  • one of the best soundtracks ever.

  • one of the best games ever.

  • epic epic epic

  • read a review on GOG and saw someone saying that the soundtrack was made by Jeremy Soule. By god this is awesome.

  • i played this game when i was small,, now it reminds me back

  • +atm

  • As much as I enjoyed Sup Comm, it still doesn't compare to the awesomeness of TA. TA Spring was just bleh :(

  • Motherfucking Jeremy Soule

  • this is a serious work of art im 26 now ta was my life and i still have it installed on my i7 (if only for the pathfinding i'd be having 10,000 vs 10,000 unit battles amazing

  • @Bigtooly You know, how many Units you could do battles with doesn't entirely rely on your System Specs - but also on the Engine.

Although your System probably most likely would be powerful/fast enough to - doesn't mean the old Game Engine would be able to keep up. :)

Nonetheless, Total Annihilation will remain the best RTS I've ever played. And Jeremy Soule is my absolute favourite composer - absolutely amazing and unique soundtracks!

  • @Dealman15 yeah in know about the pathfinding / engine, thought that was clear. If only those technical barriers could be broken it would be amazing.

  • I'd like to see a company start up where it specializes in essentially remaking old titles under different names, enough difference from the games to not run into legal ownership rights issues, better graphics (sometimes), while specializing in bringing back the feel of the games themselves.

  • @Colinrose777

Interesting idea... only issue would be the copyrights really...

  • Jeremy Soule was 22 when he composed this masterpiece.

  • @Grenadier1 Then he turned 22!

  • This game.. TA is my childhood :D

  • [Blaring Alarm]

    Peewee: Under attack!

I loved Total Annihilation...The nostalgia. I remember making walls out of my own unit wrecks. The AI never really figured out how to get past them.

  • This game had/has epic written all over it. Supreme Commander wasn't bad either, but it didn't have quite the same feel, although close.

  • You can buy and download Total Annihilation off of amazon for cheap.

  • @bizgf You can buy and download the Commander pack, including The Core Contingency and Battle Tactics from Good Old Games for very cheap.

  • Moar flashes. MOAR PEEWEES.

  • The Tophat sent me.

  • i have to play this game

  • God I love this game, and the music is simply genius.

  • Jesus Christ this is bringing back all the memories of epic battles that would last for hours and hours. (Yeah I liked to turtle!) One of the best RTS games ever. So ahead of it's time. Shame they fucked the rest up :/

  • I don't remember anything about TA. Haven't played it in 13 years. Just found the soundtrack through youtube, and nostalgia is flooding over me. I listened to this soundtrack far more than I played the game during my high school years.

Now I hear this in retrospect, comparing it to music I've heard since. Is this Soule's best work? Might be, even though I love Morrowinds soundtrack. This is fucking epic and adventurous.

  • my favourite command was ctrl A, ctrl D

  • I recommend a Total Annihilation universal installer torrent, search for "Total Annihilation Ultimate Custom Installer" on the pirate bay or any other torrent sites. The custom installer will let you install any version, and any of the popular mods out there, latest versions. Escalation, Twilight, Mayhem, Switeck's Bugfix, heck even the demo version of TA.

  • Jeremy Soule is the mark of musical brilliance for games.

  • EPIC !!

  • to this day every time I am about to start an epic battle or what not this starts playing in my mind.

  • @eoqazzaq Best. Comment. On YouTube.

  • @eoqazzaq Thats why I always used the construction planes

  • @eoqazzaq I imagined the "boo-da-boo-da-boo" sound effect playing 7 times when I read this comment.

  • @eoqazzaq

LMAO! that's great memories! and that stupid noise they made!

  • All hail Jeremy Soule, the master of music!

  • TA has the best soundtrack of any other game

    period

  • @sanchofirestorm no... skyrim does

  • @zoomdude44 skyrim isn't out......

  • get high, listen to soundtrack

  • reminds me a bit of one song from "conan" by basil pouledourus ...check out "riders of doom."

  • I have the TA music CD in my car. When I'm driving to work when it's raining heavily, I listen to this music on full volume. It's f***ing epic.

