  • Strock it babey

  • This is VERY helpful! Thanks!

  • outside,try it outside....does it work OUTSIDE?

  • Does this mic fit on the nikon d3100

  • Even the T2i internal mic produced less hiss and better low's than Audio Technica. Rode is the way to go.

  • Is the song in the backround House of the Rising Sun?

  • Nice Video!

  • 10:53 If you really want to use correct vocab you'd say the mic has a -10db pad and a -20db pad. You would use a -20db pad if you were near a speaker at a concert ;) or needed to get a short lens tight shot with loud shouting etc...lots of uses

  • Some vocabulary help for you :) No one really says decibels we say DB. It's not Audio TechnEEEca 6:22 It's Audio Technica 7:58. FYI The Rode mic does not give "actual stereo sound" because it is a single condenser microphone sending the same signal to both the right and the left channel. All shotgun microphones should be mono. Some single condenser shotgun microphones are "stereo" for the benefit of the consumer. A true stereo microphone must have 2 condensers sending 2 different signals

  • @michael1980123 Oh sorry I missed the "on" I understand now

  • @michael1980123 Is that sarcasm? Because either way it seems extreamly irrelevant and somewhat confusing. I'm assuming by "amateur youtube" you mean "amateur YouTuber".

  • Holy shit!!! An amateur on youtube knows the difference between cardioid and super cardioid!!!

  • Hahaha very nice review... Greetings from Venezuela!! Very helpfull!!

  • So I have read, if you use an extension on a mic, it creates more noise, how much would it affect the sound using these mics?

  • Its called RØDE

  • jesus , just get to the fucking tests

  • i got the audio tech but it sounds bad. the built in mic sounds better. the audio tech sounds veeeeery low and has background hissing noise. could it be the battery it came with??? :'(

  • After research i finally bought ATR 6550 and i may tell it was good choice.

Lack of shockmount causes that the mic catches camera`s internal noise while zooming so i had to make my own grip using pipe and some rubbers - works like charm. (i`m filming with GZ-HM1)

But what could be an issue, is also a advantage in some conditions. This mic is perfect for mounting to a boompole which i reckon you`ll find difficult with rode. It`s deatachable if u prefer to hold it in your hands.

  • So your a bad version of Filmroit

  • @FructusSum thats what i was thinking!

  • Play the fuking samples U fat clown. U don't even go outside 2 test the stereo separation. U-Boob is such a magnet 4 retards.

  • You're so awkward. I love it.

  • @ecbfilms002 Is hard remembering so many lines yah know haha

  • the atr 6550 was much better

  • Lol... I love these videos..

    Ok.. people..

The idea of a shot gun mic is to REDUCE room echo. I own the Rode Video Mic and it AMPLIFIES it like a beast. They should call it the 'room echo mic' because that's what it does..

Listen carefully for echo with both mics and see what one is doing its job.

  • @DietAndRecipes I'm not saying I don't agree that there is terrible echo... But the shot-gun mics job is not to "REDUCE room echo" its to pinpoint a subjects sound only pick that sound up... which in part would mean removing room echo but thats a more correct description.

  • @ModernFilmFX I made a video for you here: /watch?v=v-7E_82CCR4&hd=1

You'll see how great the ATR6550 is. I researched deep into it, and it turns out it's a 'super cardiod' pattern which is even more aggressive than hyper cardioid. You'll also see that you can record in the Canon's and get 'acceptable results', but the Zoom H1 sucks so I'm going to have to go through the long process of trying out the Yamaha and Tascam slim units. The H1 auto gain is for recording meetings, not live field work

  • I really appreciate the comparison guys, you saved me a lot more time. However, I would have liked to hear a bit more pertaining to the lack of "actual stereo" on the Audio-technica mic..

  • @mminto86 not much to say about it but thanks alot for your input!! :)

  • thanks dude you helped me to decide which one to buy :)

  • @SaFrazzle I'm glad to hear I finally helped someone haha

  • @ModernFilmFX lol

  • audio technica, horrible hiss

  • @hotgypsylips Hey is it with all audio technica gear, or just the condenser mics. i've been wanting to get a lavaliere and audio technica seems to be the cheapest.

  • @scheitster I got the wireless lavaliere mic. My input eventually broke and is now 'crackly'. I would recommend the Pyle instead because it has a gain control That is very important on these mics.. I think it was Pyle..

  • @hotgypsylips Rode Video mic.. horrible room echo

  • I want a mic that can really block out the background noise, so im gunna link up the times so i can compare the mics back to back.

    Rhode 7:40

    Audio Technica 8:21

    Normal Mic 9:26

  • It seems that Audio-Technica ATR-6550 is the better choice, the only problem being the noise it picks up...

