  • Eternal sonata has one of the best sound tracks ever, to bad my ps3 went dead more than halfway playing this.

  • Never heard of this song before but I absolutly fell in love with it.

  • this reminds me of baten kaitos

  • @DragonElf01 Makes sense since it's the same composer! :) It's so easy to figure out when Motoi is the one who had composed something.

  • I love how this games music is based around classical instruments. French composers ftw

  • I bought the game after listening to this :D And so far I'm loving it!

  • I played this game trough 5 times :D

  • I love this game. It brings back old school in a new way.

  • violin solo so sexy

  • What happened to my ears? I think they are bleeding of awesomeness!

  • I dunno... Motoi Sakuraba has a problem with making all his battle themes sound the same.... like...listen to this one and listen to the stuff he did for Baten Kaitos. It's WAYYY too similar. In fact he uses some of the same scales in his battle themes too...

Personally that's a big turn off. But that's just my opinion.

  • @Gidras05 Sakuraba is probably my favourite composer if you're talking about Valkyrie Profile and Star Ocean 2. Everything else seems quite derivative, it's true, and somehow missing something, except for perhaps some Tales tracks. A shame, really.

  • This makes me wanna play through Eternal Sonata again.

  • she out the theme for mysterious figure from KHBBS it's awesome

  • well i dont sense any difference in these 100 music ...

  • This theme reminds me soooooooooo much of Valkyrie Profile 2's battle theme. The same exact instrumentation is used, especially the low violins or violas.

  • sakuraba is so talented but i don't understand why he keeps reusing the same motifs and tunes. This theme sounds like its another Star Ocean, Infinite Undiscovery, Golden Sun, Baiten Kaitos clone to me...

  • Oh shit, I played this game! I forgot how cash the battle theme was.

  • I love it :o

  • sun slash!!!! bitch

  • i love the battle system of this game.

  • Mix this orchestra with Ar Tonelico hymnos.

  • I love this song too!!!!

  • believe what you see and die! PHANTOM PAIN XD

  • "Within us is a blazing fire, fanned by a raging wind. Tri-Clementia!"

  • Eternal Sonata was such a weird game, but the music was amazing. Should be, right? The whole thing was based on Chopin's dying dreams.

  • This battle theme is epic! One of the best i ever heard

  • I prefer baten kaitos style,combat,story,music

  • Chuck yeah!

  • yeah because original music by itself is bad ass :DDDD

  • this is one guy who LOVES original intruments.

    gotta agree on that one.

  • We need more people like you in the world

  • I think Scrap and build ourselves is better.

  • This sounds ALLOT like True Mirror from Baten Kaitos

  • If I could make the word ALOT in that sentence stand out more I would. The part at 30 seconds sounds exactly like it

  • this sound alot like the exact same guy who did the music

  • This game is really really fun

  • Hell YEAH. This song is incredible.

  • hey, i came to listen to this battle theme, and read some of these comments, and now im curious:

what exactly did this person say?

  • Well, basically, I wrote a little review (okay, maybe not so little) on the game a couple pages ago, and then this little moron decided to make fun of me for it.

It honestly baffles me. I mean, why the hell is he (and his little crony, now) bent on taking the piss out of me for writing?? It's just... it makes no sense to me. And frankly, it's getting old. Fast.

You can stay and watch if you want. It's sure to be a roaring good time.

  • let me see if i can find your review, i wanna see why people got so pissy about it.

  • don't feed the troll, man. it'll ultimately leave you salty.

  • Yarr, I do believe ye be correct.

  • That it did iPear. That it did.

  • go to page 3 and you'll figure it out, he has 4 comments

  • But here I am talking about all the flaws. :P

I guess I got a bit sidetracked. Despite everything I wrote below, I thought the overall package was excellent. Great graphics, incredible music, fast-paced battles which weren't too hard for someone growing up on turn-based RPGs, and a unique concept for a story.

