The basic differemce is, In 'sati' wife knows that her husband is no more and she enters in fire eith her husband's dead body or anything of her hubby.
But In Jauhar, she don't knows that whether her husband will be alive or not.
there was no sati before the muslim invasion, princess padmini was the first princess to commit sati, because she chose death before dishonor and burnt herself, but later it became a tradition where rajputs would want their wives to commit sati(which was wrong)
