Ron Paul lied here. The Constitution does NOT require a gold standard. Article I, Section 10 says, "No STATE [emphasis added] shall...make any Thing but gold and silver Coin a Tender in Payment of Debts..." There is no such restriction on the federal government anywhere in the Constitution. Sadly, Maria Barteromo did not call him on this, perhaps not knowing the facts herself.

We are at a crisis stage in America and the world, the final clash of two opposing schools of thought: Keynesian and Austrian Economics. The Federal Reserve is a child of Keynesianism, a printing press responsible for weakening free markets, inflating govt and money and the boom/bust cycle. Austrian economists believe in money backed by commodity which RESTRICTS the scope of govt and empowers free market operation. Read 'What Has Government Done to Our Money?' for a clear picture of the Fed.
Dr Paul is not our President because of the zombies. "markets are pretty smart", LOL, does he know there used to be a housing market? Why cant anyone see that the reason the United States' free market economy is successful is because ultimately, its based on a sytem of oversights, and balanced by regulations to avoid bubbles and crashes?
@stupidjonny We don't have a free market. There already was "oversight" and "regulation" and it still crashed. The federal reserve is not part of the free market.
@3rdEchel0n you are right we dont have a totally free market, the closest we ever came to that was in the late 1920's and it didnt work out so well, there has to be balance so every one can compete and participate, without regulation, there isnt an level playing field, so the markets would be controlled by just a few very rich individuals, kinda like communist china, so I guess if thats what you want go for it!
@stupidjonny "the closest we ever came to that was in the late 1920's"
Nope, wrong.
The Federal Reserve was established in 1913, so the "late 1920s" were no where near a free market. Hoover was actively "stimulating", and that is what caused the crash of 1929.
You should watch "Why haven't you heard of the great depression of 1921?"
/watch?v=czcUmnsprQI
and "Martin van Buren: What Greatness Really Means"
/watch?v=rcbAZCaG_Ck
The more you really look, the more you see govt causes the problems.
@CurtHowland the "fed" as we know it now has been around since Madison was in office, it was called the Second National Bank back then, then when he was elected, Andrew Jackson actually dismantled it, then a cople of years later there was wild speculation leading to the panic of 1837, im just saying that the american system has always kept a balance, thats why it works, when we shift the balance, things go wrong, at least thats what history shows us.
@stupidjonny You're not listening. 1837 was a deflation caused by the Bank of England calling in its loans.
"im just saying"
Yes, I know you're "just saying", and you are utterly, terribly, and now deliberately, wrong.
The "American System" has caused boom-bust cycles since it was instituted by Hamilton, and the experience of recessions in 1795 and 1819 were, just like 1921 and 1929, caused by the "American System".
@3rdEchel0n A free market can have regulations especialy where exernalities exist. We need government to regulate bankruptcy laws and regulate the administration of government. We are drowning in regulations though.
@joepeeler34 Yes, I do agree with that, but enforcing bankruptcy laws is not really what I was referring to when I said regulations, seeing how that word has a more "popular usage" sort of definition now. The laws to enforce bankruptcy and enforce contracts are already on the books, they just need to actually be enforced.
@stupidjonny Wow... Fannie and Freddie had tons of oversight but Barny Frank and the others who had the job of oversight forced them to accept the liar loans and other frauds under thier AAA rating is one of the major components that crashed the system. heh... Who's watching the watchmen?
The US free market is successful because it's based on fraud theft and military plunder of oil fields.
@russkeller There is no free market in the U.S. We have had a mixed economy with much socialism and corporatism for many decades now. A free market doesn't have fiat money, a Federal Reserve, sbusidies, mandates, public-private parnterships, etc. Calling our economy free market is about as accurate as me identifying this keypad I am typing on as a beachball.
@stupidjonny Think of the terms "markets" and "free markets" as the nature/force of markets. You can never change their nature, but you can attempt to steer them by implementing regulations and economic interventions. Ultimately, these regulation always have "unintended negative consequences", and the nature of markets is to expel these negative aspects, which means going through a correction. That's when "markets are pretty smart": Markets will correct the frequent mistakes of their regulators.
@stupidjonny There is still a housing market. The housing market was a creation of excesssive credit creation by the Fed and govt. subsidies. They took interest rates well below theri natural rates. Free market interest rates would be driven by the supply of savigns and the demand for credit. American's net savings rate for the last 10 years has been close to zero. The real credit to finance all of that borrowing wouldn't have been there absent the Fed.
@Nothingizm Ron Paul has 2 official YT channels. He went up against the entire Republican party establishment in '08 knowing full well that it doomed any chance of him becoming president.
@StopFear no way. most politicians are liars who flip flop/change their stories or positions around to gain votes/popularity.
Ron Paul has been consistent in his positions and you can clearly see he cannot be bought out by the corporations/banks like the others. he also does not care what the other congressmen thinks of him.
he is a man who can speak and think on his own, and that's what we need right now. not a coward like Obama who caves in to everything and gets little done.
@joepeeler34 "individuals get to choose their own favored currencies"
All the Constitution does is allow Congress to define what a "dollar" is, in gold, silver, or both.
Both (bi-metalism) is a mistake, because it assumes static exchange rates. Same thing that brought down Long Term Capital Management.
If Congress defines a "dollar" as 1 oz silver, and leaves it at that, then market exchange will price all other "currencies" in that denomination, just like now.
I understand that the fed needs to end, however, what exactly might happen to the world economy after reform? Will we have a recession while the reform occurs? What should the average citizen expect as consequences? I should probably read Dr. Paul's book.

