  • Whenever I'm nostalgic for the 60s & 70s, Youtube provides instant Shadows gratification!

  • so very popular in Holland in the sixties...great ...cheers

  • Gotta love the Shadows :)

  • :) love u guys!

  • Très bel instrumental : très mélodique, comme la majorité des tubes des "Shadows"...

PS : Hank Marvin est un très grand guitariste!

  • Such A Wonderful Share Gary -.Thankyou ..Anita..:)

  • Thanks very much for this clip, which shows to me why you can't have The Shadows without Bruce Welch and his rhythm guitar! Nice sound that Burns-Marvin's got though!

  • The Shadows were formed from members of several late 1950s UK skiffle groups: The Newcastle-based "Railroaders" (and also The Five Chesternuts on Columbia Records) who supplied Hank Marvin and Bruce Welch, both inspired by USA-pop music;

  • UM DOS MAIORES GUITARRISTAS DO MUNDO..HANK MARVIN

  • why does this remind me of cowboys

  • This is one of the greatest songs ever played.

  • god bless for sending us a legend

  • i had this played at my wedding stunning god bless the boys and keep on rocking

  • Cuando escucho Wordenful Land me acuerdo de San Luis Potosí que en toda su extensión es una TIERRA MARAVILLOSA!!!!!!!!

  • Damn, thats an easy drum set :P

  • @Kovven just like John Bonham's set.

  • @Kovven Try looking up "Brian Bennett Drum Solo" on YouTube. I tried to post a link but they won't allow it - there you will see him playing a HUGE drum kit!

  • the english ventures

  • @atombomb31458 Except the Shadows started before the Ventures so it would be more correct to call them the American Shadows :-) Although The Shadows were way more succesful than the Ventures, they did cover Walk Don't Run, and I think both groups liked each other.

  • Gyönyörű tiszta játek kár,hogy nem játszák végig!!! FANSZTIKUS!!!!!!!!

  • That's me good god??????????

  • feliz cumple Carlos, esta melodia es en tu dia de cumpleaño nº60 que lo pases muy feliz

  • The strings in this re too loud, too rich and subsequently too overpowering.

  • @floouk

Dry your eyes sweetheart, its an epic version !

  • Me gustaria que esta melodia este mas en distintas emisoras (FM), para que los jóvenes de hoy escuchen la vedadera música

  • Too slow!

  • nice tune

  • That Burns is a stunning sounding and fabulous looking guitar - QUALITY!

  • Nice Version ! But I miss Bruce here ! although This version of Shadows was great with Alan Hawkshaw , and it was different as well. alan Should Have styed , when bruce welch returned. He is the Greatest keyboard player the shads ever had! A Faboulus Musician!

  • great but I have to say I prefer it done with Fenders and no

    not Burns guitars

  • good song hank always smiles in the songs loads

  • why does this song make me wanna cry

  • Bruce Welch had left The Shadows at this stage due to health reasons and was replaced by Alan Hawkshaw on Piano/ Keyboard for most of '69/'70. He appeared on "Live in Japan" and 1970's " Shades of Rock" albums.

  • @TheShedder1

Thanks for the info. Was wonderin were Brucie be!

  • Because his girlfriend of the time , Olivia Newton John, had left him which even nearly drove him to take his own life....thankfully he recovered to make some great albums with Marvin, Welch and Farrar.

  • this is my favorite song of the 60's from the UK that is hard to find in a record in the US !

  • pathetic moronic contribution to the thread

  • I thought it was quite amusing personally! Maybe you should get a sense of humour you boring old fart.

  • It was amusing, but these guy were apparently offended.

  • Comment removed

  • who cares what he looks like if he produces the sounds he has for 50 years, and given pleasure to millions, and inspired some of the greatest musicians alive today, including Mike Oldfield and countless others, the music is what matters and the love it builds

  • One mans rubbish is another mans pleasure.

  • You are kidding right?

The Shadows are the best guitarist of all time.

  • I'm 33 ,big Presley fan. Love the Shadows. Shame Hank never met Elvis! Great guitarist .

  • this sound makes me somehow imagine a lonesome but glorious cowboy riding thru the desert...

    awesome track

  • Hank!!! What can I say. I wish you many a day.

  • ive seen the SHADOWSfive times . and they can play. live .

they are perfectionists and simply amazing . i honestly think HANK was rhe master..

one things for sure there will never be an instrumental group as good as these have been over 50 years

  • This version of "Wonderful land "by the Shadows suits perfectly for the tempoand the feeling of the music and differs from all the rest played by them which are too fast. Too bad is cut half way !

Another version I loved is from Mike Oldfield with the solo guitar intro !

  • agree totally with you

  • GRACIAS MAESTROS.

