Since you're amazing, could you try and cover "Bounincing in a Bottomless pit" from Fredrik Thordendal's Special Defects - Sol Niger, or a montauge of all the solos.. anyways, THIS Video was Awesome and I must go practice to feel better lol
You sound just like him! I've seen so many attempts and no one has his magic but you. And I thought you were good enough when I saw you master Marty Friedman! I want to hear your own songs because you are easily one of the most polished guitarists to upload a video on this site.
Still around 75% speed on getting this solo down (yeah my sloppy videos say otherwise that I can possibly do this solo but take this with a grain of salt). But the damn sweeping at the end I can't seem to get because my brain really really really wants to go back up the arpeggio instead of starting from the E string again. Sick chops man, college takes a lot of my time so my chops are lacking recently. I hope to find some more time since I love playing. (just can't play well for youtube haha)
@cowcrusher you don't have to sweep at the end of the solo, thats not how it actually sounds on the song, either. that end part is actually tapped, but Nolly chose to show off =p
@METALLICA6547 lol he's doing sweeps and tapping on an RG-style flat radius shred guitar at a pretty brisk speed and you say he's not shredding. Come on, man. I don't know what else to say but come the fuck on.
Shredding sucks because it distracts a very large number of guitarists from song writing.
@signinname41 if thats shreding then maybe you just cant play fast, thats mid tempo soloing at best,im not saying i dislike it,their my fav band, but in my opinion shreding is what slayer does on every solo, the solo's in children of bodom fast shit, the style of guitar doesnt mater,i can shred on an acoustic for that matter, yngwie is a shreder this solo isnt shreding, and thats all i have to say
@METALLICA6547 The solo from "South of Heaven", just as an example, isn't radically different from this in terms of technical chops or speed. This solo contains a lot of large intervals which is why it's slower. Do you think playing a single note really fast is shredding? The notes matter as well.
Flat radii, jumbo frets and thin necks facilitate fast playing. That's why shredding wasn't that big in the early days of rock n roll when guitars had small radii, small frets and fat necks.
this video helped decide to try the rebel yell in my Ibanez RG7CT 7 string. I finally got it installed this past weekend and it sounds great. Like a tighter version of an Alnico Nailbomb. thanks recommending this Nolly!
Hey man what bare knuckle would you choose for a 7 string for a guy who likes to play Vai, Gilbert, Petrucci, Satch, and jazz fusion (such as guthrie govan and tom quayle)
A few people have told me holy divers but you seem to have tons of different BKPs and have tested thema ll on your same rig.
Hey Nolly, thanks for huge help you've gave me choosing the rebel yell! One more question, I'm looking for neck pickup to match. I'd love the painkiller neck from what I've heard from clips and descriptions, but would it match the rebel yell. Would it be to hot for it. If not what could you recommend to be similar. Again, thanks for the help Nollster!
Yep, I think the Painkiller would be a bit on the hot side. If you want a pickup with similar (if not more) definition, check out the Riff Raff. You'll have to work a bit harder because of the lower output, but the payoff is extreme clarity, dynamic response and open voicing. It'll be unforgiving, but you'll be a better player for it.
mate just wanted to ask which neck pickup is best for articulate sweep picking+- juicy neck leads- VH2 /NB or RY? I like the snappy nature of the nailbomb but am very intrigued by the VHII neck. (already have a CS,MM,PK neck).
@Ocelot911 The Painkiller is alot more aggressive, with this crazy upper mid snarl. The Rebel Yell isn't as hot or angry, but it's warmer and juicier for leads. It's incredible versatile too, which isn't the PK's strong suit.
I see you're in the US, so search google for a guitar shop called The Axe Palace in Boston - they are Bareknuckle dealers who sell on much cheaper than it would work out if you imported a set direct from BKP.
@Nollythegreat I found a set of 'WarPigs' for 299. I'm pretty sure that what's i'll invest in. And dude, I want a blackmachine guitar so bad, but apparently there is like a multi-year waiting list. Lame. Anyway, you are a bad ass! Take it easy man and thanks for the response. I appreciate it!

Hey Nolls!
I just bought an old Ibby RGA121 mahogany body with a thick maple cap. So my guess is its a bright guitar.
I trust your judgement entirely!
I LOVEEEE The tone your getting here.
I want a pick-up to fatten up this guitar but still be quite bright and very clear with a nice attack to play periphery shiz!
Would you recommend the rebel yell?
Or like a cold sweat?
JoshuaLoG1 1 year ago
No joke, I make it an everyday thing just to watch this video and hear that note on the 19th fret. Those pickups are nothing to fuck with.
How much would a pair of those cost me? I just got a pair of 81/85EMGS and personally I am extremely dissatisfied.

Hey dude, thanks! For this solo I'm using alot of economy and sweep picking. My advice would be not to overthink it, just use whichever technique suits what you're playing best for any given lick.

@SaintsOfSpaulding don't over think it, but practice both really hard so they can become automatic without over thinking it :)

thats one of the best covers of any Per solo in here. Best Phrasing anyways.
If you want to try other of his solos, go for:
Plain cool: Carved in stone (easier but extremely cool), Radiant Strain.
Phrasing: Deviate from the Form (you will love that), Detach from the outcome.
Complete awesome: Noumenon and Phenomenon, and my facorite, GHOST PROTOTYPE 1 (personal favorite =P)
