  • In a GTR i can go fast and turn faster not to mention having around 100 more hp than the z06 with a v6 rather than a v8. Id rather own an old school skyline than a new corvette

  • @simracr94 Not likely. It would take a skilled driver to keep up with a GT-R on a track, and in real world conditions, especially in bad weather, the Corvette would have trouble eve staying on the road if it tried to keep up with the GT-R.

  • With all the performance and tech that u get in this thing, it is in a league of it's own. Corvettes are pretty nice but it just doesn't grow on u like the GTR....and u can drive this thing anywhere and people just somehow know what it is and they will take pictures and ask questions......that's when u know u own a car money well spent///

  • corvettes are great and i totally love them, great performance and great engines but i hate the way and the quality of their interiors, this car is powerful, its interior is great, and has 4 seats, not that big that can fit 4 adults, but you can throw stuff in the back its a great car, if i have a money i would just buy a GTR

    I love the GTR in many ways. even before, i loved the R34 GTR. but hey, the corvette is nice, ferreri is hot, etc. but this is one car that everyone can love and drive, even my mom.. weird enough, im not talkin about performance today. :D haha

  • "The car itself is not made from alien technology" because the car is waaayy more advanced than any alien technology ;P

    And the best thing is that you can adjust the suspension so ride is stiffer. The looks are aggressive and every single line in this is made to cope with it's performance.

    The Zr1 is just a performance car  while the GTR is a sports car you can actually live with. You can't say "I take my kids to school in my corvette"

    Porsche 911 is the proper competitor!

  • dumb comment. The ZR1 is more than a performance car. And the GTR is NOT a sports car. Why cant you live with a ZR1???? And BTW, the adjustable suspension is OLD news. The Vette had it for over 10 years.

  • But the adjustable suspension never improved the ride quality of the Vette. I don't know about the Zr1 if they did improve it but the older Vettes weren't really what you'd call a comforable ride. It's like a BMW M5, you get a lot of performance but it's unforgiving in the real world.

    Plus the GTR and zr1 weren't really built as both a Performance car and an everyday driver but they tried to. If I wanted a sports car and an everyday driver, theres the Jaguar XKR and Porsche 911.

  • did you ever own a vette?? Sounds like you have never even been in one. FYI I have owned Vettes with the optional ride control and it sure does change the ride from soft to firm or vice versa. And the C5 to present have a VERY comfortable ride. Ask anyone that owns one.

  • Well if I say yes then nobody will believe me and I'd get millions of thumbs down and get spammed so no. I base things on reviews and not just one.

    They claim the vette's not that great on the road but what I believe is the cause of the uncomfortable ride would be the tires. I never really knew much about the C5. Maybe the C6 which I know is a bit different to a C5, C6 Z06 and C6 Zr1.

  • i heard that small turbo make the full boost to the lower end and it maintain the torque all the way through the powerband in gtr 34. soso weird , how come small turbo make that kind of effect.

  • It has 2 turbos not just 1. Smaller turbos spool faster so less turbo lag and with 2 working you get linear power trough out the powerband

  • guess what if any car is modified it can beat a porsche dude. fitting a 570hp 454cu. in. 7.4L big block with a super charger you'll get about 700hp. Add that in a corvette and that car is the best and untouchable. This car is a bargain for 70k though much like the z06 corvette thats worth 65k. The only thing I don't really like about the car is the styling.. But thats only my opinion..

  • My old man has a 2000 Corvette, he gets 28 highway/20 City mpg, has had only minor repairs, the car is flawless inside and out, and he drives it all the time. It's a great car, interior quality has held up, and even after 9 years and many many miles it still runs like brand new. Sorry, but I totally disagree, Americans can make good sports cars, my old man's Corvette is a good example.

  • Its all about build quality. The only American Vehicle i'd want from the Big Three, would be the 1990 to 1993 Corvette ZR-1, with the LT5 Engine developed by Lotus.

    The rest....well, my g/f has a 3 year old Taurus thats practically scrap already - failed fuel pump, dashboard, gearbox, brakes, just about everything has gone wrong on it, or fallen off. It looks and feels like its built by apes.

    People with a myopic 'domestic only' mindset really do need to wake the f*ck up and get educated.

  • A Corvette ZR-1 from 90-93? Nice. I like that generation. The styling was really rather conservative for a Corvette, but I think it worked.

    Taurus was a joke after the old box-body was ditched, but that sounds like an outright disaster on the part of your girl's car.

    I like the old SHO. Those Yamaha V6 engines were really tough from what I've heard.

    As far as the GT-R goes... something tells me we're gonna hear a lot in the future in terms of mechanical failures.

    As for me though, I'm currently trying to modify a Chrysler I-6 ("Slant Six"). I'm hoping convert it over to EFI this spring and turbocharge it by the end of this coming summer.

    No car companies are doing well right now though. Even with GM and Chrysler having issues, Ford is still making ends meet.

  • Z06 No, does not "smash" it. The GTR ahs a faster everything, handles better. The only way it does lose is though weight since the Z06's body panels are made from fiberglass. But I do agree the ZR1 is awesome as fuck. Everything shows that the GTR is better than the Z06, but the ZR1 dominates.

