To the question of whether officers are required to wear seat belts, the answer is not at all times. But it's important to note that police are not exempt from wearing seat belts just because they're on duty.

I have been giving COUNTLESS tickets from southgate and always catch them breaking the law and getting away with it.. I have now armed my car with legal (in the state of michigan) laser gun jammers.. radar detectors and anti reflective coating on lights to help save me from speeding tickets.

This is indeed an ethics problem. But, in my experience, an officer who chose to wear his seatbelt. He got into a situation where he needed to bail out quickly. He was able to unbuckle, but was caught up on the belt and shut the door. His partner drove off after the subject dragging his partner at a high rate of speed. understand officers sometimes choose not to wear it because they may need to one day bail out of their vehicle, draw their gun, and save your life or theirs. every second counts.