    I think it deserves a 9/10.

  • dude... shut up...

  • Don't have a hissy fit. I was just expressing my opinion. Anyway, I said it was a good game, didn't I?

  • I havent even played it... just... shut up...

  • My god, what an obnoxious little brat you are. Clearly your parents didn't beat you enough.

  • is there really any point in typing all that shit when only like three people will read it? no one gives a shit so just shut up.

  • If you don't want to read it, then don't. Nobody cares about your weird little reading aversion, so stop being such a little bitch.

  • I actually don't mind reading. I just don't care about some douchbag's obsession with a video game. But don't listen to me. Enjoy writing your little essays about the games you like. When you write that shit, it's like saying "I havent left the basement for three years." really man, give it a rest. lol, you're so lame, i kinda feel bad for making fun of you.

  • You... you hurt me. You really did. Your scathing comments have shattered my ego. I am broken. There is no longer any reason to live. I will slash my wrists in a heightened state of emo. GOODNYE CRUEL WORLD!

But seriously dude, how pathetic are you? Writing pithy comments at random passers-by through a faceless medium? It's just shameful. I mean, it's one thing to geek out and write a review on a game, but to dedicate your time to hounding someone you don't even know? How disgraceful.

  • dude, just stop being so fucking lame. Dont you have better things to do than write a fucking page about a video game? And now you're trying to act polite. Didnt you call me a bitch a little bit ago? Drop the act, fag.

  • Ooh, we're really getting clever now, using insults like fag and whatnot.

You know, you can tell a lot about a person by how he posts. And I can see that you:

    -are extremely unintelligent

-have a brittle ego and require constant attention

-are functionally retarded to the point that you view other users as punching bags.

Basically, you are a social abomination, a blight on mankind. Which leads me to wonder: What did your mother do to deserve the misfortune of giving birth to you?

  • Oh my god man! How did you know!? -_- I'm the exact opposite. I just told you to shut up because you look like a total douch writing all that shit. You're so fucking annoying. Just... SHUT UP!!

  • Don't deny it. It's obviously true. Only an imbecile could churn out crap they way you just did. Only someone with an easily shattered psyche would continue to launch attack after attack on me. And only someone as socially inept as you would take four comments on a single video, use that as the sole barometer of someone's personality, and then taunt them for it.

Now why don't you save what little dignity you have and apologize to me. If you do, I'll forget this little incident ever happened.

  • lol, i wish snooty bitches like you would get off youtube. you make me sick.

  • And I wish obnoxious little brats like you woudl get off YouTube. But we all know that's not going to happen. Now butt out..

  • LMAO. you gonna cry? Who the hell writes all that shit about a videogame? Damn, what a loser. I'm sorry for bulling you but you have to learn not to act like such a little dick.

  • Who writes all that shit about a video game? Hmm, I dunno... PROFESSIONAL VIDEO GAME REVIEWERS??

Get a life, you little twat.

  • Shh... people are trying to listen to music here.

  • @videogamer810 I must say that argument was very satisfying to read XP I commend you for that wonderful review.

On a different topic, I love this piece. I am a classical musician and I listened to this piece the whole time on a 2 hour car ride. It was very enjoyable.

  • And you need to learn how not to be a righteous asshole.

  • I'm gonna hop in this for a moment (even though I'm a week late). I'd love to point out every instance of your mutual hypocrisy within this little debacle, but there were too many. Simply put, you added to the masses of commenters who insult one another and act as if you've done nothing inflammatory towards the other commenter. Please, do Youtube's bandwidth a favor, and simply drop shenanigans like this in the future. The world thanks you. (Note: I won't be adding any more here. Thank you.)

  • Actually, a week and four minutes. But that's beside the point.

  • Most of all, when Polka died and the credits started rolling, the impression I got was that I had gotten an "unhappy ending," and that in order to save Polka, I would need to play in New Game+ mode to "change history" or something, where several events would play differently, and Chopin would have different dialogue, etc.

