I was introduced to ITF when i was trying to learn the art back in the 90's. As my teacher/good friend told me that WTF has done a good job of outshining ITF because it gained IOC backing. I just hope that ITF gets the credit it truly deserves. Im from the Philippines.
ITF suffers from two problems: the sine wave and not applying the forms. The latter problem in fairness, is to the instructors. Not enoouh application of forms.
I practice Kyokushin, but I'm impressed by ITF. I disliked TKD in general until I saw how diverse ITF was. I hope I can find a good ITF dojang I can practice at because all there is around here is WTF and other McDojo shit.
i think norway is the worst tkd in europe, they change the move, the go through version become the slap now, the poland, russia and ... has a very good ITF team
@Taekwondoitf123 im talka about self defense and stuff, you dont have to use the right jumping hook kick to win in the sparr, they just dont use the right move, look up on the encyclpedia of tkd or the art of self defense andd see how they do, and norway is the only do this, other country do it the right way
as soon as you start talking about competition, you reveal your true identity- martial arts are not about what other ppl can do,but about what can YOU do for yourself- to truely learn a martial art you have to know its phisical part,as well as its philosophy
@mivmi youll find that many masters dont follow the philosophy themselves but I agree that martial arts should be about self improvement. However if you enjoy it,performing under pressure can be a healthy way to do that also.Character building isnt exclusive to non competeitive styles or even martial arts at all.Id have to say ive encountered more hypocrisy and bullshit in traditional arts than combat sports over the past 25 years.
@26jess wtf rules are an absolute joke, evryone watching the olympics thinks tkd is ridiculous. They should put kickboxing in the olympics and let all strikers enter.I very much doubt the 2 world bodies will merge as the patterns and sparring are completely different now,not to mention the egos and politics invoved.
a little challenge to all the "taekwon-do masters" on youtube... why don't you post a video response of you doing everything better than in this video...
then you can open your mouth and say that these guys are not good... this is so disrespectful... any of these guys would kick your ass in reality...
wow, thats saying a whole lot! I've been in TKD for over 33 years and I cannot kick as good as I used to but I feel I can fight on the street with the best of them. Or do u feel Im usless?
In WTF kicks are more effective and fast cause they have arms loosen down to increase the speed. And they usualy hit more cause the opponent has no guard. Its more sport orriented when you have an equal opponent. But when fighting against other style you have to use guard and hands, or you are risking too much.
You ever wondered why you never see ITF vs WTF fight?
Cause high jumping turning kicks usualy lead you to the ground. The ITF opponent would just try to avoid his first kick or blosking it with arms, and then close in and finnish him with hands rather than legs.
i know, but i talk about these guy, alot of itf fighter use leg very well, i'm talking about those guy in the video, their leg technique is not so flexible
thats not nessarely true though. there are so many wtf hatters out there its not even funny. wtf and itf learn almost the exact same things (depending on the instructors) the "main differences are the kicks (round house with the balls of the foot instead of the instep), the patterns, and during sparing no punching to the face. but we do learn pressure points, where to punch in a fight, kicking out the knees ect.
the only reason they have their hands down is so they can use them for momentum and counter balance. if you have your hands up you loose speed with the kick. if you look in this vid alot of them put their hands down when preforming a kick.
Zilogrok, you need to study your origins a bit more carefully. Choi did study TaeKyon from a relative, and he earned his lack belt in Japanese Karate. He merged aspects of the two together to form Oh Do Kwan "School of My Way". Tae Kyon, Soo Bahk Do, and HwaRang Do are the ancient native Korean arts you are referring to. Look at Won-Hyo, it's almost identical to Pinan NiDan or Heian Nidan of Shotokan Karate.
sir , You are correct to inform Zilogrok of better facts. right on. You are correct in what you say. I like this video very much . ITF is so wonderful.