  • You had to be there

  • Floyd's suck"when you want to learn a riff or song

    that's in a different tuning..Try eruption in A flat..

  • im not keen on the tone on these burns guitars i prefer the strat any day

  • Burns guitar again.

  • Where is Bruce Welch ??

  • My all time fave Shads number

  • une merveille

  • I would love to see The Shadows use a floyd rose on their guitars, that would be... different. Good stuff. 5*

  • lol hank hates floyd roses.

  • i used to love floyd roses. however now i realise theyr more of a nuissance

  • A floyd rose is awesome if you know how to set them up quickly. Or you can spend hours and get no where, I know, I have one on my Ibanez RG350.

  • Darn =[

  • See them live in cologne in

    november ....Great !!!!

  • Son geniales,The Shadows.

  • forever love this song, live on the shadows!!

  • Did they copy Dwayne Eddy

  • No, except covering Shazam and Raunchy.

But the firs Shadows bass player, Jet Harris was a big fan of Duane Eddy, and left the band to make his own success in the style of Duane Eddy

  • terrible j m french j love the shadows

  • Well it's interesting to hear how different this sounds with the Baldwin guitar, but where is Bruce? An essential ingredient is missing :-)

Thanks for the upload, 5* for putting this rare bit of video' up.

  • I'am italien very good, fantastic Shadow my idols age '60

  • cool and vife stars

  • Hank ,The Best!

  • The must have been on vallium when performing this.

  • Nobody in the World as good as the Shads..the Ventures dont come close!! Hank is the Master!

  • Did you know that hank marvin was the only one of the super marionation puppets that could play a musical instrument?

  • the ventures are great on the surf stuff. but they are no match for the shadows. the shads are simply in a class of there own 50 yers in the buiseness says it all. simply the best

  • I'd always been a huge Ventures fan and wasn't aware of these guys until a few months ago. Talk about good "Guitar Porn"! I love seeing all of their guitars especially the old 60's Fenders. o.k. I'm a guitarist and I'm sick, but anyone else out there like me understands.

  • god i wish i could play the guitar THAT good

  • exellent i like this video and others fron the shadows! it reminds me to my younger ages! thank u!

  • Cool share James thanks!

  • This is one helluva share, James- bigeeezy! Thanks. 5*****post shindig, Thanks as well!

  • Excellent! Enjoyed it... FrAnK (5*****)

    (thanks bigeeezy for the share)

  • Great!

    Thx for sharing bigeeezy!

  • Wonderful Land on the record (No 1 eight for weeks)was played on a strat not a burns.During this period The Shadows were sponsered by Burns. The Guitar is a "Burns Marvin" and is available again under a different name

  • There were pleanty of "Burns Marvin" guitars evident at last weekend's "Shadowfest" - including being on display at the Burns stall. Maybe Barry Gibson is confused :-)

  • Hank Marvin is Marvellous even Today! One of the finest guitarist of all times!!

    gkvish

  • The greatest musicians around in the sixties-

they dont make them like this anymore

  • That is what is so special about The Shadows.

They sound exactly like their recordings when playing live.

  • yeah bacuse their masters of their instruments just like hendrix.

(ok, not as good as him but damn fucking good)

  • You mention Hendrix. I have always been mystified over his status obviously stemming from the USA. I saw Hendrix play live on three occasion, two in US and one in UK.

    NOT IMPRESSED!

  • Your view would differ from Eric Clapton's then! The first time he saw Hendrix play he turned to Roger Daltry and said: "I'm off home to practice !!!"

  • No surprising! Clapton was so spaced out in those years he needed all the practice he could.

  • is that not often the truth, fellohide? obviously the tone was in his hands and not the guitar.

  • Bellissima...c'è molto calore nel sound.

Peccato per l'interruzione improvvisa del brano.

  • Pretty cool and on Burns Guitars without that

    "pink"..OUF; I don't like pink,but real orange

    white or green. Ivan

  • i want his guitar ^^

  • I love their music.

    Thanks

  • wheres the rest?

  • goodest?? is that even a word!

  • im glad someone other than me picked up on that too :)

  • grandioso ,magnifico,glorioso,se acaban adjetivos...

  • Played too slow. It drags. I've seen another clip where they played this one live in the Sixties, Hank with this Burns guitar, and that was too slow too. Awful. And where's Bruce Welch? This is more like the theHank Marvin Slowhand Band!

  • SHADOWS ROCKS

    LOVE the oldies

  • love that howling guitar.

  • N I C E

  • Hank without the Fiesta Red Strat...it's like Arthur without Excalibur

  • Wonderful Land--wonderful music!

