are you using an external sequencing hardware to sequence this keyboard? or is it sample & hold? either way do you know of a really good hardware sequencer? with midi of course
hey man do you know there' s an amazing JX3P Upgrade kit avaible at Kiwitechnics . gives all the new functions that new synth have ( portamento , 2 nd LFO , better enveloppes, arpeggio , trancegate , full sysex and MIDI CC control .. . and so on
I have a problem with my JX-3p but maybe im no using it the right way when i want t record a sequence i push on the write button then i play on the the piano then when i push start/stop i just hear one only note all the time can somebody help me please i would be really happy if it would work .
Yeah the PG200 is an extension of the JX3P, it allows easier control of the keyboard's parameters. On its own it doesn't do anything. There are plenty of people out there who have the keyboard without the controller so itf you don't get a JX3P you could sell the PG200
Dude, I actually tried several times to see if I could get him to do something like that but Oscar has almost zero tolerance for nonsense He is just TOO cool. I did give him 15 sec of fame on another video "Oscar the Beatbox Cat." I held him up in front of the camera and made some rude noises. He wasn't too happy doing it - but laid on my desk while I edited the video and dug the sounds. We rescued him from a shelter and his attitude is like "what took you cretins so long?!" lol
It was the drums from the roland SH-32. I used a midi-to-cv converter to send a 16th note gate into the JX-3p's sync input. The 16th notes came from my old Roland MC-50 sequencer which was also triggering the drums.
I use JX-3p a lot in my music, fucking love it and esp as it's completely underated. It's got a character all of it's own and it's easy to program even without the PG-200.
Totally dude, I've had one since 1985 for shits sake... I always tell people that I could do an entire album with just that one synth and no one would even know it... and I have...
SWEET. I had a JX-3P back in the 80s and could only dream of a set-up like this. I did play with the sequencer but never had anything to sync it up with. Yes, amazingly everything you did here could be done without the PG unit, but you'd have to be a button pusher extraordinaire!
they are on Ebay all the time. there is probably one on Ebay right now - check it out and good luck! The PG-200 is awesome - they are built so much better than the plastic PG-800. I use mine with my MKS-30 and my Roland GR-700 guitar synth.
The MKS-30 is the rackmount version of the keyboard I use in this video - the JX-3P. You would need some kind of midi keyboard to trigger the MKS-30, but its a great synth.
Yep I've had 2 JX3-p's and 2 Juno 106's and the JX pisses on the Juno for richness and warmth of tone, having in my opinion much more in common with the sound of the Jupiter 8.
hey mate, bout to buy a JX 3P just wondering can you MIDI synch a drumm machine upto the tempo of the roland? caus ei got an electribe emx and that would so so so so so good if i could. thanks mate keep it up.
Probably the easiest thing to do is trigger the JX-3P and EMX from your midi sequencer. I used a midi-to-cv converter to feed a 16th note gate into the "trigger sequencer" input on the back of the JX-3P. That triggered the synth's internal sequencer. The gate pattern was synced to my drum machine.
Ah... truly a beautiful and under-rated machine. Just bought one myself recently. Not as good as the JP-8080, but as far as VA's go, not too shabby. Just wish I could get more analog synths. All I've got is a Pulse, MKS-50, Super Bass Station, AX60, and an AX80.
fyi: The oscillators on the JX-3P are analogue. DCO means digitally controlled not generated. The pitch is controlled by a digital clock which was way more reliable for pitch than older voltage controlled oscillators which could drift and be hard to tune, sometimes requiring repair. this is a common misunderstanding and came from old 80s era arguments over DCOs vs VCOs which is now the Virtual Analogue vs Analogue argument. The 2 kind of got confused to be the same issue somewhere along the way.
+ nearly all analogue synths (not virtual ones but real analogue) since then have had some form of digital clock controlling pitch. even the new stuff analogue like Dave Smith's Poly Evolver.
Thanks for the info on the DCO thing. It makes sense though...with a voltage control being less precise, especially with the older stuff. That slight drift is a psycho-acoustic factor.

BTW did you open it up and tweak up the resonance pots any? even a slight bit is supposed to give it more bite at the top... ?
I'm currently working on a 'super jx-3p' which is going to be my synth + tweaks/midi expansion and built in programmer (though not a PG-200)