  • What a beautiful music! What a fantastic sounding tr....oh wait. Jeremy Soule? Yup that explains it!

  • This music I will play when I tell my boss I quit and to go fuck himself today.

  • anyway, best realtime strategy for now day *and, forever :)

I still have original TotalA disc -_- my treasure

  • I love it that you can recognise the music in 1 second, and it brings back all the memories and feelings of playing it just after the release. Amazing game and amazing soundtrack!

  • @TheModCon dude, i still has it on my PC, installed and ready to go! Freaking playing it from time to time!

  • @fingerniklas I did have it on my PC, but then I got a Mac so it doesn't run :'(

  • @TheModCon Mac is a bad choice :( . Get XP :D

  • @fingerniklas

    >>Mac bad choice

    >>Get XP

    ????

    :D :P

  • This song has influenced so much of the music I write nowadays, so dramatic. It's amazing how much of an exciting story you can fit in to 2 and 1/2 minutes of music.

  • Best Rts game ever made

  • @DarknessKing1337 I agree, the soundtrack is also one of the best for any RTS I have ever heard.

  • You can only dream about dying to a soundtrack this epic

  • Anyone who likes the TA soundtrack should listen to "Mars, the Bringer of War" by Gustav Holst

  • @Mijntroep Jupiter, the bringer of jollity is also good

  • they don't make games like this anymore

  • @DasFunkwagen No, Farmville is the staple of future gaming

  • i have this game, i love it, my dad gave it to me, along with Doom, old games are the best!

  • i was 2 when this came out, i started playing when i was 5, im 16, and i still have the game, anyone else got it?

  • @6stringman14 im 13 and my older brother reintroduced to this game to me now i love it my older bro is 27 which is why he has it

  • @GrayWolf671 nice!

  • @6stringman14 I have it,too and i´m 16 too ^^.

It´s my favourite strategy game and i think i link classical music because i played this game in the age of 11.:)

  • @Pulvertoastman250 I was about 11 when I got it to, but that was Waaaaaaaaaaaaaay back in the mid 90's. lol

  • loved this game... good times , good times :)

  • OMG I LOVE THIS MUSIC!

  • Krogoth all the way!!

  • hoooo memories...

  • HOLY!

This blows me out of the room because of sheer epicness!

  • Where can we get the music scores from?

  • 22 years old when Jeremy made this :D

    "the more you know"

  • I talked to Tommy Tallarico, the creator Video Games Live, and suggested he think about adding some music from this game to the set. He said he'd go back to the game and check out the soundtrack again; hopefully he adds this song and the intro theme to their repertoire. That would be awesome.

  • I would like to ballroom dance with a giant death machine to this song.

  • @railfun who will lead?

  • @railfun You just made me laugh out loud in my class. Thank you RAILFUN. I now should pretend to be doing this stupid Law assignment..

  • @SinRainer You're welcome.

  • it's been at least a decade since I played Total annhilation but of the things I remember about it this song is the most prominent

  • God damn. Jeremy Soule's the fucking man. I just listened to the new Skyrim music, and its incredible. This music's so much better than this game

  • Two people got their Commanders destroyed by a lone Spider KBot.

  • My Fav ;)

  • Total Annihilation is to Starcraft as EVE Online is to World of Warcraft. One of them is for sissies and one of them collects tons of money from a sheep-like fanbase. Both 'ones' are the same one though.

What I really mean is that Total Annihilation is really just for people who can run an empire without 'sissy limits' as I like to call them. Blizzard only limits players in the game because their fans whine when they get beat by fifty thousand of "such-and-such" from "out of 'nowhere'".

  • Oh wait, I forgot Age of Wonders 1 . They had really good soundtracks , too.

  • And the music of good old Blizzard Games is awesome. It's - just like the gameplay - completely different than this music , but it's still awesome. Listen to the sc1 themes of Terran and Zerg, wc2 music, Diablo2 music. Imho TA,SC1,WC2,Diablo2 and RA2 were the games with the best soundtrack. Today sadly they don't look that much at the soundtrack .

