Try looking at the publication dates for both series.  (Ms Harris' books came out well in advance of Ms Meyers).

As True Blood continues you are going to find that there are more "special" people and so, you will find more differences than similarities to the Twlight series. Also, keep in mind that there are some changes from the actual book. For one, Tara wasn't African American and the book and she certainly did not have any type of feelings for Sam.

I think I mean I haven't read the true blood book or anything but I think if the show had werewolves in it... then that would be TOO much because I mean twilight and true blood are already a like in many ways and it would really be too much if true blood had werewolves in the show... I mean I already named that dog on the show "Jacob" haha because it's like Jacob Black lol...

There are a lot of books & movies that have both Vampires and Werewolves in them. Heck, the Laurel K Hamilton books have a Human-Vamp-Were love triangle in them. (And she did hers long before Ms. Meyer did too.)
