  • you sound like a sinn feiner from your political veiws and your dead right i live westmeath and i think a new government is in need if there was more people in this fuckin country that speak their mind and do something about it ireland would be different and much better to live

  • @theginjaninja1995155 I don't really go for the party politics.

I think that is what really screwed up this country, people voting for a particular group because their family has always voted for them.

  • @bobomcgraw Why are you talking about Ireland? You are not Irish, you are a Yank.

And the law here is FAR better than Yankee law, you can all sue each other constantly and all need to have shrinks like the typical fat DUMB Yank cunts you are.

  • WTF are you? you look like something outta star wars talkin shite stop making fools out of all the normal people in Ireland im from tallaght and u sound more american then irish no matter where you say yer from no offense americans peace

  • @cmfcmfcmf Grammar.

  • In the US, If someone Breaks into Your Home, You can Shoot him/her on Sight! Kill them, Beat their sculls until Brain Matter busts! Anything to Defend Your Castle!

  • @holmesbinton Doesn't that depend on what state you're living in?

  • @bobomcgraw, That's a big Question! but every state I've been in, You can Shoot to Kill!

  • @holmesbinton I think that it was brought in here recently, or they tried to bring it in, but some people had an issue with it, they felt the wording in the law was too open to interpretation or something.

  • @holmesbinton We don't give to fucks what the Yanks do in their own country, you are completely irrelevant to the Irish.

And there is no such thing as Yank Castles.

  • @Calengela, A figure of Speech. You're not being very Nice and I love you! Just kidding! You have a Very nice Channel. Besides, I'm Proud to be a Yank! Yanks were the First on the Moon! ;)

  • i'm from canada, and our justic system is the same way. if you defend youself against a burgler you can get sued by him. its happened before.

  • Hey; great videos; I'm in America so can only comment here; imagine being in a country where governmant is run by rich stupid white idiots and their assorted ass-kissers; religious-right hypocrites and cowboys; at least you have the beauty and Guiness; I'm American but planning on retiring to Ireland in 13 years.

  • @malevich2007 No thanks Yank, stay in your own country.

  • jaysus that fucker would bore you to death,,SHUT UP!!!!!

  • This is why Republicans rock. Republican states have Castle Laws, liberals hate them. In Texas you can shoot em dead and all is well. You have every right to protect your home and family, anyone who thinks different is retarded.

  • The only thing i don't like about ireland is all the foreigners taking our money and the stupid ignorant politicians ''cough'' michael martin ''cough'' who are complete jokes

  • @JordoF6 Who are you voting for?

  • @bobomcgraw the man with the glasses and white hair in the green party i think hes good forgot his name he was on the morning show exposing all the corrupt bankers and politicians.I agree with you a lot of us irish are arrogant but not stupid we where never a stupid country where juat arrogant!

  • @JordoF6 I'm not too fond of the Greens now.

I know they have good intentions but they really picked the wrong time and the wrong way to try and improve the country.

  • @bobomcgraw well i agree with you there its like hey guys all the other parties look bad lets rat on them so we look good.

  • @JordoF6 There is that too.

Didn't one of FF do that a while back, tried to distance himself from the rest of the party and only came across like a rat trying to escape a sinking ship?

  • @bobomcgraw Liberals in America think taxing people during a recession will help the economy. Sigh....

  • how dare you say that about ireand u fuking gobe shit and your not irish you dont have the irish pride dont you fucking put on the irish acent

  • yea if u think ireland is crap ur just a gay bastard

  • canada is the same way. if someone assaults you you are just as guilty as they are if you defend yourself physically. the only way you can take legal action is if you don't touch them while they kick your ass pretty much and as long as you have a witness standing there. canada has the same laws as ireland for the whole break and entering thing. i guess our government looks at texas and their "castle law" and wants to do the exact opposite.

  • Whats this about Ireland the "Celtic Tiger" ?? The truth is Ireland was once in potato famine and therefore will ALWAYS be in potato famine.

  • you are not very bright bobomcgraw slagging off ireland and then posting your face all over the net. i think it's something that you will regret in the near future. it's bound to happen.

