  • There are some ppl saying that "For photos go for D7000 and for vdo go for 60D"

. I think image quality wise there is hardly any difference between the two. The noise factor comes into effect only if you go as high as ISO 6400 and above. At low/normal ISO both cameras have same image quality.

Shooting RAW in low ISO, Canon does'nt run any noise reduction on photos, but Nikon by default runs noise reduction on all the photos that you take. I feel RAW should really be RAW. This help while editing

  • Of course if your heavily invested in either Nikon lenses or Canon lenses you must choose the camera that fits your lenses. So who wins this comparison is really a moot point unless it is your first camera

  • Priority in video: 60d. Priority on Photos/Low light performance, d7000

  • 60D is amazing!..got one a week ago.

some sample pix from my 60D with the cheap 100$ 50mm f1.8 Lens.

    privat.bahnhof.se/wb192876/

  • @pgice yeah possibly on you tube but not in the movies or on blueray im not knocking canon or nikon i love my dslr's just trinna move into the big leagues thats all. quality on the tv is not the same..

  • @pgice Amazing photos..

  • Fuck !

  • i miss the magnesium alloy body from the 50d....... ;(...if only the 60d was the same built.....

  • @DRS1S IN what way do you miss the Magnesium alloy from the 50D? DOes it give better pictures. I've long suspected that this metal/plastic body thing is so much marketing bollox. Polycarbonate is superstrong, superstable. The plastic used in bullet proof vests. Apple have oftwen used it for computer bodies for that reason. In the event of a serious accident I suspect the lighter plastic bodied camera would survive the best, as it's lighter body would develop less momentum.

  • @davidenespana I also have a 60D. No I don't miss the extra weight of the 7D (I've played with a friend's) , especially towards the end of a long days photo walkabout. The articulating screen of the 60D way outdoes any theoretical benefit of a heavier body.

  • @davidenespana well yes Poly carbonate is strong but for landscape photographers still prefer to use body's that have magnesium alloy bodies to prevent from high distance falling just in case in my way(and i mean me) the features of the 60d is really good by the two things that it it kinds burns money is the flip screen ,even if you can shoot in every angle but the life span of the flipping screen is short and the magnesium alloy beside protection it provide like a counter weight to tripods..

  • Hey MYTRB, I don't who you are but your personal send something on public neeed to trainning at school learn about repect something.....

  • They still talking about nikon video boy o boy they still falling for the bs. People have canon and nikon cameras but to busy talking crap about on another, and not getting any work done give it a rest. If you so hung up about video modes get a ARRI ALEXA. $180,000 or shut up who cares. Canon and nikon are great cameras give it a rest. Move on.

  • @bigluttz "If you so hung up about video modes get a ARRI ALEXA. $180,000"..the 60D beats it..trust me..buy a 60D and you spend the rest on a Ferrari instead ;)

  • Two years ago I started a studio to cater for wedding photography and video. I search the net (youtube too) and all recommended "Canon good for Video", So I bought 2x Canon 5Dmk2 with battery grips, 1x 50D and a used 1x 40D. On our 1st job, we suffered hand/arm cramps from holding the 5Dmk2 after video recording for about 2 hours. This went on for the next 2 jobs and finally I went and bought a proper pro video cam, the one that sit on our shoulder instead of holding it in hand!

  • @lasting999 DSLR is just so heavy to hold and move around while taking video. On my 2nd and 3rd jobs I have to use a monopod for support! So depending on the kind of job you are doing, it is better to use the right tools for the right job. To me, DSLR primarily is still a photography tools. The video function in it... i don't think it can replace the proper video cam yet, not in this decade at least.

  • Nikon just needs a better movie mode and more megapixels i hope they update the d7000 or something

  • I like Nikon D7000 more than Canon 60d, but I ended up buying 60d because of the price.

D7000 with 17-55 f2.8 Nikkor was almost twice as 60d with 17-55 f2.8 IS USM Canon.

  • Nikon is much better built and has a good enough video mode.

  • This canon fanboy had a few canons break on him before he realized that Nikon has a better product....

  • great video. this has helped decide what camara to get. thanks

  • Ugg, if video is what canon has going for it I'm glad I went nikon. I bought a camera for taking photos not recording videos. The art is in taking one photo to tell a story, anyone can tell a story through video.

  • @Uscbryan949 Google the name Philip Bloom and you will see why film makers are usung DSLRs for film making now.

  • @Uscbryan949 You are one ignorant fool.

  • nikon 4 fanboys canon 4 pros ?

  • @2009korte I think not. Nikon tends to have better glass than canon, as well as professional DSLRs, the D3s is far superior to the 5d mkII or canon's other pro models. Canon does have some really great cameras, but I've even heard of canon users getting adapters and using Nikkor lenses on their canons, Nikon simply can't be beat by canon in that aspect. But as far as these two bodies go, the D7000 rules in design, quality, and function.

