  • Song is a challenge to cover. Fucking awesome stuff here.

  • SO FUCKING GOOD. like holy shit. seriously. FUCK

  • Spoiled sick like milk you let sit too long

  • I was there. I miss north star bar. I moved away cannot go there no more

  • I was there. I miss north star bar. I moved away cannot go there no more

  • @nowherefollows How I missed him playing there I'll never know. I lived three doors down from North Star in 2001...well, he's playing there again next weekend! Woot. After 10 years of listening to his solo stuff I finally get to see him play. :D

  • this song made me fall in love with this dude.

  • his lyrics manage to convey such complex emotions, while remaining extremely simple and easy to understand.

  • I thought it was cool how the sad waltzes of Pietro Crespi is actually a line from a later part of the book...they aren't actually mentioned at the point of his death.

  • Got to be one of the most over looked musicians in the world. Makes me sad.

  • Mike Kinsella = Life WIN

  • this song is SO fun to play on guitar.

  • @StylishWithEase so true

  • people would use the word "obscure" a bunch of times on this video... indie trolls....

  • jesus christ... it's not a tattoo. haven't any of you ever been to a show? they stamp your hand so they know you paid. they stamp the musician's hands so they don't get mistaken for someone who's just there to see a show.

  • @oldschoolemo93

Wow. Have you been to like a million bazillion shows?! Everyone in these comments are super lame!

We should go to some shows together and tell everyone there what is and isn't a tattoo.

    Awesome dude style.

  • i wish id get a chance to meet him and ask him how he made that song..

  • i dont think its a tattoo, because if you look in the Good Friends Bad Habits video, he holds up his drink with his right hand and there is no tattoo. plus that would make a dumb place to put a tattoo. especially one that SAYS something lol its probably marker for the show he played.

  • Mike is amzing...

  • mike is a great guitarist.

  • i love his songs.

  • does anybody know what mike has tattooed on his hand?

i keep seeing it but cant make it out.

  • It says RYAN, it's his wife's name I believe.

  • the music is amazing, therefore the lyrics dont need to be spectacular, they are simple, never, ever bland, if you think mike's lyrics are bland, let me know where you live, i'd like to punch you in the ear

  • I like this comment.

  • yeah!its how you feel , not how you analyze birdbrain

  • i love owen's music so much.

  • So The Sad Waltzes of Pietro Crespi is a book?

  • no

100 years of solitude is a book

pietro crespi is a character within that book

  • Comment removed

  • oh the book is 'One Hundred Years of Solitude' by Gabriel Garcia Marquez. I think, in the story, Pietro Crespi is a musician who dies of heartache when he is jilted? something liek that

  • he gets his heart broken by both amaranta and rebeca, then kills himself

  • spoiler alert

  • look around man you can find it

  • this guitar sounds so beautiful, as does mike's voice. <3.

  • i wish he'd release a live album

  • hey guys, the tuning for this song is dadgad with a capo on the 3rd fret. pietro crespi is not a car, ahah go read a book dude. btw i just uploaded 6 owen videos from a show in binghamton.

  • hi could someone tab out 'a fever analog' by this guy for me? ^^ there's one already out there, but its a wack o' shite, thanks.

  • I'm actually reading One Hundred Years of Solitude right now. I just got past the part where Pietro uh...well, let's just say things don't turn out good for him. Don't wanna give out any spoilers ;)

  • Yeah, I got past that part, and I don't know if I want to finish the book. I only got into it because of this song, and now... :(

  • i'm also reading the book because of the song. i'm like 200 pages in and it really is an amazing book.

  • It's amazing read but I've had to start reading it again from the beginning like four times because all the names confused the fuck out of me. Jose Arcadio, Jose Aureliano, Aureliano, Arcadio, Jose Arcadio Buendia, etc.

My book even came with a character map / family tree, and it's still confusing.

  • isn't Pietro Crespi his car?

  • ...I really hope you're kidding

  • LOL

  • It's really sad, actually :(

    No homo.

  • he's a sick guitar player.

  • This fucken' rules.

  • he is tuned to drop d with a capo at the third fret. so essentially open f tuning? i love all his obscure tunings he uses.

  • tuning is DADGAD, capo on 3

  • @onetransmission

    That's open D.

He actually drops low A down a whole step for D major.

    Such an awesome tuning.

  • @onetransmission i was gonna say, i though it was dadgad, not drop d :P

  • tbh drop d is the least obscure tuning ever

  • see onetransmissions comment, its not drop d

  • i know its not drop d... i was just saying to theangsteffect that drop d is the least obscure tuning there is....

  • this is a hilarious post

  • I love I love I love his music. OMG

  • What tuning is he in?????

  • DADGAD

  • awesome!!!!!!!!!!

  • amazing song.

i tried covering it, it was difficult

so stoked i get to see him THIS WEEK!!

  • 100 años de soledad

    Eso, Colombia!

    owen canta muy bacano,

    salu2 gente.

  • he's a really good guitarist

  • wow guitar is so damn amazing...then he sings on top of it

  • yeah i can't figure that out. its like rubbing your stomach and patting your head.

  • once you can play guitar well it isn't too hard. i've only been playing for a little over 3 years and i can fingerpick and sing at the same time. it just takes dedication

  • sensational

  • good one.

    loser.

  • Anyone know what kind of guitar he uses in this video?

  • only thing i can say is its made by Guild

  • I think he plays a Guild D4

  • where can i get a hold of this doodz music? he's freaking phenomenal

  • Download Soulseek, you can get it from there

  • You can get his music on Itunes. You can also buy it directly from Polyvinyl, the label that produces his music. He also has some free mp3 downloads on Polyvinyl's website. Polyvinyl is an awesome label; they produce a lot of great indie artists

  • owen is amazing.

i can relate to alot of Mike Kinsella's lyrics

  • amazing. and the audio is great. plus the audience was great and quiet! plusss

  • 45,739 views, at least 2000 by me. Wow this is awesome. Mike your awesome.

  • this song rocks!

  • daaaaaamn

  • owen is the best in the big blue water droplet we call home

  • I am fortunate if his live can be heard in Japan.

  • hes awesome, wish i could see him live

  • haha I can't even play it without looking down...it's incredible how he sings along. This dude's tight. AMERICAN FOOTBALL

  • Agh man how the hell do you play and sing this at the same time. I've got the playing nailed, but I can't get anywhere near singing it overtop. Absolutely amazing song.

  • Agreed.

  • fucking amazing

  • Mike is the man

  • does anyone else find themselves naked by the end of this song... NVM that might make me seem a little gay.

  • Nah man, Mike has that effect on people. Don't be ashamed ;-)

  • This man wins at life.

  • Absolute genius...

  • Easily one of the greatest songs ever written.

Mike is too damned musically talented for his own good.

  • super!

  • What guitars does he use?

  • i know it's a Guild, but i don't know the model

  • Comment removed

  • @DoofyMan

    its a Guild D4

  • La polla!

  • hey is this song is based on the pietro crepi that appears in the "cien años de soledad" of Gabriel García Marquez?? the guy that commites suicide after been rejected and making the most beautiful song?

  • yes, this song was definitely inspired by Marquez's book "100 years of solitude"

  • I heard the book was inspired by the song
