  • No couple has ever sung this more beautifully. Every time I listen they take my breath away.

  • MICS

  • Incredibile!!!!!!

  • This is the best, perfection.

  • He looks so different

  • I hope they are both singing in heaven.

  • Amazing video. Absolutely amazing.

And to those saying Pavarotti's voice was louder than Sutherland, that's only because of the recording. Many voices sound HUGE in recordings, but are actually not in real life. Sutherland's voice was always said to surround anyone when she sang, and her voice was far bigger than Pavarotti's. I'm not saying his voice wasn't strong, though, because it certainly was. Sutherland's voice was the size of Nilsson's, only with a more lyric, less steely sound.

  • "They both must be heading the choir of Angels in Heaven!!!!"

They are no choir singers ^^ not even in heaven, they always will sing solo :) ;)

  • The remarks by anableps67360 are so tasteless as to be offensive. This type of language is Inappropriate under any circumstances regardless of one's impression of an individual and certaily when speaking of the dead. Quite horrible and nasty.

  • 21 people need to stay off the opera videos, obviously they are without ANY class !!!

  • voci sublimi che dire celestiali

  • very strange to see Maestro Pavarotti shaved..

  • RIP the two towering figures of Italian Opera. One mostly the one and only King of Tenors, Maestro Luciano Pavarotti.

  • love it when at 5:10 they look for each others' hands so they can stop singing the last note at precisely the exact same time, and they do it! brilliantly of course.

  • GAH Maestro looks like a rapist!!!!!..........he's still amazing though :P

  • My all-time favorite operatic couple. Thank heavens for technology to preserve

    this fabulous art.

  • pavarotti.fo.ru this site for LUCIANO PAVAROTTI

  • Maravilloso!!!!! BRAVIII le due!!!!. They both must be heading the choir of Angels in Heaven!!!!

  • 2:30 Increible maestro, he aprendido a amar e interpretar la opera gracias a ti

  • @anableps67360 Were it only you instead, you ignoramous.

  • @anableps67360 words can never tell you how much of an uneducated tool bag you are. in case what i said went completely over your head, you're an idiot.

  • ma è mastella o mi sbaglio?

  • Two great singers!

  • LOL you Pavarotti did look weird without the beard but you guys are so mean. XD

  • WOW. Such great singing

  • as beatiful as it is, now I get why say about Sutherland's diction being imprecise

  • that is no Pavarotti, he can't be :D I do not acknowledge him without his beard, the appearance is not right :D

  • @Thonestor It's him, my dear :D

  • Pavarotti and Sutherland - simply the Best.

  • Both have Talent from God!

  • I wonder how many of the "superstars" of today would be willing to walk on stage after these two? I am guessing not many.

  • @NO ONE!!!mareckbamf

  • @mareckbamf none of nowadays star if they are called Netrebko, Rancatore, Grigolo, Villazon, Cura ... OMG, they just dream to have the technical perfection Joan had and the good technique Pavarotti had!

  • this duetto is close to perfection vocally I mean!!!

  • Ah... I like the clean, beardless look of maestro... : D

  • ¡¡¡un dúo inigualable!!!!

  • un dúo inigualable!!!!

  • Beard power!

  • Both singers were considered to be near the top of their field at the time.

  • RIP Joan. Heaven just got it High E-flat back....

  • @andymarsalis How she sings there..... And with or Without Luciano....Louder,more glorious than ever!!!!

  • @lastupendaboy Pavarotti here is far louder than her. He drowns her totally.

  • Grazie Luciano e Joan!!!!!! riposate in Pace. Resterete sempre un punto di riferimento!!! Siete stati dei grandi

  • therebstood the two greatest singers of the 20th century. Also that evening sang Caballe & Domingo: what i would have given to be there.

  • LOS MEJORES DE TODOS LOS TIEMPOS.......AHI VA ESO.........PARA EL RESTO DE LAS GENERACIONES.........

  • pelle d'oca :p

  • Without that beard he looks like a fat John Cleese with a really really good voice.

  • spettacolari!!!

  • BOTH GREAT VOICES , RIP

  • ah... non posso dire qualcosa... sn troppi grandi... troppo....

  • No one comes close to that old witch, Callas. She had a breathtaking voice.

  • biutiful, no one like them; well just maria "bella" callas......

  • I miss them so !!!

  • RIP - what an incredible talent and artist......

  • Pavarotti called her the "voice of the century"

    nothing more to add.

  • @heigei1 yes but, he was the voice of all times.

