Hydraulics were first used on a Kustom Corvette called X-Sonic in 59/60. The early lowriders shortly after would get hydraulic parts from aircraft surplus stores that were originally used on airplane landing gear. Another source of early Hydro setups were truck hydraulic lift gates. Usually those were "picked" if you know what I mean.

incorrect it started in San Diego, in 1969 . Two of my friends had a 54 ford with hydralics all the way around, and there was 2 in my hood. One in Chula Vista and the other one in Imperial Beach.

Hydraulics were first used on a Kustom Corvette called X-Sonic in 59/60. The early lowriders shortly after would get hydraulic parts from aircraft surplus stores that were originally used on airplane landing gear. Another source of early Hydro setups were truck hydraulic lift gates. Usually those were "picked" if you know what I mean.

Zootsuiters would use cement blocks and metal weights to lower their cars. El Paso Texas or better known by the zootsuiters as "Chuco" (where the name Pachuco originated from) can be attributed to having proof of pictures showing the first lowriders.

If you were to ask a zootsuiter in Texas back in the day where they were going to party at this weekend, the answer would be Pa-Chuco (in El Paso). San Jose and Whittier were in the forefront in the 70s for what is now known as the modern lowrider but both cannot claim they are the birthplace.

I would like to get a 1959 Impala with a bumper kit and safety stars with a full chromed out undercarriage with hydraulics. I've been hearing from law enforcement that hydraulics are on the verge of being legalized!! For me lowriders and custom automotive hydraulics have always been more than legal but more like a life virtue ....... you know like a rite of passage kind of thing. El Norte is suave too!!
