CLICK ON attached VIDEO RESPONSES for two more great Shirley Bassey Tunes! All who enjoy Shirley Bassey's rendition of Moon River will also enjoy her live performance of 'Time After Time' and her 1984 single, 'Sometimes'
Shirley Bassey is a genius but I don't like her version of "Moon River". I think Aoi Teshima's rendition is the best. But I also like Sinatra. Bassey has too much orchestra and too strong a voice. I'd prefer this song calmer and with less "make-up".
Hay música y melodias bellicimas! estas es una de ellas y con esta bella mujer, con una voz sensacional espero que pongan más de este tipo de canciones en este medio, para que los jovenes tambien las disfruten... simplemente mil gracias
Every song that she sings is LOUD. Don't get me wrong, she is really good at it, but this particular song needs a different approach. This version is very unsubtle.
@1979Brigitte she sings some songs softly. Send in the Clowns, He Was Beautiful, to name a few off the top of my head. What Are You Doing The Rest of My Life. I think she chose to sing this full blast, cause the convention is to sing softly, but a different interpretation is good sometimes, and I think she gives it a dramatic feeling with the climax at the end.

How DARE I ? It's called the Truth ...her over theatrical complete over singing of the song is atrocious ...This is Andy Williams' song ...and once and for All...she has Never been considered the world's best singer....That's just stupid
@PeaceFan1 This is just another version of a song which I enjoyed. Perhaps not as much as Andy William's, but then again his version was also not the original. And also I can't believe that there is a great consensus over who are the best singers in the world, and even then I am sure that someone with perfect elocution, who can hit an amazing range of notes, and can sing both softly and with incredible vigour, would be high up on that list.
@PeaceFan1 I like Andy Williams too, but YOU are just a hateful fucking moron. You surely don't have one drop of talent in an ocean compared to Shirley Bassey. You are a fan of Peace?? LOL, hypocrite.
@mattbastardsen No, I am actually the only Objective person on here , who also has ears to hear a bad Caberet singer with not an ounce of Sincerity or sense of what the lyric is trying to say ....All Bassey does is sing as loud and brashy as she can and hits notes that aren't even in the song itself because she is an ego maniac without any REAL talent to draw from in the first damn place !!! YOU are the idiot my friend ...xo
@PeaceFan1 Congrats PeaceFan1.....You have reached new heights of stupidity I never thought a human could reach. You may not like Shirleys style but that doesn't mean he has no talent. It simply means YOU HAVE NO TASTE. And to say you are the "only objective person on here" is a joke. Personally, I think your dislike of Shirley Bassey goes deeper for some reason. Maybe it is her race you don't like. Or maybe her nationality. Which is it???
@LaserBeam002 I don't give a Damn about the color or race of a singer ... first of all ... All that matters is can the person carry a note, have a sense of the song and what it means and sell it in a way that is REAL and make you Believe it ....ALL of which Shirley Bassey CAN'T !! If you honestly think that she can sing/sell this better than Andy Williams ...You're the stupid one but not only that ...all Bassey resorts to is singing as loud and over the top as she can ... simply awful !! xo
@PeaceFan1 Then I suggest you stop viewing her vids on Youtube just to post hateful comments because the bottom line is.......You're not changing anyone's mind by expressing your negative opinions. As for my part the discussion has ended.
@LaserBeam002 GREAT singers don't have to resort to the crap Bassey does ...singing over the top without context to the song like she's Norma Desmond ...True singers like a ..Barbra Streisand or Karen Carpenter or Judy Garland for example just stand there and sing the song ...in a way Bassey never has ....BTW ...I'll keep posting whatever I want .....Bassey is a UK/ Wales phenom ONLY !!! xo
Thank you americangalbasseyfan, it is pretty clear when you hear this , it so goes beyond the true meaning of the song in terms of the out of place high notes etc. etc. ...finally an objective Bassey fan comments correctly...xoxo

Why does Bassey have to sing every song like it was for a Bond movie ? Lord, can someone teach this hack about nuance and softness and not to hit as many high notes as she can fit into a song....somewhere Andy WIlliams is cringing and I'm lmao once again...xo
I have to agree with you. This particular song should be sung softer, not louder...there are too many high notes. She places her unique stamp to it. Her version is not appealing to me.
Shirley Bassey shows here why few others can top her vocal abilities. Even in the 60's when this was recorded, her stunningly powerful vocal projection is second to no one. Fans of other artists may prefer their favorite's soprano pitch, and that's fine, but I think Shirley brings this soft ballad to another level with her crisp, piercing, strong vocals! Everything else gets down to ones taste in music. But, for me, this is a 5 star recording!
giowillis: You are right on! Shirley's voice is outstanding, and that's what is most important. In addition, few artists, past or present, after 56 yrs in Show Business, still have/had the powerful voice that Shirley still has. Comparing versions between artists who sing in different pitch is a personal taste thing. Most on this site would respectfully disagree with you regarding your preference for Barbra Streisand's version of this song.
oh my god please Shirley puts such power and feeling into her singing, you can examine her body language in any performance. Don't put down an artist for your personal preferences!
thank you for your letter of introduction, but little miss ross is no comparsion to shirley.I've heard this song many times, incl.andy williams live, and andrea ross has a nice voice, but she sings flat and has no expression.
Too much strength...

@PeaceFan1 Goldfinger was Nr 1 in America abd she filled Carnegie Hall many times.
She was and is also very successful in Australia and Japan.
It's right though that she was never as successful in America as in other countries.
But she is still beyond any doubt a world wide star and not a regional phenom