  • Thanks for your records " La Supenda" your voice and al the Handel opera's......

  • Bravo La Stupenda!

  • pava gone and now joan follow to eternity .R.I.P

  • Singing does not get any better than this! The two legends of opera at their very finest. My life is unthinkable without them. R.I.P.

  • What a great duet!

  • sutherland sent her best friend, huguette tourengeau, to Michael Trimble to fix her voice. the Manon in vancouver, b.c. was cast with Tourengeau and nine more Trimble students. it says something about Trimble's teaching, doesn't it? Tourengeau sang fabuloiusly at that time. the only bad review in the cast was the only non-Trimble student!

  • GRAZIE LUCIANO E JOAN !! PER SEMPRE DUE FARI NEL BELCANTO

  • GRAZIE LUCIANO E JOAN !!

  • Simply the Best.

  • 2 heaven sent opera legends

  • Bravo Bravo La Stupendo Bellisima

  • Both of them have been our inspiration in the Opera World, and I must say both of them are now singing in the heaven, reunited... Maestro Pavarotti and Dame Joan Sutherland thank you for the music and inspiration...

  • Sweet jesus... Pavarotti's diminuendo at 3:33 is gorgeous

  • Brilliant gorgeosity of which humans are capable, here for our enjoyment and inspiration.

  • Tu me manquera, La Stupenda. Addio, addio...

  • Now they sing together in heaven!!! And what a coincidence : she passed away on the same day as late Lucianno's birthday, October 12th ...only 2 days away from Giuseppe Verdi's birthday! Life can play such tricky games....

  • @scubagreek she passed away on Oct 10, 2010 not Oct 12, but you're correct, they're both singing in heaven now.

  • GRANDE PERFEZIONE!!!!

  • Extraordinary...

    La Stupenda o The incomparable...

    Her secret...

    Effortless, warm, vibrant...

    Freely, powerfully, intensely...

    Clarity and finesse...

Her voice was so naturally glorious...

    Una diva

  • Lo Mejor en duetos

  • THE BEST!!!!!!!!!!

  • Simply the Best.

  • SIMPLY THE BEST!

He was taught breathing by Joan Sutherland.

  • SIMPLY THE BEST!

  • SIMPLY THE BEST!

  • Heaven!

  • master class

  • Delicioso!

    Lindo! Lindo!

    Saudade de Pavarotti! Voz maravilhosa!

  • Pavarotti blows her away on the top notes. He is still the reining champion and will be for a long time............

  • Dear @Gaspipenicklioni,

Singing Opera should not be a competition between singers...

    vijverelf.nl

  • @Gaspipenicklioni I'm a huge pavarotti fan, but sutherland could blow anyone away, you have no idea of the size of her voice. She's up there with nilsson flagstad and vickers in voice size... Much bigger voice than luciano.

  • @FeelinMinnesota No way, you can barely hear her when they hit the top notes together. Listen to them seperately, Luciano's voice hits you like a giant laser. Both legendary singers though. Later

  • @Gaspipenicklioni But this is a recording, it isn't the same as live in a theater.. Everyone who attended opera those days said there was not a bigger voice than sutherland's except for nilsson. Pav never had a huge voice, his voice was middle size.. That doesn't make him any less spectacular (he's my fav tenor), but facts are facts. Listen to In questia reggia from Turandot. there you'll hear how much bigger Joan's voice was.

  • @FeelinMinnesota Yes it is not the same in a recording and in the theater. On the recording the female voices are more appealing and sound louder than they are and the male voices sound less loud than they are. So if Pavarotti drowns her on this recording imagine how much louder was he in the theater.

  • @FeelinMinnesota And there are a lot bigger voices than Sutherland. Nillson, Dimitrova, Tucker, MDM, Filipeschi etc. The biggest female voice is maybe Dimitrova, and she was drowned Pavarotti in Tosca 1985 so Pav was amazingly loud especially for a medium sized voice but thats because his technique and the travelling ability of his voice vere awesome. The loudest singer ever is maybe the tenor Carl Haus, or Ginno Peno. After them are Tucker, Pav, Corelli, MDM and after them Nilsson, Dimitrova...

  • @FeelinMinnesota Pavarotti was a lot louder than Sutherland, but I am not saying this to offend her because she is one of my favorite sopranos maybe my favorite. She may be as not as loud as Pavarotti but she is one of the loudest ever. She is in the league of the dramatic sopranos, a little less loud than Dimitrova and Nilsson but definitely a lot louder than Callas. And being in the league of Nilsson it is amazing how her voice is so agile to sing coloratura.

