George jones is a man that sings about life. He sing from the Heart. When this man dies, he'll be sorrowly missed for no one else will/can replace this great man.
This song was the #1 single in '79 and '80 i believe. I don't think there ever was another song that stayed in that spot for so long. Does anyone know for sure?
did'nt the CMA rate this # 1alltime country song and tammies stand by your man #2 i may be wrong but i dont think so my main men kris johnny willie and waylon doin ' the cowboy song deserves to beup there too
@brian1958usgrant This is not only the all time most popular country song but it was accepted in 2008 by the National Recording Preservation Board, set up by the US Congress about 10 years earlier (see the description above). That is one of the highest honors that can be bestowed upon a recording. Thanks for writing, david
has to be one of the best songs ever. all i remember growing up in the 80's is my dad driving down the rode with his arm hanging out of the truck(even in the winter time) smoking a kool and blaring George Jones hits on the radio. this is what true country was all about. George is a big icon to me and truley inspires me! thanks George!!!

This is my favorite country song. Today's country music just doesn't have the same feeling to it. I miss the days of George Jones and Conway Twitty.