  • @ModernFilmFX Hi very nice video! Can you please tell me what video camera you use, thanks! ;D

  • @LastSurvivorOfKandor Canon T2i I'm really sorry for the late reply I didn't see your comment before

  • does this mic work with the canon vixia hfs200 and does the agc mess the audio? thanks

  • @HMONGMADEFILM probs the audio technica.. its better for what you pay but the rode mic has 1.25x better quality for 2x the price

  • i subbed :D

  • @graffitiskater111 sick :D

  • do you know if the audio technica microphone will work with a sanyo vpc-hd100 camcorder?

  • @skyfire257 no idea just look it up on google you should be able to find it quite easily i dont know much about consumer level camcorders as to there compatibility

  • Hey where did you buy that painting in the background?

  • @techmaster8 its from a local artist Brenda Desjardins she ship worldwide though :D her website is ArtoftheGardens (.) com

  • @GanEdenAustralia hah kk

  • Thanks man! I was looking at at ATR 6550 for a mic and you gave me good audio tests and a good comparison. Much appreciated

  • @RainMistProductions no problem and thank you! :)

    ~Kian

  • @ModernFilmFX YOU KNOW WHAT IM NOT!

*clicks subscribe* dammit he's good at convincing,

  • @RainMistProductions lol people have said that before ;)

  • House of rising sun playing on the piano there?

Thanks' for the comparison, I really wanted to see this. I found the audio technica at a bit above $100 (equivalent) in my country, which seems a fair price to me. One more question: You gave the rode twice the points of the audio technica, but considering the price, is it really double the microphone?

  • @TheSerb134 yup it sure is ;)

and yah the mic is really not worth its price go for the audio-technika! im kinda kickin myself now for getting it

  • @TheSerb134 the audio technica sucked...I would just spend the extra hundred dollars..

  • @mrwashur1991 you sir have no idea what you are talking about...

  • @ModernFilmFX uhh...yes I do..I can tell from my own ears that the audio technica (worth about 40-50 bucks) is obviously shittier than the rode video mic....you even gave it a higher score...

  • @mrwashur1991 the rode mic is 250$ for barely any better quality your completely wrong saying the AT is not worth it, for how cheap it is not to mention the ability to actually change out the mount and wind shield it is WAY!! more worth it!

  • @ModernFilmFX dude...the rode mic is 150 and I think the audio technica sounds like crap as it's nothing but treble...the rode picks up better and has a better tone...I think this is just bias and you should think about it...you get what you pay for and paying the 150 for something good is smarter than to spend a third of that price for another onboard mic..

  • @mrwashur1991 you mean your mommy would spend an extra hundred dollars

  • @hebon5 uhh guess again pal...youre probably like 12...I'm 20 and I am in college and I have a job so I pay for all my own shit...so that would be very incorrect...douchebag

  • What Video Editing Program are you using??

  • @IdioticCreations Sony Vegas Pro 10

  • do u know of a mic between these 2 price range and quality wise?

  • @iseecheese uhh i dont really know just look around the internet knows everything lol ;)

  • do u have to use a battery or does it have a power plug for ? you can easily cut off the wind cover then get another one that u can slide off & on, what is the model number of the rode mic? what is the distance range difference between the 2 mics?, when you do test the piano should be playing the same piece of music for a fair compare, what is the measurement length of each mic? can u take the shock mount off?

  • @iseecheese woah man thats loaded.... mosty of these questions are answered in the video ill answer the ones that weren't though the cover does not come of :(...no idea about model number distance is probly simlar audio-technika is a bit further though maybe like 15-20 feet... measurement specs should be online and no the flippin shock mount wont come off :(

  • I apologize if this is answered in the video, because I'm writing this before the video is over... Do you need to sync the video with the audio coming from either of these mics, or as long as it's connected to the camera you don't need to?

  • @usernamesareforfools its connected so there is no need to

  • Excellent information and good presentation . Recommending worth to watch it.

  • @rajivsood25 thanks :)

  • the Rode Videomic Pro has better Lows

  • @jaysenstudios i bet it does

  • @jaysenstudios I think the Rode mic has a HYPED low end, which isn't always desirable. I'd rather get a cleaner signal (from the AT) and add it in with some EQ in post, rather than have the hyped low end of the Rode. It's almost like a lot of proximity effect. Too boomy!

  • @vbluez agreed

  • mine came with a nine volt battery :)

  • @Trampathon lucky... :(

  • HOLY BALLS 700+ SUBSCRIBERS!!!!! and I will probablly get the Audio-Technica mic cause I have no job but need better sound quality in videos. the only thing is, will it work with the camera that I'm planning to buy? the Canon sx130 IS

  • @maxxdavis yah go for the audio technica how much is that cam your looking at??