  • @FeelinMinnesota We don't have tenors, sopranos, baritones, mezzosopranos, bassos and altos of that caliber any more today.

  • @FeelinMinnesota But it doesn't mean that if the voice is smaller that it has to be less loud. Pavarotti had a smaller voice but because of his perfect technique the travelling ability of his voice was awesome and he was even louder than the dramatic voices.

  • love pavarotti without the beard

  • I love watching their breath support engage for that long 13 count C on the 'addio'. Pure Gold.

  • I love it......so gorgeous singing and so powerful!!!!

  • Bravo! Love Pavarotti! Love this performance! :-)

  • awesome *****

  • Perfection

  • @ClassicOperaGirl100 Pavarotti and Sutherland sang like two complemetary works of masterful art singing in unison. Bravo!!

  • @ClassicOperaGirl100 yes perfect !!!!

  • luciano looks soo strange without his beard

  • I understand why pavarotti sports a beard now

  • @NathanPickering Luciano is beautiful also without his beard.

  • It's 90 degrees here and I'm shivering!

  • Bravo.Excellente ++++++++

  • No microphones, no hearing devices, no electronic tweaking, no fancy props, no pyrotechnics, no people flying through the air on cables, there is nothing fake here, just two people standing on a plain stage singing to the top of their lungs, they were the real deal, two spectacular voices.

  • I don't know about you guys, but Pavarotti's voice reaches depths of the soul that others cannot. It is an astounding voice that we are not likely to see for a long time from anyone else. Yes there are other great singers with great voices, but Pavarotti's has not been matched yet. It's majestic in it's beauty, range, tone, power, and longevity. I am thankful that he lived while we had the technology to record him unlike the great Enrico Caruso.

  • ¡Precisa interpretación!

  • the quality of the singing here puts Callas, Caruso, Flagstad, Tebaldi, Nilsson, Di Stefano on a second plateau, and all the pretenders (Domingo, Scotto, Bocelli) in the trash bin. Bravo Luciano & La Stupenda!

  • Listen to the final pair of B flats; Pavarotti's incredible ringing resonance, and Sutherland's bell like ping sound phenomenal when paired.

  • I LOVE THEM @___@

  • Famous as she may have been, voice is very hidden. She should release and open her throat. Unlike Pav., he was brave and vulnerable with a colourful voice which was well defined n controlled.

  • It's funny to see Pavarotti whithout his beard :)

    they sound sooo great together

  • @yllodnkcor Yeah it's strange but if he hasn't been singing i couldn't recognize him

  • Nathan Lane? You got fat!!!

  • The Japnese narator says " Suoutharland has an unushual voice. Her voice is so surprisingly rich and briliant that few tenor singers have an enough vioce to valance with hers. Luciano is one of those. The collaboration by the two singers has been a sensation this season. "

  • pav at his best. bravo!

  • Was it not Sutherland who taught him that?

  • this is the best I have ever heard from Luciano Pavarotti, all power and Sutherland was fantastic as usual. Bravoooooooooooooooo

  • Absolutely the best ever! Nobody could match them!

  • I seem to remember him saying that his breath control was taught to him by Joan during their Australian tour.

  • @andyuk Yep, apparently he used to feel her tummy in order to gauge here breathing.

  • the best pavarotti, young and fresh all power here

  • Eccolo

Saluti

  • pavarotti looks really different without his characteristic beard.

  • This is ABSOLUTELY IT. Nothing comes close.

  • I was sitting here thinking how intimidating it would be to stand up there and sing with that giant austrailian woman. But Pavarotti really had the goods to bring it and handed it back.

  • Pavarotti, the number one of all times

  • @TheAnder87

    over-rated.

  • Watch Pavarotti's breathing control, absolutely flawless.

  • @Gaspipenicklioni rumor has it that he learnt it from her

  • @tneprescintr Yes he did, that is fact. Later

  • @Gaspipenicklioni pavarotti actually learned how to breathe from sutherland; we have a lot to thank her for.

  • @wildfireaf he actually bettered his breathing, not learned how to breathe.

  • @wildfireaf Yea, I knew that. What a freakin' voice! He was a master at what he did.

  • @wildfireaf right

  • Greatest duo. Who is the guy without beard? What year was this performance? Pav looks like someone else.

  • 1972

  • Dear rrrrrrrrrffff,

Thanks for the info. I wish you a Happy New Year filled with God's blessings.

  • Greatest duo ever!
