Thank you. BassicVic...being an American, I'm 'supposed' to love violence in all forms, but the game sequences in this movie still make me flinch and wince as I watch them, and the scene with the raygun and party goers blowing up trees is equally disturbing The remake was a nightmare and had only the title in common with this film. And yes, at the end, the triumph of individual will (and more so, the effect it can have on the masses) is shown as being more powerful than any masterplan.
still one of the best futurist movies to be released.....where history and information becomes restricted and the ability/integrity of the individual is shown by the powers that be to be futile. The people no longer care about anything but entertainment/gratification......literally 'bread and circuses'
May I add my own comment, adding to your well cultured opinion:
At the end, I get the feeling that after all, it is the HUMAN BEING that
comes up TRIUMPHANT in the end, despite the world corporation/government
efforts to systemize the world to such extent as to mantain the human spirit at bay in lieu of "progress". I find this movie carries it a very HUMANIZING message.
this movie is freakin amazing i still can't decide if i consider it drama, action, thriller, horror, sci-fi, fantasy, or if it's just making fun of the genre. listening to this song is making it climb higher and higher as a favorite and definitely a mindfuck or whatever.
and yeah i'd love to hear this mixed with summer madness!
we could like blend it with i think Will Smith's Summertime samples that song too. Well...Fresh Prince!
"Rollerball" is a polemic, like "1984" or "Brave New World".
Looks like Rollerball is coming true: nations going bankrupt, liberty being traded for comfort and security, and so on.
Even the NCAA rules chairman declaring that prolonged acts that draw attention to the individual are inconsistent with college football is like John Houseman declaring that Rollerball was invented to demonstrate the futility of individual effort.
Andre Previn really nailed it with this funky-retro-futuristic acid-quasi-psichedellic blues!! NOT to mention his OUTSTANDING direction of the London Symphony Orchestra, particularly the performance of the ADAGIO in G minor !!! It gets me EVERY time (One of the only 3 pieces of music that stirr my emotions to the point of tears) Still, I would only listen to all this music with the ceremony and special-ocasion respect that I would when uncorking a fine wine.
nice one fella...and thanks for the rapid response....will look forward too your posts mate....!!...HMV you say?..i will hunt for it asap!!..thanks once again mate..ur a star!!
thankyo...thankyou..thankyou..sooo much for this song mate...i have been serching for it for years!!...you've made my year!!...have you got the Previn: Executive Party atall?...please post it if your able mate//thankyou once again.
I did sought after this music for YEARS too! My dad had the vinyl in the 70s. At that time it was out of this world! Still is. Years ago I bought the CD when it was first re-released as CD. I totally drooled! Now you can find it at HMV in the Soundtracks section... How sweet is that...! I would post the other tracks as well in a week or so.
I'll post me playing these Previn retro-futuristic funky acid tunes on the bass.
I like how the executive party looks like a blend between cocktail party and Roman orgy. Really well made by the costume and set designers.

the opening whirring noise sounds so Pink Floyd. or well, that Kool and the Gang song. Deep Purple would probably be proud too!

Kool And The Gang - "Summer Madness" would sound great on a mix cd with this stuff...

The new movie? It's such a fucking joke! It disgraces Rollerball. And yeah, when this part of the movie was playing, I had to tune it down, hahaha...

Hammond B3 with Lesley rotaries and a Moog - only thing missing is a crowd of peeps and some fine stimulants to jive on the whole thing, proper like.
