I'm thinkin' should damar stay alive when killed the last weyoun then help cardassian people gettin strong and building new place of cardassian's Lakarian city then continue till 2410 AD, why not?
This video is just perfect, I love it. I just want to say a little detail, the Cardassian at 0:20 is not Damar, this one was only a Cardassian Security sitting there in Odo's office in one of the episodes during the Dominion occupation of DS9 station. But the video is beautiful, the song the editing, thank you. Love Cardassia and Cardassians, DS9 is the best!
I think Damar was rendered quite well. He started out as an obedient, somewhat introverted Cardassian officer just doing his job. Having to serve under traitor Dukat and the overbearing Dominion translated into increased booze consumption; he was getting disillusioned. He finally had enough and rebelled, which helped to turn the Dominion into a complete monster as they started carrying out disproportionate reprisals against the Cardassians.
This guy cleaned up the mess that Dukat made from when he sold out Cardassia to the Dominion.Damar died freeing his people. And the irony is that he had help from a former Bajorian freedom fighter, Kira Nerys.
Damar was the right man at the right place, doing the wrong things for a long time till he woke up & started doing the right things. that´s the interesting thing about him, he started as a weak alcoholic anti-hero, dominated & bullied by Dukat, Weyoun & all other megalomaniac "super-villains". who would have thought by that time that he would start doing his own thing, and eventually play such an important role in saving his home world? but in the end that´s exactly what he did. a true hero.
Damar is probably the best example of a real hero from the entire series. He was a bigoted fascist who would have liked to destroy an entire race, and murdered the daughter of his commanding officer, but at the end of the day, he overcame his prejudice in order to work with Kira and overcame his alcoholism in order to fight for what he believed it. He gave his life for his people. Damar was a man who started as a villain, but defeated the villain in himself in order to become a hero.
Damar was one of my favorite characters in the later DS9. I wish they had let him live to be leader of interim Cardassia/whatever. Casey Biggs is a talented actor.
I disagree. While Damar's personal life may not have been that great, I think he did the best he could under the pressure of Dominion authorities. Although he couldn't stand up to Weyoun like Dukat could, I thought he was a great and inspiring leader when he finally rebelled. During that time he also acknowledged that the Cardassia he knew was dead, and would likely have lead it into a new, more liberal age. He would've been perfect for leading the Cardassian people post-Dominion War IMHO.
I think he can be best described as a true Cardassian patriot. He did what he believed was best for Cardassia at the time. Killing Zeal was because he believed that she had betrayed Cardassia and her father who was a great man in his eyes. Also, by his thinking any condition that Cardassia was left in after the Dominion War was better then serving under the Dominion.
NOOOO Cardassia is way too good by themselves to be watered down into another Federation member. The idea of Garak or Dukat in black and gray pajamas is no good.
that would be ok, independent allies. they can be great allies, but MUCH better villians :D. even their heroes such as Ghemor, Dumar, and Garek are hardly saints. Besides as allies, that gives them another chance to betray the quadrant again :D. Garek said it best
@kingrc69 Cardassia in the novel is allied to the Federation and the other peoples of the Alpha Quadrant to fight the last war against the Borg collective, in this final battle the Borg are finally completely destroyed. after the Federation, Klingon, Ferengi and Romulan Star Empire form a block that is pitted against the state formed aliaza Romulan Empire, the bring and other peoples.
@principekaelthas The Romulan Star Empire, the Breen, the Tholians, the Tzenkethi, and the Holy Order of Kinshaya (only mentioned in books) form the Typhon Pact to stand against the Federation after the Borg are destroyed.
@principekaelthas i see. I'm just now getting into the books so I dont know alot of what happened after the series ended. Right now im reading The Neverending Sacrifice about Rugal Pa'dar after he left DS9. I'm really enjoying it.

An interesting person, Damar. Does he dislike Garak?
BTW I always wondered what he did to be hated by the military and feared by civilians.

@Schalotte No, but in the books, his first name is Corat. (Dukat's is Skrain, btw)

I wish he had lived in the series finale to lead the Cardassian people. Damar was awesome.

He was a great man and an excellent soldier, but poor leader.
After the Dominion War, Cardassia is now a severely weakened power, wrecked by civil war and poverty.
I sure hope Garak will become Cardassia's leader and eventually lead his people to join the Federation.
Unlike Damar, he has proven himself to be a very good leader and strategist.