Tkd appeared 209∼AD and there is no specific data about karate, but its similar or maybe pretty faster than. however, the only thing that is "similar" between karate and taekwon do, is forms that they do. its obvious that they are similar cause both area martial arts that base in kiking of punch the opponent, so, the way to defend or attack must be similar. however, you can clearly see that they have a lot of difference. karate base more in hand. tkd base more in kicks.
Taekkyeon is the old martial art. Taekwondo started evolving into what it is now early 20th century. What's simlar in Taekwondo and Karate is their straightforward combat.
Hi guys. I'm korean. And I know about ITF and Grandmaster Choi hong-hee. But sorrowfully many other Koreans dont't know about it. Even they know it as a thing of North korea.(Sorry.. I'm not good at English. Is it possible to understand what I mean?)
It's really sad true.. As you know, WTF is not the original Taekwondo. And must be united with ITF. As Choi's hope. I'm really proud of you that learning ITF.
your right about this, I spent time in South Korea teaching ITF (in English) and the people there are only just learning the TRUTH about Taekwon Do and OF Grandmaster Choi. It was strange that I - a forienger- knew more about the real TK D than they and they were so proud that I hold General Choi in such high regard ( he was a Ledgend in his own time ) and that I knew history of KOREA and the great men of the past. In North Korea ITF is strong and ALIVE .
@dekpun Wht ever people said, Wtf has achieved it existed main goal (as world recognized combat sport) through Olympic games. But, how about ITF? Is it achieved it own existed main goal (as best martial art)?
i think u`s need to change in to ITF suit and do that over again.
i think its very disrespectful to do a ITF demo/promo in GTF suits! ive read the reason to y but that doesnt change anything! GTF are proud of being GTF. im sorry u`s left after GM park died, GTF is gonna keep working on perfection to honour GM park.
I love this video, but it really brings me down to read all the ITF v.s. WTF hate. who cares? the are both great, but they differ on some things. anyone who can "hate" IFT because they train WTF and vice versa, do not deserve to be a part of either. Grow up people, and try to enjoy your own training rather than spreading all this hate.
I see some people do not know about TKD at all, if you look at the history of TKD, you will see the root of TKD in Korea...yes it was changing, but it has nothing with Japan..I trained ITF for five and WTF for three years and can say that both styles are good, couple of differences, but it is still the TKD.
WTF and Itf t's just different, from the pattern ITF's called Tuls, WTF's called Poomsae.. ITF kick and punch is balance, it'a martial arts..used to be military self defense when general Choi still alive (father of Taekwon-Do). WTF is Olympic sport, but they less of punch and only concentrate on sparring
My friend tried out one of my classes and said how much harder ITF is than WTF. It took her 2½ years to get her black belt and it took me 4½. She is now a 3rd dan while I am 1st.
Like Master O'Neil says; Taekwon-Do is the rose in a flower bed. Without all the other martial arts, how could any one see how much better Taekwon-Do is, we need all the others to show what Taekwon-Do has above all the rest.
well i partially disagree that. I tried classes from a lot of different places wtf, itf, and ukta. It's not really possible to say that one's harder than another cause they're all about the same, just the teaching style that's different (and one's a sport and in olympics, etc has nothing to do with how hard it is). The only thing that makes it hard is the teaching style, but in the end, it's all the same and it's still tkd.
i didnt mean to offend man im sry.... but dont take it wrong way i startedd out with tkd it was a great base. it helped tremendously getting the flexibility and speed. As i progressed i felt i needed more
That was AWESOME! Just got my 1st dan on Sunday! TKD is 52 years old. ITF is 41 years old. UKTA is 40 years old.
Grandmaster Rhee doesn't like that WTF has made Taekwon-Do a sport, but he is trying to combine WTF with ITF and is also working to get ITF into the Olympics
And about the Tul's, GTF had the same tul's as ITF (atleast the fraction with Tran as President)So GTN\NTN have always trained *GTF style Tul's* But some corrections where made after we left GTF. After it was clear NTN would join ITF led by Tran we have been adjusting the Tuls too fit more and more with ITF style. The Tuls are the same but diffrences in movment and pace are still evident
NTN is former GTN - Global Taekwon-Do Norway (member of GTF with Park Jung Tae as President) When Park passed away GTN left GTF and formed its own Norwegian organisation named National Taekwon-Do Norway it stayed that way until NTN formally joined ITF led by Master Tran Trieu Quan in 2006. As of today NTN still keeps it's name but are liked internationaly with ITF.
The patterns are really different... I am a member of NTN (National Taekwon-do Norway) who's now converted to ITF instead... A friend of me is a member of WTF... Our patterns are completly different...
taekwon do rocks...norway and sweden are pretty good tkd artists...and can you looser stop arguing about wtf and itf... both organisations can kick your ass
It's true that Choi came up with the name taekwon do.But without the combined effort of the different kwan's masters,we would not have taekwon do today.