  • @ITSbigwillystyle

    that's cool

  • @2009korte annie leibovitz uses nikon instead of canon.... she about as pro as you get

  • I would be happy if next time this guy had not spoken with so strong accent and tried to pronounce words more clearly. Impossible to understand for non-English native speakers.

  • THAT'S how you say NIKON!

  • were the pictures at 3:43 - 3:48 taken in JPEG or RAW?

  • i dont care about the cameras, cause i can get them, i just like the accent llol :P

  • @majestixblue thanks for the reply. So what you mean is having a good lens is more important than having a more expensive DSLR, right? Furthermore, if i buy a canon 60d or a nikon d7000, what would be a good overall lens for each one of these cameras? i am not quite interested in buying more than one lens so i would try to get an all-rounder lens that can suit most of the situations. what do you reckon would be a good one?

  • @ZakerAdna cheaper lens usually have more issue with the image quality, not really visible but it's there.. and usually the expensive one is sharper. For example 600D, 60D and 7D have same sensor, so what matter is the lens. Of course higher model has more features etc, but I've seen reviews, if that 3 uses same lens, their image quality is not much different. That means if you buy 600D with a good lens, you'll get also a better image. Find 'Canon EF-S 15-85mm lens review' from Cameralabs

  • part 02:

.... going in nature and just taking photos, its my hobby). And off course i will also be using it on family occasions. So what do you guys reckon would be a good DSLR camera for me? I am willing to spend around AUD $1500.

  • hey guys,

i wanted to buy a DSLR camera. I have never used one before so i don't know much about them. I m just a high school student and not planning get into this field (digital photography). But that said, i still love photography. Lets say i am an amateur. I just want a camera with a good and bright picture quality (i don't use camera much in low light condition), fine HD video recording, and a camera that suits landscape photography (I love going in ..... Please also read part 02

  • @ZakerAdna you might want to get entry level 600D, it does most of 60D/D7000 features here, including HD video. And 600D also has varyangle LCD screen which is handy for video recording. Whatever you choose They all take great pictures and video. If you do low light, that's more dependent on your lens quality. 600D cost about 700euro(dunno in A$) including kit lens..if you have more budget, you can also get EFS 15-85 lens, great all around lens with wide angle for landscape. good luck! :)

  • @majestixblue thanks for the reply.i am surely looking at 600D as an option

  • Is it only me or every1 else feels that canon 60D has better color ??!

I have the 2 infront of me and the bugger wouldn't let me try them of course.

only the difference is the nikon 50$ more expensive.

I always go back to the canon, I like the video with tilting screen. much much better than the 7000D. aslo I like the warmer tones of the 60d

  • Actually scratch that about the exposure compensation. Just tried it again. You just needf to leave the quick menu on it and use the jog dial.

  • What would you suggest for me? I'm very new in terms of photography. The last camera I owned was a compact 3.0 megapixel lol. Since that broke... I basically just use my blackberry. I'm not looking to go crazy in terms of photography just yet.. but I've been thinking about taking a class in college to learn more. With that said... I'm basically interested in taking nature photos and action photos at martial arts tournaments as well I do tend to take a lot of videos of nature, pets and parties

  • @xV13TCONGx

That'll depend on your budget and love of photography.

If you're a point and shoot person, a point and shoot is enough.

For action photos, you need a faster shutter speed, and nature photos you need a good zoom (or a macro lens on a DSLR)

If you could spare the money, the 60D is a good choice.

    Hope that helped XD

  • Will both allow me to take decent pictures?

I am looking at getting my first DSLR.

I am sort of leaning towards the 60d because of the better movie mode and swivel screen. I am mostly looking at documenting my walks around Melbourne.

The slightly better ISO performance and autofocus, of the D7000 would make it better for action shots. I don't really need those features, for the kind of photography I intend to do.

From what I have gleaned, the controls are better placed in the 60d.

  • So it all comes down to what you are shooting. In my case the main benefit, of the D7000 are very minor benefits, to me.

I think people should judge a camera, in the same way. What do you intend to do with the camera, and are its feature relevant to this purpose.

  • @HouseholdDog

For beginners, we wouldn't recommand a mid range DSLR, but that's really up to you.

You could consider the beginner DSLRs from Canon, like 550D or 600D

  • @Rawkzeagle Hi, thanks for that. Actually I did get the 60D in the end. I don't find it that difficult to use. There are some features I am still getting to grips with. More in the way they affect the end image, rather than what they do. Mainly the exposure metering etc.

Having said that, even if you don't understand aperture, iso, shutter speed etc. It is still capable of producing beautiful pictures.

I would prefer easier access to exposure compensation however.