  • @physicsno1 Only if people disagree, and considering the current state of this country you'd have to be especially stubborn for that to happen.

  • @robtherob1000 the Irish have the bravest nation in the world. They stood up and faught against one of the most powerful nations in the world. They faught in Spanish French Mexican revolution for their peoples the US civil war and that's only a few .they saved and spread Christianity throughout the world. So will you go and Pog mo thone Agus slan leat.you idiot!!!

  • You're boring.

  • Ye are racist dickheads!!

  • i agree with this guy. The irish are completely idiots. Red skin ginger hair stupid morons.

  • the working and middle classes will always suffer our government mistakes never underestimate the stupidity and callous greed of our leaders, ghettos and racial aparthied could be our future, look at the eu/imf,and all the problems there, nobodys going back home, there are even people in ireland holidaying for over ten years, how is that good for the economy, people with a chip on their shoulder and bring up their kids to hate us irish?speak out,i do my bit everyday, and it is honest ppl like u & me!!!

  • we will be picking up the tab for them,& judging by the ghetto situation we have in london, sweden,U.S,racism & aparthied will be directed towards the irish citizens of that host nation, look at race attacks in london,i am no extremist sort,i can see whats down the road if we don't act fast..get active, start asking q's,do what it takes, talk about it publicly to others,i know i will be asking each party political member what their immigration policy is before deciding to vote for them for a start!

  • @phileustece How dare you victimize the struggling irish folk and then make outrageous allegations that we are somehow to blame for our shattered economy? Irish people do not deserve the hand of cruelty at this vulnerable time in their history. Potato famine was a different situation. Why should we forever revert our thinking to the potato famine to solve modern-day problems? You are just causing more pain and suffering you nasty creep !

  • Cant you people see whats happening to Ireland? Ireland is being accused *wrongfully* of dragging themselves into their own mess. Cant people understand that Ireland is in fact the VICTIM? Its all about globalization and the islamization of Europe. If it werent for the huge expenses paid to immigrants under the common trust funds from the European Union and United Nations (which Ireland pays towards) we as Irish people would not be in this mess at all. Phileustace you are disgracefully rude!

  • All is well when you sit in your chair giving out about it, get up and do something to help the country!

  • I am guessing your upper lip is deformed from people punching it!

  • well said, and what we have now is an unsustainable system, where the globalist multinational giants are fleecing ireland, lumping us with immigrants, more council, more tax dodgers opening shops,is not what ireland needs!after they fuck off back to europe, they leave behind - GHETTOISM.Look@ whats happening in birmingham ,londonistan and swedenistan, the creme de la creme at the top,can just jet off, leave us to pick up the tab yet again, the media, government support this as they dont have to live it

  • @IrishLassie1986 - I agree 100% in what you say. In Sweden, islamic men are causing a 60% rise in the rape of white women. At the same time, these boisterous and sexist islamic men are refusing to work and pay taxes and just as you said "create ghettos". On top of this the Swedish people are suffering the loss of their culture and the loss of their economy through thousands of dollars being misspent on these arab immigrants. And as everyone knows, arab men love sexually abusing white women!

  • @IrishLassie1986 your right, we have to stop islamic immigration into ireland, multiculturalism only works if a people integrates into the host culture, and remains a minority, and judging by the way they come here, and have 8 or 9 children each, I doubt that is the plan as such.

  • Look at Ireland now. Its almost as bad as the potato famine all over again. Do you think the world is to blame? No of course not. The irish brought this on themselves through dodgy property investments and insularity to outside views. I have also known irish people on a personal level and they are extremely irrational, hold grudges and have no common sense. So is it any wonder why Ireland is fucked?!

  • @phileustace And greedy, don't forget greedy.

  • @phileustace oh go to hell, do you actually think all of us are like that? do you actually think we all made dodgy property investments, do you really think we are all irrational? your irish friends whom you knew on a personal level were obviously dickheads but honestly it doesnt mean that we are all fucked in the head. However we do hold grudges, more reason for you to fuck off.

