ok the hypothesis of us being a binary system is interesting but there still needs to be far more reaserch on it. i know i'm nitpicking but theres a distinct difference between comets and the meteors that strike the earth. No object from the oort cloud has hit the earth in billions of years. a comet from the oort cloud would all but anhilate the planet (example shoemaker-levi hitting jupiter...the comet broke appart and 1 segment alone left scars in the atmosphere the size of the earth!)

(July 26th) I observed over 20 shooting stars that were big enough to leave visible smoke trails, and to my amazement a constant pulsating illumination that was just barely visible, much like aurora borealis, very indicitive of a mass of particles being vaporized by the atmosphere as Earth cruised through a particularly dense area of space. Good video. But I have a few problems with it.

The examples given at the end are all rocky objects. Where as Oort Could objects are comets.

Also it is a far more plausible that the periodic bombardment of Oort could comets is due to the periodic motion of the sun going up and down through the disk of the galaxy. The middle if the disk is an area with greater star density and crossing it can throw comets toward us, taking 2-3 million years to hit. And we crossed it about 2 million years ago. :S

Although it would be nice if you included at least one opposing hypothesis to Nemesis, such a giant molecular-cloud passing by our solar system every 300-500 million years, redistributing comets within the Oort cloud. Even if we did shoot nuclears at the comets, we wud need to spot the comets very far out in the universe before it hits us. The nuclears wud need to travel a very great distance to even hit it, so the angle of the comet wud change even a slight bit. And no, doing an "Armageddon" will not work, the comet wont split in half, even if it wud. It wouldn't split in that velocity.

I don't know why you guys think this is a big deal. I love Astronomy, and I have known about the Oort Cloud forever. That's the edge of the Solar System. That Binary Star thing though? I'm not sure how accurate that is. As far as asteroids hitting this Earth, that's common and it always will be. Yes it comes from the Oort Cloud, but scientists have known this for awhile. It's no reason to freak out. This video overdramatizes everything.
