  • What he is talking about beetwen 3:15 and 3:49 . What kind of channel ? for what is it ? My pump drip exactly there, where he show by finger in near 3:30. What could be the cause ? Recovery like that will help or it could be something more ?

    Please, help.

  • The cause is as per the video content, you need to replace the oil and water seals in your pump.

The channel I refer to is a bypass drain tube cast into the pump and front block, (you'll see it with the pump removed), coolant bypasses the damaged seal and along this tube causing the drip you see.

  • Good for you for doing this. A couple of minor points:

    1) You forgot Step1: Drain the engine oil and coolant.

    2) On older bikes the Allen heads tend to get filled with road grime so it's helpful to clean them out and make sure the Allen wrench is well-seated to avoid stripping the bolt heads.

  • Ahhhh, so that's what all that fluid stuff all over the yard was! :)

Good point, remember to drain coolant before doing this and ask an adult if you're unsure.

On the point of the oil, I didn't fully drain the pan, i weighted the rear to lean it back on the mainstand and placed a catch pan under the pump body, it only loses about 1/2 L of oil, that said you may as well drain it but if you don't plan on doing a change you can do this, strain and replace.

  • Also good point on the bolt heads, exposed allen bolts can be bad and easy to round out, use good quality keys or preferably sockets and as Duck says make sure they seat well in there.

  • Nice videos hope i can see some more bike reviews from you soon.

  • Thanks, hope to be doing a full review on the BMW and have a couple of others planned, the weather, while fantastic currently for Feb in Scotland, is still too cold for extended videoing outdoors, will be adding part two of this one soon, refitting the seals and reassembly.

  • Nice one, shall be looking out for it soon.