Turns out the credits were just a fake ending which quickly reveals that Polka lives after all. I thought they missed an opportunity to draw the player back in.

  • Now my biggest complaints are about the story. I liked it overall, but there are a few things that I wish were different.

1.) There's more focus on Allegretto and Polka than Frederic.

2.) Everyone seems to believe Polka has a terminal illness even though she doesn't act sick at all.

3.) The pink pebble scene. I thought there was going to be some sort of time loop involved. There wasn't.

  • I will say, however, that I was a bit disappointed in the linearity of the story. More so than in Grandia III, since once you reach the point where Crescendo and Serenade go AWOL, it's impossible to return to half of the areas in the game.

Counterattacking was a pain. Never knew when to expect the option to appear, so I usually had my thumb on the Guard button, which ended up being an unreliable tactic.

  • It actually hit me really hard when you-know-who betrayed the party at the very end. I decided that that character should be my main character, so I put the most effort into that character. I was like "Goddammit, (insert name here), WHY!?"

I beat the final boss in one try, though. It was a really close battle though, so it made the experience all the more epic. I guess you have to be lucky enough to get that kind of experience to walk away happy.

  • alwaays when i hear a good battle theme like this i have the feelings as if i heard it in another game before

then i look up who it is and it is...............SAKURABA!!!!!!!!!

but that isn#t bad!!! hell no!!!

    i love his music !!!!!!

even more then the themes from MR.Uematsu

  • i am gonna have to agree with you on that Sakuraba is really diverse with his music. the way he scores each piece in turn makes its own in a way. he truly has a gift for music.

  • As much as I love this theme, I sure wish that Sakuraba included a second battle theme like he does in pretty much all of the Tales games.

  • Did not like the game AT ALL.

So sad, bought it with the Xbox and was so disappointed.

  • i just completed it,

gameplay was great, (combat, level and encounter system were refreshing to me.)

    graphics were spectacular,

    Sound offcourse is amazing.

story was quite good, the way the game manages to weave choppins life into the story is brilliant.

I had to think on what I just watched after the game ended before I understood what had happend. And compared to the allmost tedious explanations earlier in the game, they make the story spiral out of controll in the end quite suddenly.

  • 100% agree

  • Most definately one of the most entertaining RPGs i've played and this i by far one of the best battle themes i've ever heard. I do agree that Sakuraba's music does sound similer in most games, but i cant help but love the violin solos :P

  • Hey! copy and paste this if you believe in chain messages, just to know that you're a moron...

By the way, I LOVE Eternal Sonata. good job with this top 100

  • FUCKING LOVE THIS GAME!!!! Nice story [pretty original in my opinion (Dream of a famous musician lying on his death bed)] This song is one of the 1 in 20 songs that actually gets me pumped up in a battle scene.

  • This sounds a lot like Baiten Kaitos... Was this game any good?

  • I would give this game a 8/10. This game is pretty good for turn based action. It will take you a long time to beat maybe 50 hours plus if you do the bonus dungeon near the end, and if you love getting achievements, you will have a hard time with them since they can be easily missed while playing. But overall I would say it was a good game

  • Yeah... Motoi Sakuraba is the composer of Baten Kaitos as well if I'm not wrong...

  • This a fun tune glad you included it.

  • Not many battle theme are as inspried as this.I'd wish JRPGs get the gaming boom that they had in the SNES to the PS2.

  • the final fantasy games with the best songs were 9 and the remixes in dissidia, but id place those in the 20's. eternal sonata wasnt such a great game but it had good music

  • Considering how much of the game was influenced by music, it would be really pathetic if the game's music wasn't good.

  • Fantastic game, a must have for all anime and jrpg fans.

    AND this fantastic music.

  • this one should be #1 on the list

I know I come here a lot, but this song is just amazing

  • especially at 1:35

  • Sounds like A True Mirror on Baten Kaitos soundtrack.