  • @phileustace HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA your an intellectual aren't you? what a fucking freak, lol, listen, i sure as hell didnt cause this crisis, so why not tell the bankers and fatcat politicians who caused this to drown. But hey I guess you being ignorant, and inferior minded means that you liken every irishman to brian cowen. But hey youd never say that to an irishmans face, because your a fucking coward, so your words mean nothing:D

  • Like the sound of your own voice much? I think you are the one who is out of touch with reality... fuckin ejit!

  • 5th best country in the world to live in.

8th best education system in the world.

Stupid? No. Going through a turbulent time? Well, yes, obviously.

  • The law that you shouldn't defend yourselved when your house is broken into is to prevent violence and save lives. We've all seen those ridiculous cases where the victim gets screwed, not just Ireland. The Government IS incompetent and ridiculous I do agree. But Ireland isn't a shithole, it's one of the best countries in the world to live in officialy. But man seriously, the whole "defend yourself" thing is to make sure nobody gets hurt. I'm not going to call you names because I'm not stupid....

  • @Fosisticated Save whose lives?

  • @bobomcgraw

Both parties. If you confronted the criminal, you're scared, they're scared and that could cause anything to happen. I'm just saying

  • @Fosisticated Did I tell the story of my dad's friend who moved to the states in this video?

I may have told one about a farmer.

  • @bobomcgraw

I don't think you did. Why what happened?

  • @Fosisticated He had been advised to buy a gun so he did.

One night he woke up to hear noises downstairs so he grabbed his gun and went down to investigate.

He found a burglar and held the gun on him as he phoned the police.

The burglar told him that he would be out of prison in no time at all and when he got out he was going to come back and kill him.

    So he shot him.

When the police arrived and he told them the story they told him that he had done the right thing.

  • @bobomcgraw I don't think that's legal but maybe it was at the disgression of the police or the guy had a history? Or that could be the law in America, to defend your home. I'm not sure really but I think your dad's friend did the right thing. Though he would've gone to prison in Ireland, which I do agree is ridiculous

  • @Fosisticated I think he was in Chicago.

  • @bobomcgraw Yeah the states govern their own laws so that would make sense

  • sorry kid but you look to me as a fuckin fool shut up and get some friends ya smelly rat lookin cunt

  • tell us all were u live if ya the big man

  • you are a retard i would love to meet u id cut your head of fuck off sumwere elce if u dont like it

  • IF U HATE THIS GUY GIVE ME A THUMBS UP

  • what a fucking faggot,an irish person posting bad videos about ireland, fucking clown..hes the biggest nerdlinger going..

  • Wow.... um.. to tell the truth, there was a court case, like the one you stated in this video, here in America and the state had to pay the person who got hurt.

  • 2008, D12 area. Man broke into my garage to steal my motorbike. To make a long story short I stood on him until the cops arrived. I broke his jaw and dislocated his shoulder. He got a 6 months suspended and I got a clap on the back by the cops.

There was never a question about the force I used.

  • Same thing here in America! Governments ir in favor of the criminal! Howdy from Chicago!

  • bobo this stuff happens in us,too. some years ago a small town in florida require all their citizens to have guns. surprise! the crime rate went down. my family in nyc, where cannot own handguns, even for home protection, have german shepherds. they do the job quite nicely. what's better than a german shepherd? two german shepherds.

  • The Catholic Irish are the most stupid race of people on the planet

  • @yam500 clearly, you don't know many irish people. there are over 50 million of us in the us. we're not hanging around the corners not working. we have done very well. you are a bigot.

  • @5218bunny Over 50 million in the US?? Are you drunk while posting again. btw I am not a bigot, I see things as they are son..

  • @yam500 you don't see well,dope.

  • @5218bunny now now son, 50 million in the US lol lol lol

  • You are perfectly entitled to your opinion (ironically small minded as it is). However, to me it seems that you haven't offered any solutions. What country isn't 'stupid'? Also, this video nearly touches 9 minutes in length. During which you make one point, about the defence and dwelling law (which was, by the way, changed this year to allow tenants to stand their grounds). Perhaps you should learn to self edit if you want to avoid coming off as ignorant.

