away", but I am with her and she with me. There's no keeping kindred souls apart. What yearning... Carole said it best. Thank you, Butterfly...
@iamlabelle I'm sure she's a good artist, but why would someone re-record/redo their own version of one of the greatest albums of all time by one of the greatest artists? I'm a singer for a Led Zep tribute band, but would we go and record a cover of our own version of Zeppelin 4? No, because that'd be silly. You can't top the original.
@Bill1122 dont know dont care lol, I love the album thats all that matters to me. I make no judgement it was worth every penny and i brought two. This kind of thing has never been done so I believe Marcia is the first person in the world to do this so why not.
These songs are the ones that our children should hear and listen to - not the trash that is being fed into their ears by today's non-artists. Real talent (and art) lasts for decades - they never fade away.

Trechinho da música: Será que ninguém fica mais em um lugar ?
Seria ótimo ver seu rosto em minha porta
Não me ajuda saber que você está apenas a momentos de
distância
Há muito tempo eu fui a você, e lá você estava
Te abraçar novamente só poderia me fazer bem
Como eu gostaria, que eu pudesse
Mas você está tão distante
TE AMAREI SEMPRE AMY!

The fact that it was played in Amy's funeral makes it even sadder. Beautiful song.
