  • kinda feels like youtube videos are like comic books in a way: bite sized portions of a larger story involving similar characters that you subscribe to

  • who is this?

  • videos remind me of @vihart

  • Khan academy is AWESOME!

  • An hourphysics!

  • I really like the music on minutephysics. It's nice and relaxing. :)

  • 8:47 no i'd say 1st is google then facebook THEN youtube

  • FINALLY WE SEE HIS FACE!!

  • For a "What-makes a-good-youtube-video" video, it is strangely badly made.

  • @Cinqmil well he's filmed a presentation. It's a very different medium. You can't expect youtube's usual quality from editing, etc.

  • @Malanaks I can understand that, but I found it a bit ironic. Nevertheless it is an interesting video, content wise.

  • I dont like RSA for sound from pen

  • I like khanacademy

  • 00:00:10

    LOST.

  • Nice job! I wholeheartedly agree with your approach to learning. It reminds me of an excellent teacher I once had that had the ability to translate complex physics subjects in easy to understand (non-formulary) ways. It certainly makes learning much easier. Keep up the great work!

  • You might know what you're talking about, but you can't present it to a ... um.... live audience.

  • He skipped his name in the intro whats his name?

  • There has to be one guy in that audience playing Solitaire.

  • I wish i had that shirt...

  • 1 minute or 1 hour? :P

  • Pretty sure this isn't CGPGrey...

  • definitely not a minute...

  • there is no 1:02:13

  • i hate you CGPgrey im supposed to sleep and now i got a huge playlist, not only that but this video is an hour long

    FFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUU

  • @alexchris32 Haha Im in exactly the same boat, watching this video from the playlist, im only on 4/31!

  • No wonder he makes just one or two minutes long videos... its to avoid to say Uhm

  • Um

  • -.-

  • WATERLOOO!

  • Comment removed

  • Well, Now I know what he looks like.

  • best science video : have an asome asian

  • nice...X3

  • well that was a long minute

  • TIL FreddieW doesn't do his own visual effects...

  • The only thing about this video I thought was wrong is the fact that it's hard to understand what people are saying ... especially during the Q&A - part ... for the rest great video :D

  • but if lectures were this awesome... i'd go school everyday. doesn't seem half bad.

  • im still debating in my head if i should finish watching this video ornot.

  • regarding the critique of RSA "read-to-you" ... remember that these originate from europe, where many people can understand english, but not necessarily by ear or eye; this choice by RSA to caption their lectures is actually to help them reach non-native english speakers.

  • Thumbs up if you stayed till the end:)

I was surprised by the sound volume of the clapping.

  • I think that the music complements the video very well:-)

  • I think the

  • Thumbs up if u didn't finish the video

  • He was nervous (A) I dont blame him ;s

  • The guy in the blue shirt is an asshole and doesn't even understand film as a media.

  • Um.... Awesome!

  • I understand tht a little fame can be overwhelming. But calling KhanAcademy "boring" is not something you wanna say when you haven't even made 5% of the amount of videos that he has. So just think before you just call someone out like that. Otherwise, I like your videos. Little respect for others is appreciated.

  • @Agreedtodisagree How does the amount of content created determine how boring or not your content is,or whether you have a right to call someone out for producing boring (yet informative) videos? Because from what I saw it was pretty boring.

  • @Agreedtodisagree With all due respect, I don't see how the amount of content produced dictates the amount of enthusiasm or interest generated from the videos. Khuan academy is mainly producing resource videos, like topics of physics or even viewpoints like SOPA and PIPA, a different genera than minute physics. However, with all that said, it still posses the characteristics of being unattractive and "boring." So the speaker's opinion is just feedback, not disrespect.

  • I think there's some good advice here, but I think the speaker is a little full of himself. I get the "I'm better than everyone else" vibe from him. A little modesty goes a long way.