  • The GTR would probably eat it for lunch. with a twin supercharged 572ci engine and RWD, you'd never put that power down. Throttle-control on a car like that would also be pretty awful, it's probably undrivable on the road. And don't even get me started on the handling... with 60s-era American muscle-cars, they're all "Handling? What's that?"

  • A Ford GT would probably come close to catching it, but there are a few shortcomings to the GT. First, it costs twice as much. Second, it is 2WD. Third, it only seats two.

    So it is out of the price range of a lot of people who can afford a GTR, it can't put its power to the road as effectively as the GTR and it isn't practical as a "daily driver" unlike the GTR.

    What is amazing about the GTR is that it is a practical daily-driver than can keep up with Ferrari's best production cars.

  • it takes two turbos. let me remind you that the first stock car to reach over 200mph was american (superbird 426), nascars go over 150mph all day and dont have problems, a skyline cant do 0-60 in under 3 seconds while a top fuel (v8) makes 8000 horsepower (with NHRA restrictions) and goes 0-60 in less than half a second, and the worlds fastest car was the twin turbo v8 ultimate aero. also, the ford gt40 spanked enzo in the lemans for 4 years in a row, now thats history, what has skyline done?

    Again, there isn't a production car in the world that can touch the GTR for performance and that's especially impressive considering the GTR can be used as a "daily driver".

    BTW, the GTR smoked the Z06 by nearly 3 full seconds on Top Gear's track.

    The ZR1 isn't likely to bear it either because the limiting factor of Corvette performance has never been power but rather traction and handling. Oh, and the ZR1 costs 50% more than the GTR so it is hardly a comparison. Plus, the GTR is a daily-driver, the ZR1? Not!

  • I'd say that on a short track like Top Gear's, shaving nearly 3 seconds off the Corvette's time (and nearly 10 seconds off a Viper's time) is "kicking the crap" out of it.

    The fact is that the GTR has been tested and proved to be faster than a both a Z06 and a Viper SRT-10.

    That is what I know to be correct.

  • top gears track isnt "short" especially when it takes well over a minute to complete. and u take the gt-r to the drag strip vs the viper and z06 and it would lose to both, do ur homework.

  • Over a minute isn't a long track. The Nurburgring is a long track - of course the GTR beats the Z06 there as well. However, my point was than on a short 1+ minute track, shaving 3 (or 10) seconds of a competing car's time is a definitive rout.

    Who cares about a "drag strip"? Straight-line acceleration is for kids. Though, to be fair, the GTR's 3.2 second 0-60 time is still faster than the Z06's 3.6 second time.

    As I said, the Z06's limiter isn't power but grip and handling.

  • yes your comparing off the line performance that the gtr uses a silly trans brake to accelerate(cause it doesnt have enough under the hood) compared to the z06 that uses all motor and still beats it in the 1/4 mile. thanks for pointing out how great american cars are. =-)

  • Just because the Z06 has inferior grip and handling that doesn't mean you have to complain about the GTR's superior technology. Face it, the Corvette isn't really a sports car... it is a low-slung pickup truck without a bed - replete with pushrod engine and leaf-spring suspension. No wonder it can't compete with the GTR.

    Oh, and for the record, the GTR's engine gives more power than the Z06's - plus, AWD to put that power down more effectively. That's another reason the Z06 can't compete.

  • the corvette has been a sports car wayyyy b4 the skyline and the reason it cant compete with the gtr is cause its 2 fast for the gtr. and the skyline has what 400 some horse power??? dude be for real man the z06 has 505 horse power so get ur stats correct and face the fact that the corvette is a legend, what has the gtr ever done i mean 4 real.

  • The Corvette has NEVER been a "sports car". It has always been a "muscle car". There's a big difference. The Lotus Elise is a sports car. The Corvette is not.

    GTR: 480bhp - at the rear wheels.

    Z06: 505bhp at the flywheel (~420bhp at the rear wheels).

    That's why the Z06 is extra half second slower to 60mph - that and the inferior grip.

    Also, the Z06 costs about $5,000 more than the GTR & only seats two.

    So, the Z06 is slower, more expensive and less practical... nice.

  • um 2 bad ur stats are incorrect, the gtr puts 414 horse power to the wheels and the z06 doesnt have 420 thats not a 30% drive train loss so if ur gonna talk shit atleast get ur stats correct. oh and by the way the z06 goes for 65k while the skyline goes for over 70. and z06 has a slower 0-60 cause it doesnt use a gay trans brake.

  • Actually, according to independent dyno tests of production GTRs, they're putting 480bhp to the wheels - all *four* wheels, unlike the RWD Corvertte.

    420 rwhp represents a 20% drivetrain loss from 505 at the output shaft which is perfectly normal.

    MSRP on the Z06 is ~$75k - on he GTR it is ~$70k.

    The Z06 is slower in a straight line because it can't put all its power to the road. It is slower on the road because it can't put all its power down and also because it handles like shit.
