Just ask Bobby Brown who is Teddy Riley and you"ll get the picture,Black Girl 90's girl,'Eternal,SWV,Big Bud,Mary J.B. Michael Jackson and so many. I love NJS
Did all the decent producers from those days retire? I just wonder whether they are having to change their names and bore themselves to death producing new trash or whether they have given up their careers? Surely if they dropped a dope cut like this today it would at least sell in droves to the older generation that grew up on this and are missing it like hell. I don't buy music nowadays but a return to oldskool r&b and hiphop would get me splashing the cash.
Darryl Simmons was another great producer of the 90's. He produced for Monica, Brandy, Aaliyah, and many others. But indeed R. Kelly, Babyface, Dallas Austin (90's Dallas), and of course Teddy Riley were the bomb. 90's music was the 'it' period.
Look at how Coko looks here: she was physically and sexually "skinny-thick". That sexy jawline she had here too. For all the pervs, ya know what that means!!
oH shit I forgot about this remix. I was going to school upstate NY and they were bumpin the fuck out of this remix on WRPI, 88.3, among a couple of other R&B stations at the time.
teddy riley, devante swing and r.kelly are my favourite r&b producers of all time and swv, jodeci and boyz ii men are favourte r&b groups of all time. miss the 90's
@freshstef2k7 good line-up, i would add Jimmy Jam & terry lewis and Face & Reid, sick producers as well. not to mention DJ Quik, even though he comes from the G-Funk era, dude could produce some pretty dope r'n'b cuts as well.
Producers like Teddy Riley and Devante Swing and Brian Alexander Morgan had that Roger Troutman/ George Clinton/ Bootsy Collins touch. They were so funky. We need them back on the scene.
Not familiar with Mr Morgan, forgive my ignorance but who or what did he produce? This track had so many remixes. I had about 3, one of which was this one. No two versions of this song are the same, I'm still discovering more on Ytube! Classic track, T.Riley at his best. Really beginning to miss the 90s especially R&B/swingbeat@ its peak.
@AcousticUplift Brian Alexander Morgan was SWV's main producer who wrote/produced this song, and Weak, Right Here, Always on My Mind (male vocal also),Fine Time, Rain. There might be more, I forget. I know that he did Crazy on Usher's first album. I can't remember anything else he did.
Thanks for the info. The 90s were indeed full of talented producers both sides of the Atlantic, each with their hallmark sound. It added to the diversity which is sadly missing in today's mainstream music. I don't even like listening to what passes as R&B these days. The halcyon era has gone.
@AcousticUplift Agree. I loved what came out from the UK. At the start of the 90s DMob/Cathy Dennis, Lisa Stansfield, Soul II Soul came out. Teddy Riley also worked with Boy George. TR was making head way during that time, and wasn't at the peak of his popularity.
There were also a lot of quality British and European producers who worked with artists from both sides of the pond. Soulshock & Karlin, Stargate, Linsee and Ignorants come to mind...not sure whats happened to them all. It was a very good time for producers. Only Timbaland really remains from that golden R&B/swing era who is still doing interesting things. Can't speak for R.Kelly as I'm out of the loop. I never hear of what T.Riley, Babyface, Dallas K.Sweat, Trackmasters etc are doing these days.
@AcousticUplift Loved Soulshock & Karlin. It's hard to keep up with all those producers because the quality of music played on the charts have really tanked. There was a song that came out with Kristina DeBarge that was produced by Babyface, and I did not like it at all. Pretty girl though.
@macksboy87 Aaah yes my friend had that Lalah CD in college. I got Coko's first CD, but it got jacked real soon and never really got a chance to listen to it. I will need to get a replacement or see if my friend can dub me a copy. BAM also had vocals too. It's too bad he didn't showcase that more.
Dallas Austin was awesome too and Gene Griffin and DJ Eddie F. and Prince Markie Dee and ... damn so many talented producers in the 90's, i miss these days so much !
This version should have made the SWV Remix album. Not to take anything away from the Allstars Drop Check Dance version but I was disappointed to hear that one over this one.
Styln had it but doesnt anymore;-( if anyone got it, plz post. Id kill to see dem in those funky black outfits again wit those black combat boots lol dey look so fly