  • @TheNewHide Total Annhilation is not Blizzard. NEVER, EVER compare TA to Blizzard games. TA is unique in every way. WoW is a failed Warhammer game (fact) and SC is due to the same event. TA was the first true 3D game. SC was... nothing new.

  • @red244 And " NEVER, EVER compare TA to Blizzard Games".. Well .. You have to read, what I say. The first sentence i wrote was " srsly guys you CANT vompare something like sc2 with TA" .

  • @red244 I like how you state your opinion as a fact. Makes your argument totally believable bro. Both games are great, which is why they usually go 1 & 2 to people who know their sh**. One thing is a fact though, the soundtrack is by far the greatest ever made for a video game.

  • @JamesJamie100 TA was first game to incorperate 3D, RTS anyways. (Fact, deal with it) SC had no 3D (Fact). Units with similiar and models are remarkably similiar in some cases, such as Reaver and Hydralisk. (Opinion but a valid one)

Name one thing that Blizzard have created. Otherwise your arguement is invalid.

So if SC2 isn't old made new, then how is it you explain all they pritty much did was add few new units, remove others and upgrade graphics?

  • @red244 I...man, I really can't make out most of what you're saying with the bad spelling/grammatical errors there. TA is better than SC; but they are both GODLY games. Hydralisk and reaver have a totally different models, ones a slug and the other is like an acid spitting snake dude.

SC2 was just improving on an already epic level of Esport gaming. Deal with the fact that even though TA was the better game, Blizzard had and has a far better business model.

  • @JamesJamie100 Blizzard survived because they had money from their owners to help support them, same for activision. Cant say the same for Cavedog ofc.

It's Youtube, not a roleplaying site. It also doesn't help you have a limit of characters. Would you prefer no grammer and one post or a post with perfect grammer with everything squashed togeather?

  • @red244 TA wasn't the first true 3D game. It might have been the first true 3D bird's eye view real-time strategy game. But Quake came before it and I don't think even Quake is the first true 3D game.

  • @TheReaverOfDarkness TA was first game to incorperate 3D. Quake was the first game to incorperate 3D axis thereby allowing players to look up and down rather than left and right. Both affected gaming in diffirent ways and with diffirent genres.

  • @red244 I'm sorry but you're incorrect. Quake was fully 3D, and I just looked it up in fact. Elite (1984) was the first true 3D game, though it used only very simple vector graphics made with lines to represent edges. You might be confusing Quake with game engines like Dark Forces (1995) in which the game environment was mapped in 2D from overhead, but the player could look up and down though the image became distorted, and the use of multiple layers simulated a 3D world.

  • @TheReaverOfDarkness Notice the line "RTS anyways." ;)

  • srsly guys you CANT compare something like sc2 with TA. The gameplay is totaly different . Sure C&C sucks since they fired all Westwood but SC2 is epic just like SC1 and just like this, but its completely different. No offense , I fucking LOVE this game, I play it for I was 4 years old or something like that, but SC2 is much more difficult, complex and faster. Actually they HAVE got units, that can shot and move at the same time, but it's their "special ability".

  • @TheNewHide Starcraft 2 is 'old made new'. It cant compare to TA still for a wide range of reasons. The gameplay online is very boring, once you see a build order once and then everyone copies it and is never inventive.

Attacking and moving should NEVER be a special ability. The fact is if Terran marines cant move and shoot then their fools for not doing so. Their a nerfed version of Space Marines. Blizzard copies, they dont invent anything.

After all TA was first RTS with 3D. SC was 2D

  • @red244 funny thing, though all this stuff it's the most played rts and though there are three completely different races it's the most balanced rts. But to say, terrans are copied from the Space Marines of Warhammer 40k is pretty stupid. The only thing, they have in mean is their name. Terran Space Marines are one , count on, ONE unit. The Space Marines in WH40K have plenty of different units. Even the Tanks and Dreadnoughts count as Space Marines.

  • @TheNewHide No.... Dreadnoughts are fallen Space Marines and Tanks are just Tanks with the except of some which are Machine Spirit.