  • the dude in the red shirt... i hate him so much hes so much like my last science teacher and that other dude who had the audacity to go totally off topic and rant about climate science.... i really wish i knew how to handle these kinds of people as well as the lecturer... can i call him a lecturer? i just cant sit down and justify talking about something as random as that when the topic has no relation. even if it is something im passionate about...

  • what is this ...nerd shit?

  • i love how i know everything hes talking about

  • This guys' girlfriend should be Vihart.

  • this is boring

  • was he criticizing freddiew?

  • why would you teach physics the way it was discovered, when you could teach it the way it's understood.

    I like it...

  • What makes a good science video, more cowbell.

  • Khan Academy is fuckin awesome. I thought you of all people would be a supporter.

  • I love Khan Academy. I think it's really interesting

    .

  • That dude is completely misinformed about khan academy

  • If I have £1 for every time he said "uhm"...

  • @HoangTrongNghia yeah, but how much will it weigh?

  • @anernits Will I care? Who'd complain when you get free money?

  • @HoangTrongNghia YOU'D HAVE ONE DOLLAR BECAUSE HE NEVER STOPS SAYING IT!

  • @razerburst ...because a lot of pounds equals one dollar?

  • @Wintertunes oopsie

  • @razerburst £=DOLLAR? I never knew

  • @HoangTrongNghia Thanks, captain obvious.

  • @HoangTrongNghia .... You would have £2

  • @HoangTrongNghia you would have 1$

  • @HoangTrongNghia well 412 "uhm's" will get about £259.2826....=D

  • @purplelishes2 OMG! you counted???

  • @HoangTrongNghia you know when a student is bored.. they're gonna count every single or mannerism their teacher is constantly doing... :D

  • RSA Animate works for me and the nature of the idea can make the video as boring as the talker, yes

I cant say anything wrong about Khan, he shoes the right things in a familiar format and makes incredible reference material compared to a cartoon.

Alice and Bob, well what the heck is that skipping ahead to a topic incomprehensible to the target audience, electrons move so they should make light so the energy is lost so the universe should collapse, yeah, every one knows that. Brain explodes

  • this is what i heard: today we will be talking about minute physics... JUMP TO END... Applause! next video

  • Khan Academy boring ?!?! Yeah if you are about to get a PhD in Physics....

  • its Sixtytwo minute physics guys........

  • As a web developer, I never thought I could learn so much from someone outside the industry. Thanks man ;)

  • Will you come speak at my college next fall?

  • 8:40

  • I watched the whole thing I want to thank you. we need more people like you in this world who want to spread knowledge to others. I think to my self every night before i go to sleep about the universe and physics. coming up with my own theories. but too busy to write them down. but you my friend are great at translating your thoughts of the universe to us so it can be understood by others. hopefully this will be a comment at the top that actually deserves to be there. but once again thank you:)

  • I hope you have better luck finding people to help you. I worked on animation and begged--PLEADED to all my friends to help me. Psh. No luck!

I am a Flash animator, btw.

  • sorry grey cant sit here for an hour...=/ maybe next time.

  • i cant believe i watched the whole thing...

  • sorry Grey watched this once, don't feel like doing it again.

  • FreddieW!!

  • I don't understand how people are trying to compare minute physics with Khan Academy. Its quite clear that they have very different purposes. Minutephysics will not teach you physics like Khan Academy, but it will make people interested because it is simple, clear and enjoyable to watch. They're both good learning tools, but I'd say that minutephysics isn't really designed for physics students, whereas Khan Academy is designed exclusively for physics students.

  • I'm so happy that I already know about Minute Physics and I'm glad CGPGrey also knows. My two favorite educational subscriptions. Maybe you shouldve put one of his actual physics videos though. One minute would be a treat to your subscribers!

  • Thanks CGP but I will come back to this laters. x

  • I'm sorry CGP, there's no way you're getting me to watch this hour-long video. I'm going to start studying Physics for the MCAT next week, don't need a preview.

  • ummm

  • thumbs up if u watched this to the end (i dont think i get many =P)

  • I like how influential grey's favorites is.