  • @HouseholdDog

Haha, that's true I got a 60D on hands too, and it really does take a nice shot even on auto. Though I usually use Manual, after all what's the point of getting a DSLR and using auto? I'm looking to a upgrade to 7D, but since 7D's a good 3 years now, I'll probably wait it out till 7D mark II comes out within these 2 years

  • Obviously this is a Canon guy..!

  • You cant compare a Rolls Royce(nikond7000) whith a BMW.

  • @bratosin1

sooo... only the rich luxurious fat bastard would buy D7000? and 60D is for the middle upper class people?

i dont know about there buddy... it all comes down to how you use it... and see whether the extra 400+ difference would worth the .7 extra fps, slightly better IQ in high ISO(>1600), better AF, more modes... (tho I only found the AF interest)...

  • I have a 60D and went with it for the video advantage. The video bandwidth on 60D is like twice as fast as Nikon. Canon put their money into video R&D and Nikon put it into Flash tech. Granted photos are fantastic on both. My friend has D7000 so I seen both quite a bit.

  • @Macbookpro1481

    HAVE seen I meant LOL....sorry :)

  • aiming to get that Canon 60D for movie shooting. im so infatuated with that camera's photo and video quality

  • I'm happy with my Nikon D7k its the best

  • If you have Nikon kit already buy the Nikon if you have a Canon kit buy Canon it is not worth changing brand either way. I have Nikon so went with the D7000 from a D200

In a gallery you tell me which is shot with which, bet you cant. its all about personal taste as most modern DSLR's can turn out perfectly technically usable 20 X 16's the only thing none of them can do is compose which in the end is what makes a great image, even if a lot these days is done with post processing

  • @trackend Probably the best comment ever. You wouldn't believe how many people would just bash Canon and recommend Nikon and vice versa without considering about other factors such as those which you stated.

  • Fuck man, this is doing my head in. I love the nikon bodies, but how the fuck am i gonna get 200mmf2.8 at prices of the the canons. Canon seem to have the lenses most people need without breaking the bank. Fuck you nikon

  • @MYTRB tryout the Samyang lenses!

  • @MYTRB by buying a sigma 200 f2.8 you can get it for the same 800 as canon.......

  • @MYTRB

    lol I feel your pain

  • @MYTRB I don't know what to go for :( What did you end up buying?

  • @MYTRB the 70-200 F/2.8 has only a $200 difference, you'll breaking the bank with both, and the Canon bodies are pretty expensive.

  • nice comparison. Canon and Nikon.. they're both great, and differences are actually small, it's only a tool

  • Canon is much better, because its Auto ISO function is taking focal distance into account, and Nikon does not.

  • the 60D is not the only SLR camera with a rotating scree, Nikon D5000 have it before the 60D even start to build

  • bottom line is: videographers... go with the 60D. Stills photographers...go with the Nikon.

  • My goodness, why do some people feel that an over saturated image looks better? Hence what the reviewer was saying about the 60D's more punchy colour acquisition.

The 60D's colour appear less natural than the 7D. As a result the 7D is more pleasing to the eye. Geeez.

  • I think the 60D has better capability with the Articulating screen....also the video mode is better. Lower ISO looks better and you can get a bigger image plus you save $300 for in some ways a lower performer of the D7000... Now if none of those even matter then yes spend the extra for the D7000.

  • redman

  • this guy is turning red

  • Great informative video.

  • Press 1!!

  • nikon for ever

  • I am loving the vari-angle screen on my 60D -- I would find it difficult to live without the vari-angle screen on any DSLR now. No way back!

  • you're red. nikon allergic reaction? lol

  • @incognitostatus he's a Canon guy who's allergic to Nikon

  • ok

  • nikon d5000 has a very angle screen

  • TOWER BRIDGE

  • i dont understand hes accent

  • When using my camera 60% for video, would you go with the 60d or Nikon d7000?

  • @Leprechaun79 60D has the edge in terms of video.

  • @Leprechaun79

    60d!

  • @Leprechaun79 60d hands down

  • @Leprechaun79

You people are bit strange... This is like requesting for advice "I love to dig in my garden, which hammer I should buy?" You need a spade not hammer! In this case you should buy advanced video camera and simpler DSLR (e.g. D3100). D7000 / 60D DSLR class is for photo enthusiasts, not for movie makers.

  • Can't compare these two cameras.. its should be canon 7D!

  • Excellent review. The best I've seen.

  • Both are excellent cameras.

Both have their strengths and the choice depends on one's needs not which may survive being dropped and so on. Both have enough great features that in the right hands, can give a skilled photographer or videographer some great results. Very good review apart from one being chosen over an other.

  • You forgot to mention the the D7000 also has not one but 2 SD card slots...

  • So we're starting with a 30% difference in price (US$1000 vs US$1300). Then next: every single lens you'll buy from Nikon will usually be somewhere between 20-30% more expensive than the Canon equivalent... and that's IF Nikon actually HAS an equivalent lens to start with.