That's like saying Terran Thors are Terran because they are piloted by a Terran so the whole point counters itself.

  • @red244 What I wanted to say: Space Marines are in Warhammer 40K a whol fraction. In SC it's just one unit.

  • @red244 The Space Marines in WH40K are the fucking elite, while in SC2 Space Marines are canon fodder.

Well , I think it's not that easy to fire a heavy gun while running AND hit anything.

WoW was sadly more succesfull than Warhammer online and warcraft has a completely different story than Warhammer . Actually Blizz didn't copy ANYTHING from Games Workshop. The only thing that looks pretty same are Zerg and Tyranids. But both - Blizzard and Games Workshop - copied it from an old movie.

  • I love Supreme Commander. I would probably love TA too if the cursed thing worked on my damned machine.

  • @kilmindaro3 how can it not work it woorks on all systems everything from windows 95 to windows 7

  • its must be a pleasure for karajan to contuct this komposition when he was still alive ^^

  • TA is still better than SC to this day. This game had real atmosphere!

  • @rbeeky123 Not to mention it came out BEFORE Command and Conquer and Starcraft, and still had units that could strafe fire, driveby fire, and planes that actually hit and ran! AND the amazing enviroments (For the time) which are still quite fun AND were 3D so elevation actually elevated you!

  • @WhiteTiger225 Dude, Starcraft is nothing compared to this, same for Command and Conquer. The fact that Blizzard still cant even implement a system where units that could clearly attack and move at the same time cant... It's stupid. And yes SC1 had no 3D. In fact this was first RTS ever to use 3D system.

Blizzard music sucks anyway they copied Warhammer + 40k with WoW & SC. Total Annhilation on other hand is entire unique.

Hail the grandfather of all RTS games.

  • @red244 Herzog Zwei is the first RTS, and an awesome start it was. Total Annihilation just topped it lifting the genre to a whole new level.

Starcraft has something to it, but without the cool single player story of the very original, it isn't fun really.

Red Alert 2 is tha shit, don't hurt it, it is the perfect mix of everything. Sure that is the most simple of the bunch, but i don't care.

I love Totala for the massiveness... if it "actually had story" it COULD be on the same level as RA2.

  • @styber Supreme Commander 1 actually had a decent story, unlike Supreme Commander 2

  • @rbeeky123 Better than SC2 perhaps, SC1 is at least equal in terms of gameplay.

  • They just don't make games like this anymore. Sad really, since we have better technology and stuff nowadays. Problem is, companies keep making stuff for the console kiddies, instead of making something that will really last forever.

  • games will never again be this glorious, EVER

  • ravorite music on total anhilation

  • i would love to go to see a live performance of all the total annihilation music

  • @tier1111

its electronic orchestra if i recall correctly, so that would be ... difficult to say the least, listen very carefully the instruments dont sound quite right for a regular orchestra, it took me 10 years to notice that fact because i was absorbed in how good the music was.

  • @TyriaelSoban A live orchestra could still do this music and it would be positively EPIC!

  • @TyriaelSoban No, its not electronic, it was all played by a real orchestra, according to Wikipedia, the Northwest Sinfonia orchestra in Seattle.

  • @tier1111 We Did me and me Orchestra :) EPIC !

  • @tier1111 omg i actually thought the same thing!!!

  • This song and the narrator's voice (from mission's intro) make everything soo emotional and serious!, I remembered TA until today as a game that made RTS felt really vast... and total freedom in space.

  • This game is epic... I want it again !!

  • @dracusLOLdracus Check out good old games (search for it). You can buy the complete pack (expansion included, and a bunch of extras) for 6 dollars, digital download - as many times as you want.

  • my first PC game ,my first RTS game, my favorite game of all times ,still have all the CDs ,good old times ,the most perfect game it had it all, even i downloaded maps & units from internet and balanced them to the game using a program units like Karganeth and absolute Chaos and a lot more.....who knew these units

  • if only it was because of this.. this game is still one of my top favorite games evar... actually.. it was my first real game... and im proud of it ^^ .. no really.. this is just awesome

  • i used to absolutely love this game

  • Start song, launch nukes, watch goosebumps on arm

  • this game was so awsome. probubly the only rts game i found fun on the pc. i always beat my dad at it.

