if it was created when you gave dog food then every dog would react this way. I have seen starving dogs eat faster, but not get aggressive..
I am not sure how you would recommend checking this dog for resource guarding? your own hand?? how would you test this dog to know if it should be adopted to a house with children? this would tell me there is a serious problem and I would never trust this dog in a household with kids.. cause you can't control every situation
Well said. I have seen some very ignorant comments on a lot of these evaluation videos. Some people don't understand the importance of temperament testing for different behaviors/problems(including food aggression/resource guarding) before adopting pets out!
Or maybe it is created when a dog is given food...you stick this insane plastic hand in its face...poke and touch to get a reaction and you sure get it! For canines...FOOD = SURVIVAL! Sue Sternberg and her insane "wand of madness" should be BANNED!
@UltimateStaffyLover hope you read the response from tranerladee because this type of aggression behavior can transfer from FOOD to other things the dog considers are his, such as family members when their friends come over, items around the house such a coach pillow that you go to move and suddenly have a pair of fangs in your hand... they have to do these tests to help the dog later
Resource guarding is so common and often it is created by humans randomly taking away the dog's stuff because the dog "should let me do it".
There are terrific was to cure this behaviour using classical conditioning. One of the best books out there is Jean Donaldson's "Mine!". its small and inexpensive and easy to follow.
Before they start training they need to assess him to see what level he is at when it comes to resource guarding and from there create a program for him to work on it step by step. This was a test to see how bad it was. And it was pretty bad..

You should really train him to not do that.

Sorry Kathy. Good job being safe with the tether and fake hand. We can't afford to have you get hurt.
