I Don't Understand Why These Job Still Exist, You Need To Be a Complete Moron To Work In The Helpdesk, Dealing With Idiots all Day Long, In This Day In Age, Everybody Should Know How To Troubleshoot Their Own Computers......This Job Sucks Ass.
@urdynamix1 That's like saying we don't need mechanics. People can drive a car for 20 years and still not now how to do basic stuff like check the oil or change a tire. Same thing with computers. People can use them for the tasks the want or need for as long as they like but unless they take the time to actually educate themselves they will never fully understand. Along with the fact that some things are quite complicated, I'm not talking about the monitor not being turned on here.
I had one of these IT Support tickets just two months ago. the customer called me and told me that the computer didn't work - I drove out to the customer and just pressed the button and then left with a laugh xD
I got a call once off some guy who asked "I want to cancel my Internet" anyway we had to ask why when filling out the form and he said "because I have seen all of the internet I don't know why people pay money for this it never changes" so I was confused and asked for more details and he said "it just says Page Cannot Be Displayed all day" I was going to help him but it was nearing the end of the day and had little patience or energy so cancelled it as he requested :)
what would have been better is to never tell the cust that it's not a cup holder. Then he would have probably spilled coffee in it, fried the MoBo, and bought a Mac like he should have in the first place. I've been working tech support for 2 years and although I've never received the fabled "cup holder" call. EVERY SINGLE DAY I get people who don't know what My Computer or a Desktop is.
Every hd technicians dream would be to tell a [L]user to jump off a bridge.
"which browser are you using please? IE or Firefox?" "Whats a browser???????"
WTF?!?!?!?!?!?!
I watch The IT Crowd and jus feel like saying the same thing. Have you tried turning it off and on again? Then going for a really long smoke break until 5 mins before shifts done
Loads of IT companies know that trick I have a good one you get a mate to dial your extension and that drops you to the bottom of the que no 1 min before knock off and then get a 6 hour call
Back in the old days when we used floppy disks, we got this one more than once:
We would need to check out the disk media for whatever reason, usually a bad sector read problem and we would ask the user if they could send us a copy of their disk' They would send a photocopy of their floppy.
It's really interesting to work with stupid people.. haha

25 years in IT support drove me insane!
We had three stock User questions:
3. Is there paper in the printer?
2. Is your computer/monitor/printer connected to your printer/monitor/computer?
1. Is your computer/printer/monitor turned on?
These three would cover an unbelievable amount of calls.