    Same composer. Cool.

  • this reminds me a lil of tales of symphonia

  • Well it's the same composer, Motoi Sakuraba that did the songs for both games.

  • Oh i didn't know that. Thanks

  • LOVED THIS GAME.

ending was amazing for people who actually got it. xD

  • I will never tire of this song

  • seriously, I could buy this game only for the music lol, its wonderful<3

  • well the games good xcept for the story it's childish. it's only good for 2 playthroughs after that trade it in !

  • AND IT MAKES NO SENSE!

  • okay, it's official: this is epic

  • The game itself is pretty avarage, but the soundtrack is pretty good.

  • this game rocks!

  • I'll hit you SO hard your brains will go inside-out!

    - Salsa.

  • This game is amazing. Great story, great music, great characters (Except polka. she pisses me off), and a great battle system. This should be more well-known than it is. =)

  • "Taste the blade of death!"

    -Allegretto

  • Do u guys think that this game really lived up to the potential of a tri ace+square enix masterpiece?

Personally i think all their games r awesome when they come together, they should merge companies..

  • No...

FF when down the drain once they merged with Enix.I personally hate how my turn base love for games got shot down ;o;.ANd Tri Ace is so good alone <3

  • no FF did NOT go down the drain when they fused fool FFX!? they failed after FF 11 and 12....

  • 12 is really not bad 11 is just accept the fact that rpg is evolving.

  • just my opinion

  • what the hell does that have to do with the in-game music? moron.

  • that's based of pure opinion, you just don't like the modern themes, there all good, at least I'm not so narrow minded that I can't see that.

  • I like modern themed RPGs. I just think that FF7's storyline completely went downhill after they left Midgar. Everything was pretty awesome until that point.

  • Your so tall its annoying! - Salsa

  • "When will all of the fighting be over?!!"

  • this song has a vague resemblance to the True Miror~Orchestral Version from Baten Kaitos Origins

  • Alot of Sakuraba music is remixed from older compositions.

  • oh I know I just felt like pointing it out there...cause it was rather obvious when I heard it now

  • Eternal Sonata's last boss version of The Revolutionary Etude is pretty awesome, to boot. For a game about music, they certainly got the most important part (the music) right!

  • Motoi Sakuraba rulez!!!

  • OMG I was just thinking about this back at #19 lol, this theme deserved this spot! I used to just go into battle just to hear this song lol. I guess the game centered around music had to have a great battle theme.

  • Thius game is soooo under rated, no one really knows about it :(

  • 1:30 .. awsome

  • i just bought this game today for 10 bucks for the 360 and i thought it was a great value

  • Before the text said that Motoi Sakuraba made this I already knew it was him. He truly is a video game music god <3

  • haha of course motoi sakuraba made this ;).

  • this song remembers me baten kaitos xDDDD

  • same here D:

  • I think it is composed by the same person did Motoi Sakuraba compose Baiton Kaito's songs?

  • Yes XD

  • This game is pretty sweet i want the ps3 version but im not paying again for the same game

  • this is very similar to the music in the baten kaitos games

  • Is the same compositor:Motoi Sakuraba

  • oooooo this is rly amazing

  • :46-:51, gives me the fucking chills. Such an awesome melody.

  • Love the Ps3 version, more story and costumes WHEE! Goth Polka! One of my fave battle themes.

  • Must...Get...Game...

  • i liked this game but IMO tales of vesperia absolutly destroys this but there both still good games. The only fault for eternal sonata i guess is the fact that it ended so soon and so easily.

  • I am definitely hearing the similarities to Baten Kaitos. Guess it makes sense that they're made by the same people.

  • its out for the ps3 now...

  • :D:D:D:D:D:D:D

  • I wanted to play this game so bad >_> Too bad I don't have a 360

  • It's coming out to the PS3 in the near future.