  • so its a physics video about physics videos

  • @Awesomeness1910 VIDCEPTION

  • wait wait wait - viewing events in 'reverse' order? So entropy goes backward sometimes??

  • I love the video and everything

A non-related video suggestion is to practice public speaking - the 'um' and 'uh' really add up over the course of an hour.

Otherwise very good stuff! I have a few new YTers to subscribe

  • Ah, so this is you speaking.

  • Comment removed

  • I watched half of this video before realizing it was an hour long...

  • im a regular viewer of TedTalks, khan academy and a listener of radiolab and Scifri... Subscribing to Minute Physics was meant to be!!!

  • Ive only ever noticed the bass at the end of the videos btw love em

  • I think the music helps me follow your videos much more easily. I'm subscribed to CGPGrey who does educational videos on random topics. All but one of his videos has music in the background. I did not fully absorb the information given from that video during my first watch. Music helps me realize analogies or give me the sense of change. Funny enough, I never pay attention to the music but every once in a while I hear while I do critical thinking.

  • oh yeah, i watched the whole thing, im cool. :D

  • maybe you can make another channel for videos that would only make sense for those who have watched all the videos on this channel? it sort of builds off of this channel without alienating those who first come to this channel and know nothing about physics. maybe in time, those noobies can start watching your other channel because they would know more about what you are talking about because they learned it from this channel!

  • Minute physics lied he made an hour physics noooo

  • You seem a bit nervous in this video, but let me say this: You are awesome at explaining very complicated matter in a short amount of time. Your videos often lead me to wikipedia to read more about the subjects you cover. Thanks for your effort!

  • What makes a good youtube science video? String Bass in the background, duh.

  • ummm ummm ummm ummmm ummm ummm ummmmm ummmmmu mmmmu mmmu ummmm

  • all i saw of the title was "What makes a good (or bad)" and i thought it was "What makes a good (or bad) Demoman"

  • Great one!

    Thanks for sharing

  • Watched the whole video. Didn't understand much lmao

  • I actually watched the whole video I want my cookie now! By the way Khan Academy videos are marvelous and I learn very well from them, and therefore see no flaws in them.

  • 5minute physics, pl0x

  • The amount of squirming around the Alice & Bob video is just painful to watch...

  • Awsome Idea I hope you consider. 1minute physics, a very brief description of a topic. 2minute physics, more in depth same topics, and continue with different levels. 1minute 2minute 5minute 10minute. You get to snag them with all the fun and catch their interest, and then feed them more knowledge if they so desire till they're content. Time and Content crisis averted.

  • Thank you minute physics for bringing a fun intro to physics. I have yet to figure out why people seem to think your are actually trying to shove a full lecture into one minute. You are just trying to help educate and spark interest in people to want to learn and provoke them to use their brain!

  • the only usefull thing that i learn is that standform has an AI course

  • the guy is just jealious because we spend HOURS with sal everyday but only a minute with him...

poor guy i change my mind about you...

  • sorry guys but FUCK you guy there,

to call sal videos boring is an insult,

    as @iasedu said,

your videos are just entertaining, from sal videos YOU LEARN

  • yes! do blackboard stuff please...please...please....!

  • Tl;DW

  • nice video :P

  • You sweating bro?

  • Am I the only one to have imagined him looking exactly the way he is?

  • is this the guy who does minute physics videos?

  • Hourphysics

  • Khan Academy is the Machinima of Youtube Physics, i hate their fanboys who skip the whole point of these videos and focus on only one aspect of it.

I thought this was wonderful and noticed a lot of the things you pointed out about Youtube. This touched on a lot of great points that any presentationer should learn.

  • Don't compare yourself to something as great as Khan Academy. You have completely different target audiences and of course someone as educated as yourself would find Khan Academy redundant and boring, but for someone like me who is just starting to learn science at a higher level, Khan Academy is much more valuable and educational than your videos. You can't teach anything important in a minute, you can only spark an interest and then leave the audience hanging. Iv'e seen Khan on Ted, not you.