haha knew they were from norway becos of the norwagian names im from norway to and was practesing taekwondo before got the yelow belt with the green stripe on but my old trainer had to quit the taekwondo becos of back damage so i got a new gay trainer that didn't give a damn didn't learn me a damn thing so i had to quit :*( but wanna start again now :P
NTN is a group from Norway. they used to be part of GTF but they have now joined ITF (v). a little strange because they are friends of Master Oldham from ITF of president GM Choi Jung Hwa. if you look past their national doboks, this technically is an ITF DEMO no matter what anyone says.
Well, it's not like GTF and ITF were all that different. The student's oath, and the belt colours mean different things. Also, the sinewave motion is more pronounced in ITF. That's about it...
You got it, ITF is the best, it is the authentic Tae Kwon Do, the centuries old Tae Kwon Do, a true martial art not a sport like what WTF turned in into.
what a very ignorant thing to say.you will see the same techniques regardless of what style it is.besides, choi was the first to present taekwon do as a sport.his founding of the itf prompted the founding of the wtf.
Taekwondo is not "centuries old". At the most, it's sixty years old. At the youngest, its a little over fourty. TKD started as a Koreanised version of Japanese and Okinawan Karate styles (mostly Shotokan), due to Imperial Japan's occupation of Korea from 1910-1945. These Koreanised Karate styles were first called "Taekwon-Do" in the 1960s.
ah your a lil off but w/e ill let you off. japan banned the korean style but there were still trained and they had several names on they reamerge after japan leaving korea. then they all strung up several names were used to the art of fist and feet eventually a coup was held and general choi took control or something united them all under the named taekwondo founded the ITF and thats history..... i just hope im right lol XD
no offense intended to any koreans, this is just what i think. when japan occupied korea they tried to replace the traditional korean martial arts like tae kyon with japanese martial arts like karate. thats why many of the form in TKD have similar elements you see in karate. i guess the use of Dans in the grading system still persist.
that`s righ! i train tkd itf and the bases of it is 2000 years old tae kyon + karate + aikido, taekwondo was created in 1955, so that`s why it has similariti with others martial arts, IT HAS THE BETTER, power of karate, speed of kung fu, locks of aikido,...the way is to achive EFFECTIVE techniques
i don't understand why you would claim itf and not choi's original style, ohdo kwan.look back to the original kwans, and not this federation stuff.the more we make taekwon do about the federations, the less of a martial art it becomes.jido kwan is my style, not wtf.
Because of some political bs, he got kicked out and founded the ITF. He were the original TKD guy, so ITF is the "first" federation. He were the leader there, and made the style. Then WTF were formed. However, they are both approx. as old.
WTF is the best is good and so is ITF. can you bitches quit being little douche bags about it and just accept they are both good. god damn so annoying and bickering all the time. LOSERS
thats bullshit, gen. choi lived in missisauga canada...there for my master is trained wit proper roots and we are the most aggrasive fighters wtf fighters are pussys they wer protection
YEAH I TOTALLY AGREE!!! ITF ROCKS!!! but we have to agree that WTF fighters have great physical strength as compared to ITF because their priority is SPARRING while ITF concentrates on TULS...
WTF sucks dick, wtf fighters dont even use their hands all they do is kick and they look like theyre doing broken ballet, so dont talk shit about ITF u guys are a rejected version of gen. Choi Hong Hees master peice
strange to see you say you adopted itf style as gtf was park jung tae who was until kicked out of the itf the technical director and was without doubt fffin amazing.ive watched your tuls they are ok but if tul says midle kick why do you kick high all the time?nice to see your promoting tkd kids need inspiration
So basically, the low kick is *at* the belt, the medium kick is solar plexus height, and the high kick is head height. (Larynx nominally, but you don't kick at someones larynx in a semi contact match.)
Why do tou think so?Do you have a problem with WTF?Your comment shows how a pathetic 2nd dan you are...needing to insult other styles to feel strong!!!....Just train and learn to respect others dumbass.
The reason i think WTF suck isn't becouse it's bad or anything, (And i'm a green belt not 2nd dan) but becouse they show TKD as a sport not an art as it really is... Taekwon-do is an art not a sport... Karate is a sport (I respect that) but not TKD and thats's why I consider it to suck
This is not true. Not that a green belt would know much (even as a blue belt, I don't know enough either), but it really boils down to what dojan you are in. The one I currently train in is very martial, and very little sport-oriented. I've been to WTF dojans that were very sport-oriented, but it's really up to where you train. As Sharik pointed out, you must learn to respect other styles and other martial arts.
Hey, Vegard Iversen is the local master who graduated me last moonth to 7th GUP, and Rune Lindgren is the founder of my club.
Sweet. And there's a story about Rune: A guy were trying to steal his car when he was in it, and pointed a gun at him. He replied: Either you'll hold on to that gun and I'll kick your ass, or you'll drop that gun, run, and I'll kick your ass. The thief shat his pants and ran away like a startled duck.

