@KimamaLuyuLiluye Oh really.I love My Own Private Idaho so much.I have the movie but it doesn't have special features and deleted scenes on the disk:(....I love quoting that movie..."Bob Pigeon will sweat to death!!HAHAHAHA!!!"
The movie makes me sad though.I feel so bad for River Phoenix's character Mike.
True .... even I felt the same. River and holden really had a lot in common... River should have played the role of Holden Caulfield if a movie had been made based on the Catcher in the rye before 1993....
i think the film world would be in a total different state if he had of lived and maybe just maybe jd would have made this into a film if it starred river, people who compare actors like rob pattinson to river sicken me. The only actor i can think of who is comparable is heath and it's not because they both died of drugs they just seemed similar both too good for hollywood's bullshit.
This is amazing, the very first time i read cathcher in the rye i immediately pictured River. if it ever were a movie, he would have been perfect for it.
I always imagined Jake Gyllenhaal as Holden but I love the comparison to River. Can't believe I didn't see it before.
Think there's a link between Salinger's reluctance to sell the rights and the bit in "Catcher in the Rye" where Holden goes on about movies being fake?
the only way to have ever made catcher in to a movie would be with river phoenix as Holden, and terrence malick directing. maybe a young john cusack could have played holden
whatever. river phoenix is dead dude. paul dano as holden "after his excellent breakthrough performance in little miss sunshine and not to mention his followup work with there will be blood" and no other, and i mean no other director should touch it other than darren aronofsky. period.
I think Paul Dano is a great young actor. We haven't seen the best of him yet, but Holden was supposedly a good lookin' guy. I just can't picture Paul Dano in that role, as far as looks go. Talent - maybe... looks - nope, sorry.
haha, I thaught "God, wanna give theese nice guys a comment, but I have no account" and then I remembered that I was already logged in :)
I have read the book in German, English and Swedish. I love the book, it's such a releaf how much it can relate to yourself. I would also recommend "Rage" by Richard Bachman, wich is another of Stephen Kings pseudonymes.
wow, that was nice, but still I am glad, that they couldn't (yet) make a movie from the catche r in the rye... cause, no, they shouldn't, they are stupid- the movies... Holden, wow, I like him...
I don´t buy that J Deep killed him, come on, so you can put drugs into someone drink and the police won´t notice? Well where I come gfrom that could happen easily but not in USA I guess. Too bad he died like that, not a cool death at all. Catcher in the rye, what a book, Holden Caulfield is my hero and the fact that Salinger didn´t sell the rights, wow q
hy!Pls tell me a torrent or tracker from where i can download some movies with river wich i don't have:a night in life of jimmy reardon, dogfight,a thing called love!pls let a mesage here!ms
Hey people, i think it's time now to everybody know that this bastard Mr. Johnny Depp, gave money to some guys in his viper club to kill River Phoenix, for reasons of envy, heard something like johnny was envy of river because he was prettier and had more sucess, so this johnny depp looks a lot like those mexican mafia guys... anyway, this is true, believe it or not, river died because they put a high drug on his drink... very sad, i feel sorry River, johnny depp must die. enough said.
I guess it would be nice if you watched here, on youtube Last 24 Hours of River Phoenix, and it seems that he took the shot of drugs himself + he had personal reasons for that. If you watch it you will understand what they were. I guess Jonny Depp had nothing to do with it. This is just my opinion.
just make it a little bit slower. i wasn't able to catch the end of texts. it's a really good idea, though. holden and river have a lot in common in that they were in a way forced to handle the jobs that the adults couldn't. anyway, thanks for reminding catcher in the rye.
It does not matter how he died. It matters how he lived. People forgot his main message. this could be one of the reasons of his sorrow. He did not die from drugs he died from grief. River was the best. River of life is permanent. It changes all the time, but its flow never ends.
Yeah, River Phoenix passed away on Oct. 31, 1993 at 1:51 pm. He's 23 years old. It's very sad and heart broken that he'd pass away, I wish he's still alive today, but that wish won't be granted anymore... *cry*
hello I have searched and searched to try to find somewhere to buy a CD of this group, but with no luck, any ideas of an online site i could order it from? i dont seem to find any reference to 'Harmonia' as a group at all...
give me your e-mail or msn adress and I will send it to you. This is Georgian ensemble, that's why I doubt you can find it. I am happy if you liked it.
Poem by Georgian poet Galaktion Tabidze, translated into english by me,i will post it in several parts. PART 1: Always when the wind starts to blow , and when it flies over woody mountains like a sail The white army of poplar leaves, Will rustle like the distant tale. The tale makes me feel drunk The tale makes me feel charmed, with drinking of aged wine, without consciousness, sharply... Catching equally In the memories Somewhere lost roses and camomiles.
PART 2: This was long before,a long time before. Where, when, and what for, no I do not know! Once they were in world and then fell asleep... The ordered arch of leaves is restless ,troubled. After that the fate and the sail were bent by wind's heaviness... Were are you so long? For what or with whom, no I do not know!
The music is performed by Georgian trio "Harmonia"- the song is called "verkhvis fotolTa tetri lashkari"- that is if translated from Georgian means "White army of poplar leaves". The lyrics of the song belong to one of the most famous Georgian poets Galaktion Tabidze. Believe me is you new this language you would be astounded by the force of this song.
if anytime , anyone will wish to know lyrics of this song, i will be happy to try translating it to you. Thanks all of you for commenting and for being so nice.

They referred to Catcher in the Rye a lot in the movie The Good Girl. I wonder if they needed Salinger's permission to do that.

what's a rye??? its not on the dictionary... well grain doesn't make sense.
pandalaft 4 years ago
Rye: 1. a widely cultivated cereal grass, Secale cereale, having one-nerved glumes and two- or three-flowered spikelets.
2. the seeds or grain of this plant, used for making flour and whiskey, and as a livestock feed.
I guess you have to read this novel by Salinger than it will make sense. cheers