  • @RageOfLeoEX same here but i cant find it so i have to buy another one

  • AHHH!!! NOSTALGIAAAA!!!!

  • Back when soundtracks were awesome

  • I listen to this whenever someone's walking towards me from far away.

  • @MrMetalCookie why? what kind of feeling do you get when you do?

I think i would listen to it if i where walking to someone from far away :)

  • How can I get this music??

  • @jacksparrow20111 You can buy it from Gog.com for about $5 or $10. The game is included as a bonus!

  • @jtno2 5.99 Gog.com is a good site.

  • Could not break through our defences*

  • I recall one time playing this with my brother. We both pretty much turtled up on a core prime map. Naturally this meant we could break each other's defences, since you can get anti nukes. So what I did, is i sent over my commander in an atlas amongst other air units so he wouldnt see it. (we were playing on commander continues) Then... BOOM i win! :P

  • me and my brother still play this game. i always play as Arm and he Core, and we always get epic battles. and it's always fun to see who wins. my brother wins like 5 of 7 times, hes hard as hell to stop when he starts. just like a train, slow in the start but when he got the speed you can't stop him. will always have this game and play it aslong as i have a computer. :D

  • I've noticed in a lot of these TA songs the main theme plays, then repeats, then ends.

  • Nostalgia!

  • aaaaaaaargh, let rip the BIG BERTHA !!!!!!!

  • @haneyenah man that thing never hitted once when i used it xD

  • @Tigerknigt I rarely used it in defence, just build one within range of any enemy structures and, well... bye bye structures :)

  • @haneyenah yeah well with that gun all structures usually were in range :P if i aimed at the left end of th map i killed somethiing near the middle.. fail cannon ><

  • @Tigerknigt Superior for base defense... means enemy units have to keep moving instead of firing at one of your structures - if they stop moving, they obviously get 1 shotted lol

  • @Visvaka meh i never played that defensive. massed brawlers and went for the enemy commander (in MP games ofc) Bye bye commander., usually it ment bye bye brawlers cause he blew up like a nuke..

  • nothing quite like rolling into an enemy base to this music. Good memories!

  • This soundtrack + dgun > all

  • the best song

  • starcraft can suck it. unless a TA2 comes out this will always be the best RTS game

  • @ow3nzed sup com is the continuation i believe, although not very story silimarity

  • @ow3nzed sup com is the continuation i believe, although not very story similarity

  • @harednuta yes supcom is the spiritual sequal. Chris Taylor, the guy who made both games, apparently lost the rights to Total Annihilation to an oriental company who went bust afterwards, basically losing his right to produce sequels to the game forever. Supcom is basically the sequel to total annihilation with the story mildy altered, to include humans and different armies, the units are different and the names are different but theyre still based on the fundamental concepts. glad he did it

  • Man i got goosebumps when this started. I need to reinstall this game, been way too long.

  • @Leozodiac That makes sense, thanks.

  • why the hell was TA´s soundtrack so fucking awesome epic and supreme commanders sound just like garbage elevator music?!

both were made by jeremy soule... maybe hes gettin old :/

  • KROGOTH!!!!!

  • These songs still give me goosebumps when I listen to them. They always have and always will. Hitler can have his Ride of the Valkyries because this is what I'll be playing.

  • @Mechagriffen What Ride of the Valkyries have to do with Hitler? The music is from apocalypse now and the film's war is the vietnam.

  • From an older gamer....this takes me back a few years, kicking my brothers ass with brawlers.....massive explosions, great times man...miss them

  • If I only heard the music and didn't know where it came from, I would have guessed some opera or a Roman war movie. Nothing bad in that, but I would never have guessed a sci-fi game.

  • IF YOU STILL HAVE YOUR TA DISCS PUT THEM IN THE CD PLAYER, SKIP TRACK 1, AND ENJOY.

  • The only game with music that could even come close to this was doom

  • I still have the game and i am a huge fan, msg me if u want to play online with me sometime!!