i think u`s need to change in to ITF suit and do that over again.
i think its very disrespectful to do a ITF demo/promo in GTF suits! ive read the reason to y but that doesnt change anything! GTF are proud of being GTF. im sorry u`s left after GM park died, GTF is gonna keep working on perfection to honour GM park.

Why if its ITF promotion video all people have global taekwon-do federation lables on them?
yonpets 4 years ago
everyone shut up itf and wtf are da same except when itf compete they can punch but wtf cant thats the only difference
009abz 4 years ago
I love this video, but it really brings me down to read all the ITF v.s. WTF hate. who cares? the are both great, but they differ on some things. anyone who can "hate" IFT because they train WTF and vice versa, do not deserve to be a part of either. Grow up people, and try to enjoy your own training rather than spreading all this hate.
And btw, Master Andresen is 49 or 50, not 66.

I see some people do not know about TKD at all, if you look at the history of TKD, you will see the root of TKD in Korea...yes it was changing, but it has nothing with Japan..I trained ITF for five and WTF for three years and can say that both styles are good, couple of differences, but it is still the TKD.
NehanSaS 4 years ago
Tell me what is there differences between WTF & ITF? some couple of moves or kicks or punches?
skilleskalle 4 years ago

Without all the other martial arts, how could any one see how much better Taekwon-Do is, we need all the others to show what Taekwon-Do has above all the rest.
madtoyman 4 years ago
well i partially disagree that.

The Tuls are the same but diffrences in movment and pace are still evident
iLoveNTN 4 years ago
im GTF. do u guys still practise the GTF patterns????
oh and park jung tae!! his name is GRAND MASTER PARK JUNG TAE not just park jung tae!!
GTF4life 4 years ago
NTN is former GTN - Global Taekwon-Do Norway (member of GTF with Park Jung Tae as President) When Park passed away GTN left GTF and formed its own Norwegian organisation named National Taekwon-Do Norway it stayed that way until NTN formally joined ITF led by Master Tran Trieu Quan in 2006. As of today NTN still keeps it's name but are liked internationaly with ITF.
iLoveNTN 4 years ago
The patterns are really different... I am a member of NTN (National Taekwon-do Norway) who's now converted to ITF instead... A friend of me is a member of WTF... Our patterns are completly different...

NTN is a group from Norway. they used to be part of GTF but they have now joined ITF (v). a little strange because they are friends of Master Oldham from ITF of president GM Choi Jung Hwa. if you look past their national doboks, this technically is an ITF DEMO no matter what anyone says.
all the best NTN,
taekwon
kj14itf 5 years ago
Well, it's not like GTF and ITF were all that different. The student's oath, and the belt colours mean different things. Also, the sinewave motion is more pronounced in ITF. That's about it...