@ExhibitMan because people are drinking too much fluoride in their water and they have had way too many vaccines containing mercury. People have no more common sense in this country anymore.
@ExhibitMan they are selected not elected by the FED - America can make all the laws they want usually against individuals freedoms. They have all the money = media = resources = Federal Reserve.
Yea, Basically ANYONE who HATES the Constitutional Limitations placed on the scope and power of the Federal Gov't LOVES the Fed because Inflation is the most sneaky tax and the best way to screw the taxpayers into paying for Congressional Cronyism to "Special Interests" including "Greens", Unions, Corporations and the Military-Industrial Complex.
Many Progressive traitors WANT to collapse American to redistribute money and jobs overseas for "social justice".
What a difference from only one year ago. Now when Ron Paul speaks, the media hosts (many of them) are listening and not acting like they know everything. I think they're starting to realize they've been losing their war against reality and now they're just hoping to get some straight answers.
@mjhonsun Yes, Ron's committee post in the House guarantees that he gets a lot more media attention. Even if they try to dismiss him, he still wins because his ideas get out there. I rather hope that the media and govt. goes after him hard because that will engender more support for him because no one in his right mind trusts the govt. or its apologists in the media.
@mjhonsun This is the kind of respect he got before he ran for President and the pundants were told to ridicule him to make sure he couldn't be elected.
@kenjams We have been as a country essentially accepted or volunteered into a high tech form of indentured servitude. Substance was taken out of commerce in the United States in 1933, Congress and the Senate mandated that the United States would become the constitutor of all public debt. Does the US constitute your debt, are you volunteering into bankruptcy and servitude ?
Love that guy. He would had my vote if I was an american.

It's not like lots of other central banks haven't been abolished in history, just look what happened.
Sure it hurt, but if the correction is allowed to happen the liquidation of malinvestment is swift and recovery strong. Like 1819, 1836, 1921.
It is intervention which caused the long-term disasters of 1929-46, 1971-82, and 1999-now.

Dr. Paul is right on.
100 Years is long enough for this private cartel to control us through our money.

I would pay $40 Pay-Per View to see a Schiff vs Krugman debate...if, the winner got to determine the outcome of the Fed...
Either way...I win...got alot of money transfered to commodities, if the Fed wants to print...print away...
