It's like that because he was originally standing on a cross in the original japanese version. When 4Kids dubbed the series they removed eveything Jpanese and did a lot of major edits. They removed all crosses because it was related to religion. This includes Zakuro's crosswhip(Which in turn ended up looking like a stick), Zakuro's necklace, and yes the cross that Kisshu was standing on. They edited these frame by frame so they must have missed a frame while editing.

@keyblade19961 For a split second, just a few frames at most, the cross the character is standing on (pointed) is completely flat. It's just a rectangle for a moment, it might have been a base shape that the cross-point was originally drawn from.

That's the kind of unpolished flaw that is expected to be fixed, especially when you're a name as big (in your area, at least) as 4Kids looking over it for the second time.