That means that for a serious kit the pricediffence between these camera's equiped with the same kind of lenses can lift the D7000 to being a US$1000 - or even more - bigger investment than 60D. You might want to add that in.

  • @CheetahAG there are more lenses for nikon than just nikon itself.. i dont really want to have canon vs nikon debate but i think it all depends on the photographers needs.. i didnt mind paying the extra for more features that i needed and i equipped my d7000 with a 20mm 1.8 sigma lens and it does the job.. but as i said there are different opinions and someone may find the canon better or the nikon better. this video was so simply show the specs of both cameras and the reviewers opinion

  • @CheetahAG yeah but with Nikon, their lenses stay the same. i.e. you can still use them even when you change model or series. Canon force you to buy a new set of lenses.

  • can u do a vid on canon 60d vs lumix gh2?

i cant decide which one to get im using it more for video.

  • Both are excellent cameras and in the right hands are capable of great results.

But the canon 60D offers more video flexibility then Nikons and Canon, for that reason seems to be the choice of today's pro and serious photographers who don't want to miss out on any video or photo ops...Both are technically far superior to the so called pro systems of just a few years ago...

  • @Vikingdescendent

Pros tend to use full frame cameras rather than these 'crippled' sensors

  • @asjeot

I would pick more video options over a full frame sensor. But that's my choice. That's one of the reasons I own a 60D.

I said Canon, not the 60D seems to be the choice of today's pro who now are adding video to their workload. Both Nikons and the Canons are great choices.

  • 60d is cheaper should consider this as a main factor for purchasing

  • dslr very very slow return investment....

  • 5:06 he mis-says "7D" twice

  • I own the 60D and the D7000 I prefer the 60D over all :]

  • The D7000 is exceedingly hard to purchase here in the USA, however I was able to find "one" about 3 weeks before Christmas and immediately snapped it up for my wife. We have purchased it for it's still photo capacities . . . . not for video. We find it to have "the best of both worlds" when it comes to having practically all of the "pro features" as well as all of the "amateur-consumer oriented features". On the "pro" side, we have found the ISO6400 to be VERY clean.

  • D7000!!!!!!!!!! _l_ _l_ _l_

  • canon is better.no questions asked.

    whos with me!

  • @ArribaChicago I got a 7D so I'd agree if it was D7000 vs 7D :) Unfortunately the 60D is a non starter for me. The flip out screen is about its best feature. For owner upgrading from Rebels or a T1i, its great, but its no competition for a D7000, which is a serious camera like the 7D.

  • @ArribaChicago You said it!

  • 7d is much better.

sorry but digitalrev did the test... or the video back in 2010 :D

  • @Alaev100

yes it is better. cuz its 400 dollars more.

  • @Ben1257sb its 40$ more not 400$ lol :)

  • @Alaev100

everywhere I am looking, the d7000 is 1200 and the 7d is 1600 dollars. Find me a 7D for 1240 and I will buy i cuz I can't find one ANYWHERE

  • @Ben1257sb and any way here were i live. the d7000 is 60$ more expansive then the 7D. i got a 7d. and now my goal is to wait for 5dmk3. or any good HD DSLR with a FF sensor made by canon. ;)

  • I don't think the 60D was intended to compete with the D7000.

  • @ByBleeker yet many thousands of people have been querying which is preferable - hence this test

  • @ByBleeker yet many thousands of people have been querying which is preferable - hence this test

  • @WhatDigitalCamera d7000 vs d300s?

  • @ByBleeker It was intended to DIRECTLY compete with the D7000. That's from Canon itself.

  • @ByBleeker Gotto agree there... The 60D was toned down, while the D7000 was a step up from the D90...

  • @ByBleeker

    lool

I would still buy the 60D for the better video function !!!! that's a big difference !!

both has the same autofocus cross type points, and both has fast shutter speeds.

also I always would go to canon for after purchase education they offer, and also the Canon 60D is way simpler than the Nikon !!!!! biiiiiiiiig difference.

at the end it would remain a point of view. alright ?! have a nice day

  • @ByBleeker

oh sorry I forgot about the tilting screen as well !!! big bonus to me

  • the 7d?

  • @coredown Slight slip of tongue stating '7D' at the end there! Annotation added. I think a D7000 vs 7D test would be a very close-run test that'd be far harder to call.

  • @WhatDigitalCamera the 7D competes with the D300S. They're both the last models before the Full Frame camera lineup.

  • @WhatDigitalCamera Well as a film maker and investigative reporter I'll take the 60D to supplement my SX20 IS superzoom over the Nikon any day.... the vari-angle viewer is indispensable.

  • @coredown

in Jpn used 7d is only US$50-100 more expensive than used d7000

used 60d is US$100-150 cheaper than used d7000