Slayermagic 5 years ago
You got it, ITF is the best, it is the authentic Tae Kwon Do, the centuries old Tae Kwon Do, a true martial art not a sport like what WTF turned in into.
Elementality88 5 years ago
what a very ignorant thing to say.you will see the same techniques regardless of what style it is.besides, choi was the first to present taekwon do as a sport.his founding of the itf prompted the founding of the wtf.
kidhadoken 5 years ago
Taekwondo is not "centuries old". At the most, it's sixty years old. At the youngest, its a little over fourty. TKD started as a Koreanised version of Japanese and Okinawan Karate styles (mostly Shotokan), due to Imperial Japan's occupation of Korea from 1910-1945. These Koreanised Karate styles were first called "Taekwon-Do" in the 1960s.
nadogi 4 years ago
ah your a lil off but w/e ill let you off. japan banned the korean style but there were still trained and they had several names on they reamerge after japan leaving korea. then they all strung up several names were used to the art of fist and feet eventually a coup was held and general choi took control or something united them all under the named taekwondo founded the ITF and thats history..... i just hope im right lol XD

Nice vid but why do you refer to everyone as 'Dan' grades - isn't that the Japanese grading system?
redmistpete 5 years ago
ok...if i didn't remember wrongly, General Choi 1st learn karate from the japanese before he founded taekwondo...
maybe that is why it's called 'DAN'
please correct me if i am wrong
kenji1to6 5 years ago
no offense intended to any koreans, this is just what i think. when japan occupied korea they tried to replace the traditional korean martial arts like tae kyon with japanese martial arts like karate. thats why many of the form in TKD have similar elements you see in karate. i guess the use of Dans in the grading system still persist.
kaixing25 5 years ago
Some of the forms and many of the techniques in TKD are similar to Karate because TKD is based on the Karate system ;)
redmistpete 5 years ago
that`s righ! i train tkd itf and the bases of it is 2000 years old tae kyon + karate + aikido, taekwondo was created in 1955, so that`s why it has similariti with others martial arts, IT HAS THE BETTER, power of karate, speed of kung fu, locks of aikido,...the way is to achive EFFECTIVE techniques
uncabro 5 years ago
i don't understand why you would claim itf and not choi's original style, ohdo kwan.look back to the original kwans, and not this federation stuff.the more we make taekwon do about the federations, the less of a martial art it becomes.jido kwan is my style, not wtf.
kidhadoken 5 years ago
Because of some political bs, he got kicked out and founded the ITF. He were the original TKD guy, so ITF is the "first" federation. He were the leader there, and made the style. Then WTF were formed. However, they are both approx. as old.

strange to see you say you adopted itf style as gtf was park jung tae who was until kicked out of the itf the technical director and was without doubt fffin amazing.ive watched your tuls they are ok but if tul says midle kick why do you kick high all the time?nice to see your promoting tkd kids need inspiration
a1drifter 5 years ago
No kicks below the belt and all that.
So basically, the low kick is *at* the belt, the medium kick is solar plexus height, and the high kick is head height. (Larynx nominally, but you don't kick at someones larynx in a semi contact match.)
KillaHaakon 5 years ago
im Blak belt 2 dan From itf and wtf sucks so much
Eioris 5 years ago
i m also black belt 2nd dan from ITF... but the comment about WTF, hmm, i would say it depends on individual...
so don't make such an extreme comment again, ok? =)
kenji1to6 5 years ago
Why do tou think so?Do you have a problem with WTF?Your comment shows how a pathetic 2nd dan you are...needing to insult other styles to feel strong!!!....Just train and learn to respect others dumbass.
SharikTheReal 4 years ago
The reason i think WTF suck isn't becouse it's bad or anything, (And i'm a green belt not 2nd dan) but becouse they show TKD as a sport not an art as it really is... Taekwon-do is an art not a sport... Karate is a sport (I respect that) but not TKD and thats's why I consider it to suck
Andy9305 4 years ago