  • Great 80s & 60's classic's Up to 8 "Now,, compilations of various artists in my playlist, 4 anyone who wants 2 watch excellent music video's

  • cool

  • wow poland

  • the best

  • Those Baldwin/Burns guitars just don't sound as good as a Strat. They just sound cheap, just listen to the rich 3D tone Hank gets when he plays this tune on his Strat! Also good to see a young Cliff Hall on piano, I see him gigging around the Old Kent Road, he don't look like that anymore :o)

  • No wonder, I've just found out that's Alan Hawkshawe.

  • haha, you got pwnt there poopyloo6 xD

    Burns guitars are the best!

  • Kommer ihåg en Burns London på en vägg i en

butik, 1964 den kostade 4000 kronor.

    I remember a B. L. on a wall in

shop 1964 about 250 Guiness at that time.

  • listen to thee shadowmans version.its brilliant.........

  • This is Hank B.Marvin and his backing band,it does'nt feel like a group thing e.g The Shadows and something has been lost because of it, amd that's not just Bruce Welch either.

  • oh shit, why it is just a half?where the hell is the full version?

  • Yeah, it's like viewing a ripped in half Mona Lisa, or waking up and finding that a large proportion of your body has been torn off as you slept! Well, not quite, but I know what you mean, and why you profaned i.e. the oh sh*t bit. D*mn!, why can't I swear on youtube. Oh dear, oh de*r! Oh h*ll!

  • Why doesnt anyone write some lyrics to one of these shadows songs in paticular this one, with the same tune....watch this space....

  • All the same not a bad wee group eh? :)

  • Easily one of the greatest instrumentals. So mellow & cool; kind of transcendent. Like to see video of them doing this from around 1962.

  • I like to see this video too.

  • Hi, sorry. I meant- I'd like to see a performance from back then. There should be one, we hope.

  • And there is. You know. Check the ZeKrUlE "The Shadows" video. You'll se a piece.

  • try doing yr housework to this great band makes housework fun lol

  • one of the best melodys ever. Fantastic

  • My favorite Shadows song. I used to have the EP with this song on it. But it's gone.

  • my late step father played guitar and recorded a few on tape.

  • man hank's guitar is tight!!! i love this song!

  • Great

  • shadows rock!

  • Absolute Magic

  • The shadows sono magici !

  • kein tag ohne die shadows

  • wonderful land, i feel good and eveything

    is allright with shadows melodys

  • GOOD MUSIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Not a great live sound! probably the miking! this was when Bruce had left the band and Alan Hawkshaw was playing keyboard, not the best combination (sorry Alan!) Still love the Burns though (This Baldwin badge one was stolen out of the van early 71) never seen since! shame check out Hanks solo album around this time, The burns sounds great!

  • Why did the Shadows break up. This is one of my five all time tunes.

  • violimo - Is it true that Voltar is due to be portained?

  • As much as it is interesting to see them from this period, I must say that this sound is definitely not THE SHADOWS sound. I don't like how W. land sounds here

  • ils nous ont fait rêver ; ils sont irremplaçables

  • Hank started using a Burns in Nov 63 around the time John Rostill replaced Licorice Locking. They all used Burns guitars up to their break up in 1969.Interesting therefore to see John Rostill playing a Fender bass rather than his Burns which is now in the Burns Museum.

  • To all those dissing the guitar he's playing, he moved to a Burns from his red strat for quite a while in the late 60's and early 70's as far as I'm aware, hardly the choice of someone uncomfortable with it!

  • Must be! Those "guitars" are HIDEOUS!!! Please bring back the Dakota Red Strat!

  • Yeah!!! The red strat! This is appalling!!!

  • Must be some kind of sponsor issue when Hank and abandoned his red Strat here. He doesnt't look comfortable playing on that thing and the sound is weak.

  • one of my favourites love the guitar pieces KOOL

  • Beautiful track...

  • eureka! I'm so glad because years ago I 've listened for a Mike Oldfield cover of this song released in 1981 but I didn't remember the title and I couldn't search. not I'v got it! thank you so much!! it's marvellous

  • original, best selling instrumental band ever! the starched shirts,dicky-bow,and tailord suited measured 4 tv presentation packageing-divorced the group from its music!

  • After apache the first shads tune that I learned to play

  • bruce was taking time off to heal his broken heart after a broken engagement to olivia newton john thats probably about the time she turned up state side

  • Good GAWD lookit the mutton chops on that bass player!

  • my fav shadow tune .....it sounds like it should be the theme for a western movie....maybe it was ...just sharing my thoughts with ya

  • I can play this a bit difrend

  • Shadows are GO!

  • wonderful wonderful music !

  • exellent document pour les amateurs

  • where is bruce??

  • great music, great era

  • pub pour la gratte sa vos pas la Fender pour ceux qui ont une bonne oreille

  • Hmmm - minus Welch plus Hawkshaw - what a difference!

  • You post really great vids, Shindig! Thank you for all your clips!
