I definitely DO remember years ago a "yankees, yankees, YOU SUCK" chant at a game against, I think, New Jersey, and I think it may have been against the refs. Been years ago, but it has happened. As for calling the fans around here fair-weather, that's a bit of a stretch. I grew up a redwings fan, before the hurricanes were here. But I've seen the area TRULY come to love the canes, and one of the reasons it's so loud during the regular season is that it's in a big city on a college campus.

You also need to realize that you're comparing Boston to NC. Boston is in the Northeast where hockey is very popular, versus NC in the Southeast where hockey is still gaining in popularity. I am very proud of the Hurricanes (as I am a resident of Raleigh) and watch their games "religiously." I don't think that the stands being full or not has anything to do with fair weather fans.

It would be odd to say anything negative about 'Yankees' since over half the audience are transplants and most from up North. For the southerners that are Carolina fans there is great respect for the Hurricanes knowing they come from Connecticut. I have not seen any North/South controversy from Hurricane Fans.