  • @ModernFilmFX not 100% sure what it is, ive heard 200-450$

  • I need help. I bought an ATR6550 but it picks up a bunch of static no matter what setting it's on. I also have it plugged into a T2i. Any advice?

  • @JesseShotland if you are using FCP to edit, use the audio filters > Apple> AUGraphicEQ play with the settings and see how it works.

  • it sounds like you have something in your mouth when you talk, or you have a lisp. i donno ;)

  • @spencerduhbarrett Ohh sorry about that man yeah I gotta a lisp your actually the dirt person t notice it/say something about in my 4 years on YouTube :)

  • @spencerduhbarrett LOL!!! sry man I was typing I didn't mean to say dirt I meant first and the t is supposed to me to

  • @ModernFilmFX haha yeah when are you gonna make an actual film if you know so much. and how do you afford all the equipment

  • @spencerduhbarrett uhh i do actual films every week on my other channel LotsaEntertainment but if you mean feature length when i move out and have money and time with out school. and I do Commercials for different companys for my money and graphics design

  • are you high?

  • @jimmy78yo lol probly not

  • @ModernFilmFX hmm. probably...

  • audio technica wins in my opinion

and I think you're wrong about the rode with the sound quality rating as I listened to it a lot and I thought it was kinda fuzzy (possibly just the settings used at the time though)

the built in mic isn't pointed so it picked up the music way more and it almost completely drowned out your voice.

    still a great episode.

  • @hobocamptheater when the Rode mic is set to its -10db setting it preforms amazingly better but i do understand where your coming from but the atr-6650 is a lot more tinny if u listen but i do respect your opinion thanks for watching :)

  • Do like SoldierKnowsBest, skip all the boring junk, pack in a bunch of details and "Did You Know's" then show the product, the price, the principals. Then finish up in under 4 minutes. You've got good stuff but aiming at people to be so interested with a product that they'd spend 14 minutes looking at it is not gonna happen.

  • @TheTrueSong you do like soldierknowsbest lol .... i guess he does know best

  • @ModernFilmFX Yah lol I rely on him for all the new gadgets and devices... You have a really good video, but people are stupid. That's why Justin Bieber's famous... You have to aim at the youtube audience. Grab their attention and don't let go. I like how your doing very specific items though, not many people review items like this in detail. Normally it's all Apple gear...

  • @TheTrueSong That is not necessarily true. The sort of people who would watch a show for information would rather spend 14 minutes getting more facts than spend 4 not getting all the facts about something. Not to mention that this particular video features two mics meaning it's actually more like 2, 7 minute videos.

  • @monkitman Yea that is true... But still, the attention span of a person now-a-days is growing weaker. It's a great video and everything, but you've got to take into account the fact that there's a related videos section and lots of people just don't have too much time on their hands. They see a 4 minute video on the same item and there gone.

  • You guys are doing a good job. Let's collaborate on some videos together. I just launched a Youtube channel to help DSLR Filmmakers out. Look up "FilmDogPro"

  • @JoshuaBeeLoved thanks yeah i checked out your vids last time u posted it on my channel...

  • i use sennheiser me66

  • @unprofessionalvids Nice!!! thats pretty pro for unproffesionalvids lol

  • @ModernFilmFX It's just the gear man... My work doesn't hold a candle to yours!

  • can these be used as stand alone mics? like for recording straight to your computer

  • @mrturbopanzer1 yeah

  • Comment removed

  • your color corrections make it look like you should be driving around in a green van...(inside joke ;)) lol you look ill

  • @OverclockersHQ sry...

  • @ModernFilmFX don't be its not bad I just wanted to use that joke today...hes has been gone too long...

  • @KanYeezyWeezyDrizzy Rode said that their product will be available in stores at the end of January -> 31st Im also waiting for it :) I hope it's true ;)

  • @KillmanAUSTRIA Yes, hopefully it will be out by then. I am a big fan of Rode and I'm debating whether or not to use the NTG3 for a feature film we are shooting this summer on RED gear and Canon 7D.

  • @ModernFilmFX are there two microphones under the wind shield then? i would have just thought it was one microphone with the same mono output on both the R and L stereo output

  • @willsnook its just that the jacks stereo ;)

  • Not sure if you know yet, but Rode will be releasing the Rode VideoMic PRO with broadcast audio quality.

  • @JoshuaBeeLoved yeah im stoked for it :)

  • with the rode microphone it will be a mono 3.5mm jack, not stereo.

  • @willsnook actually no it wont.... it will be stereo...

  • please do an episode on prop guns. those r always fun

  • @champjb25 lol maybe :)

contact us at FilmFXRequests@gmail.com if you want to send in a request

  • THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! (first)

  • @champjb25 no Thank YOU!!! ;D

    also congrats on first
