Actually it is called a template. And they come in like 100's of different shapes.

You could look at artool. These even a vid here on youtube to make one yourself.

@Toxicdemon2 No offence intended here, but, it is called a shield. Many other companies besides artool sell free-hand shields and templates are usually for doing specific things ie. skull templates, which have a specific shape cut out. Anything you use to shield an area from paint is a shield. Google image search airbrush template then airbrush shield.

it's a shield. Not stencil. And in airbrushing, that is considered freehanding. Basicly, meaning w/o using tools such as full stencils, masking off designs, artographs and frisket.

It's very difficult, almost impossible with some brushes, to achieve the looks like say, the nose on that animal for example, w/o a shield. Otherwise, it'd look like a typical TShirt "Fluff" art.

its not impossible, i had a friend that would freestyle like crazy, only using a shield when necessary, and his work looked sharp and polished
