never heard of Deep South and I usually don't appreciate cover tunes unless I' really messed up but this guy with the harp has made it their tune and it basically tells my life story.,,,,,,,I got blessed big time down here in Arkansas.........thank you Jesus and thanks to wet willie and deep south!!!!!!
Couldn't wait until the awesome breakdown to see if he'd go for that high note. He did and he nailed it ( @ 3:32 )...with ease. Like fine wine...better with age!
I can't quit listening to it. I even have my wife and two boys singing it around the house. If I could only figure out how to transfer it to itunes I could listen to it in the automobile.
Jimmy's the best! He still does this when he plays with Wet Willie, his his band, with Tommy Talton, and others. He's not doing Deep South shows at this time. He nail this and every other song... every time! :)
Hi, this takes me back home to the 70's, 8 track and Lp's Had this and a wonderfull collection of good music called :The Souths Greatest hits' and now as the grey hairs appear and bald patch gets bigger ive tried to get them on cd, or download, absolutely no chance. Any one with a reference or torrent upload ? Thanks for putting this up, you just knocked 30years off my age
Dude, hahahahaha thats my friends dad. Jimmy Hall, haha. I know his three sons, grew up with them. NASHVILLE!!! and yeah he still performs, all the time...locally. His kids Ryan and Alex's band is what's up though, called the Minor Kings. Check em out.
Well, I seen this same band live, back in Sept of '06 and Jimmy (wet willie) Hall, was smokin' the entire show, which was lengthy and packed with hits from each members respective groups! His amazing voice astounded me the entire show, and I didn't want them to stop playin'! Killer band!
Great Band. Does anybody know if this band plans on anmore touring? For you Jimmy Hall fans you might want to check out a youtube video of a Jeff Beck concert in Japan around the mid 80s doing People Get Ready with Jimmy on vocals and a couple other special guest.
Yes, Down South is a Southern Rock all-star band with only Jimmy Hall from Wet Willie. 2 very-experienced drummers here & neither one can play the drum beat for this song right. Listen to the original --- the snare plays a beat behind every other bar to match the rhythm on the original verses; so it doesn't sound nearly as funky here as it should. At least they got the intro right. Kudos to Jimmy for doing at least an OK job on the vocal break at his advanced age.
Bamamarv. I'm impressed with your ear. You got it right with these comments - Even with Jimmy Hall pullin' none will get it right like Wet Willie with Ricky Hirsch, John Anthony, Lewis Ross, Jack Hall, and Donna along with the Mouth of the South. I think Jimmy's age has only served to mature his voice and make him a more talented entertainer.
Just an FYI, this is Deep South not Wet Willie. I actually grew up with the Hall brothers around Gulf Shores and remember Judge Roy Beans all too well.
Artimus Pyle (formerly of Lynyrd Skynyrd), Robert Nix (formerly of Atlanta Rhythm Section), Jimmy Hall (formerly of Wet Willie), Hal McCormack, Dean Daughtry (formerly of Atlanta Rhythm Section), Chris Hicks (formerly of Marshall Tucker Band)
Kanojas: I don't think you'll find this on DVD anywhere soon. At least it hasn't been published (that I know of). But if you want to see some old video of Wet Willie called Saturday Night In Macon Georgia. There are three songs here on You Tube: Keep On Smilin', That's Alright and Country Side of Life. Check them out and you'll get a lesson in Wet Willie music.

Sad that more people have heard of Brittany Spears than the great Jimmy Hall. Most underrated talent in rock and roll history.
