@bduhe219: You need to reread what I wrote, so that you can apprehend what I have aired. ONJ, the late 1960's through early-to-mid 1970's, will remain, thanks to celluloid and audio recordings, among my favorite so-called pop culture icons. Frankly, as stated, I came to enjoy her music, persona and performances of those eras, as availed here on Youtube. What I do make clear is that her "material girl phase" proved an unpleasant 'bridal surprise', so to speak, and an utter turn-off. There you go
She (or he) went from looking lovely, with some semblance of "natural", warped in an artfully crafted (err, peroxide) nearly angelic fair-haired-gal, projecting a refined, intelligent and sincere image.... to effectively repelling her fan base in an ill-advised bid to remain "relevant" and current, repackaged in 1980s "material girl" loud-brassy-tackiness .... with a whole lot of ... err ... dyke tossed into the mix .... right? Wow -- what a waste ... a nightmare course in self-debasement.
@CarCriticAssessor ...but that doesn't equate her to being a lesbian. as to her career moves in later life, i think they were a bit unnatural to her ersonallity, she was muxh more, introspective, home body type, girl next door to me, to be in a sexual sire image. but looking back on it today..it was rather tame..just not her persona, and maybe that's why it was a shock. but be honest..her career would have really ended by 1977 or 1979 because the music seen of the 1970's was sying out.
first heard this song in the car on vacation going to Florida.Been in love withit and her ever since. She is to only other woman in my life that my wife allows me to give roses.I see her in concert every time she is in the midwest .Long live Olivia
Omg my dad brought this 45 record home in summer 1974 it was a favorite song of his it reminds me of being 8 yrs old!! Thanks for the memory!!! The 70s were great especially now that Im 45 yrs old!!!
How many of today's "singers" can own the stage like that? Just her and the audience . . . just don't see that anymore. Miss those times Ms Newton-John, you think maybe a tour??
Estimated friend, if you want to listen again this song and an endless number of successes of the love I suggest you to visit Radio MUSICA PARA MIMOS - looks for his direction URL in Google ( search Musica para Mimos in Google)-. best romantic music of all the times in Internet, is great, is very good ...!!!
No dancers, no wild costumes, no histrionics, no bullshit...just a beautiful girl with a beautiful voice singing a beautiful song. Yeah, performances were better back then.
olivia newton john is nothing less then captivating and breathtaking!. when i hear her sing even live she sounds perfect!. her voice is one in a million!.
Watch from 1:13 to 1:25 ... this sound track is not of this video or what? Her lips are saying other words ... not lyrics of Have You Never Been Mellow. Samething at 2:12 .... I belive she neved forgot the lyrics of this song :-)
Thankyou kindly. It bugs me that the writers of songs very often don't get any recognition for their effort. Without them the songs would never have been at all.

The song is about a woman saying "slow down and relax, I am a modern woman, I can look after you too, it doesn't have to be you looking after me all the time, just because you're the man'...
I think she is asking her lover to relax and just be happy in the moment, let someone else be in charge. this moment wont last and soon will be gone forever, so, as they say in the 1970's, "let it be mellow". :) Enjoy!!!

Ok, let me guess, you're probably from the Woodstock era, and one who has been fried for the past three decades from all the Angel dust and LSD you took. You probably have a balding hairline, but you still refuse to cut the same ponytail you wore in the late 60s. You're the type of person who supported Obama, because you're an anti War radical who supports Bill Ayers's dangerous anti-American views. And you miss the psychedelic music of Hendrix, Morrison, and Joplin.

Who is the drummer for this song on the CD version? It sounds a lot like Mick Fleetwood. I keep telling people the drums on the original version of this are phenomenal. Lots of great fills. People look at me funny but if you listen to it, you may here what I am saying.
Good ear, man. It's a very LA studio sound. Just listening I would say it does feel alot like Mick (who I think is great also), however it might be and I say might be the late, great John Guerin (Joni Mitchell, Ketih Carradine, LA Express). Some kicks and fills sound exactly like John John and when they pan to the drummer it looks a little like him and definitely playing a Pearl kit (which he endorsed). John played with many major names on the road and in the studio. My vids at booksdates.
I totally agree with you. I believe one of Olivia's session drummers was Mike Botts - the drummer for the group Bread. He played on her "Totally Hot" CD that came out in 1978.
i remember this song was playin when i broke in this kids house and drank his beer collection and then broke eggs and put them in all thier shoe,s , he got ass whipped , i didnt like him anyways
the disc version of this great song was recorded at Abbey Road and was arranged by John Fiddy who played bass and arranged Alvin Stardust's hits...the backing girls on the original were Vicki Brown, Pat Farrar and Clare Torry.
what's good with these live versions, can;t seem to find the original version!!!

He played on her "Totally Hot" CD that came out in 1978.

the disc version of this great song was recorded at Abbey Road and was arranged by John Fiddy who played bass and arranged Alvin Stardust's hits...the backing girls on the original were Vicki Brown, Pat Farrar and Clare Torry.
The engineer was Tony Clark ...1975 !!