  • @HabsFan0718 well its more interesting than just losing interest for the next 3 minutes, its boring as hell without any imagination, and i probably have ADD because i get bored after 2 minutes, i have watched other videos who explain science and how it works, and at least in them they explain in a very catchy way how science works. But its very good if you need anything for college, minute physics is for us noobs :]

  • i can learn from Khan, your little things are fun but you cant really learn much. just because you have the attention span of a fruit fly does not mean everyone else does

  • this isn't a comment it's a personal memo

    you stopped at 0:34:34

  • Hey, I did watched the full hour, and most interested people will too, probably. You forgot to mention MIT open courseware, although they are only recorded classes, they are good because of the depth they have.

I see a lot o physics videos on the internet, but sometimes I'm worried, because I don't see much videos on specific topics of Electrical Engineering and Computation Engineering, at least not quality ones. Could you make a fourier transform video?

  • @Robloxpivs I used to watch hour long youtube vids like you, then i took an arrow in the knee..

  • When the clock is 20.40

  • This was really interesting, but i cant keep watching this 08.40 :/

  • @weckar maybe he's just jealous of khan's popularity? :p

I love sal and some person quoting a video of his won't make me dislike him.

I personally think that strategy's great.

It's nice to have visual input along with the audio.

  • G the people asked such hard questions they dont realise how good u are!

  • Complete awesomeness, couldn't have come at a better time either, i literally just set up a physics channel and will definitely take some of your tips on board. I salute you minutephysics man :)

  • he didn't know about youtube until 8 months ago, how does that happen?

  • @TheAlexdodd i think he was more talking about how youtube was done, like the channel and video making process. i'm pretty sure that's what he was talking about....

  • if i didnt have the internet i would be so stupid

  • Unlike the guy in the video, I like the music in your vids. :P even tho i see his point haha

  • khan academy is just epic and you are some what similar to it and no its not boring of course its last fun than what you do but its much better than a lesson and contains more information than your 1 minute videos no offence of course i really like your videos they are somewhta epic i can show my friends how cool physics are :]]]

  • He never made fun of the other medias he just said they can be more attractive to a wider audience. I always look for links btw.

  • what .. a horrible personality

  • is it weird... that I want to marry this guy?

  • @ayebaybaylie yeah..you make it more harder for men to understand women....wtf is so special about this guy

  • Comment removed

  • @ayebaybaylie

No, unless you want to marry every penis in sight, you fucking whore. Wanna marry me too? I gotta big one, and I mean big!!

  • Hey ever thought of being a teacher well go to edmodo.com and make a teacher acc and make your student make a student acc the teacher will get a code for these grop and put your students online tell them grope code they will join so if they have a computer instead of taking these books they can do it online you can also send links for websites even YouTube videos I hope you read this and do it cuz I'm doing Thisr once because took to long and it is also free take it from me I am only 12 years o

  • How dare he make fun of Khan academy. It is better than he will ever be.

  • Science outreach.... Evangelical hairy balls science? And da truth shall make u pee!

  • I think the guy with the question misses the point about your videos. They're not intended to be educational videos.they're once a week blurbs that show the world in a new light or highlight something interesting about math or physics. With his tornado comment,he completely disregards your point about audience. The weather channel's audience doesn't want to study tornados so they're not going to show the entire 5 minutes worth of a tornado. I love what you do, it makes me see the world differently

  • Complete awesomeness, couldn't have come at a better time either, i literally just set up a physics channel and will definitely take some of your tips on board. I salute you minutephysics man :)

  • Yeah, because people does not flock to kahn academy. Oh wait ..

  • This guy is definitely not a public speaker!!

  • @HabsFan0718 but its still fun to watch and you learn lol

  • I used to watch hour long youtube vids, then i took a quantum 4 dimension hairy ball to the hydrogen sounding blackhole lazer

  • @Robloxpivs you forgot to end it off with a "to the..." :p