  • @eoghanhickey2 Denying people the right to self defense is stupid, it is a point that irks me to no end, hence my ability to rant about it for 9 minutes.

Also, this video was made about a year before they changed the law, or did you not bother to check the date on the video before making your little assumption?

I would have taken your comment more seriously except for your blatant misuse of the word 'ironically'.

  • @bobomcgraw Goodness that is a condescending and dismissive tone. I am aware of when the video was posted. The 'little assumption' is on your part. I am capable of thinking before I speak. Did you ever consider why the law was written the way it was?

I stand by my observation of irony. You seem to have me confused with a moron. Oh and that 'case', involving the friend of your uncles friend, is a pretty well known hypothetical situation. It appears, almost word for word, in the film Liar Liar

  • @eoghanhickey2 Stand by it all you want, you're still using the word incorrectly.

  • @bobomcgraw Or perhaps your command of the English language isn't as strong as you would like to think it is. I think it's interesting that you are still grasping for some sort of intellectual high ground, instead of defending the points you made in the video. Why is that I wonder

  • @eoghanhickey2 Why don't you tell me what you think irony is.

Because, one, I can't be arsed, two, you need to be a bit more specific in your attacks and three, I can't be arsed.

  • If i see you im gonna beat you down how dare you talk about the country.

  • @vipmousasi I find your comment amusing.

  • @vipmousasi about a 10 on the tension scale of 1-10 there. calm down and chill out a bit there man.

@bob i agree thats a stupid law. obviously you should have a right to protect yourself your fam and your property. i agree criminals have more rights some times than victims. its unbelievably stupid sometimes.all governments are messed up. i coulld write a book on it here. but i do love my country, even with some our idiots who have power. don't let it get ot you.

  • you speak truth about irelands current situation our goverments fucked us sideways

  • Irish have now become discovered as the most manipulative, dirty, filthy, child molesting shits, preaching religion, dictating, whilst sticking their doo dar in kids....yes other countries also, but I know of no other country that manipulates their family through shame and guilt, its disgusting, I know so many people who are just getting over being raised like that, its a cripling mental condition.... and Ireland needs to stop trying to talk like the British lately...

  • Total idiot, refuse, irony! He quotes law inaccurately, he uses no names? A case he cannot name. "his uncles friend who has a friend who was not directly involved" cannot name town, store where incident happened? What an idot, he cannot stay point, what's this idiot do for a living, stupid this, stupid that!!

Laws and authority there so we can at least attempt to be civilised! Take the law into your own hands and you end up in jail, hide the body!!!!

Tough guy would fight back ha!!

  • @MrGaelicLad How about you try and compose a complete sentence before you question my intelligence?

    Or a legitimate argument even?

Calling me stupid does not prove you correct.

Laws and authority are meaningless without justice, which this country has very little of.

  • ur a narrow minded cunt ireland is one of the greatest places to live because of the way our government is run. its a REPUBLIC. so why dont u travel a bit and see the world. with ur fucking fag want to b posh accent.

  • @paulquinn83 Jesus Christ! Are we living in the same Ireland?

I ask because your statements have NO connection with reality at all.

  • @paulquinn83 hey, quinn, try giving up the gay bashing. it makes you sound really stupid. it 2010 grow the fuck up.

  • that law has been changed recently. . . . .recently

  • ur a muppit

  • lol it's the same way in america

  • If you dont like ireland get the fuck out!! You'll never have to worry about money because your daddy plays golf with bertie ahern you hypocritical southside fuck!! I hope your mates see the videos you make and are all laughing at you behind your back or maybe they're all simply just like you, or more likely you have none!! Iv'e never heard anyone sound so gay whilst swearing, betya wouldn't swear in front of mummy or she'd give ya a good spankin mommas boy!!!

  • @Riderlad Southside?

    I'm not from Dublin.

    My dad was a farmer.

  • go kill yourself mate

you live down the southside you dont need to worry about money you lowlife waster cunt you make no sense, ireland isnt a stupid country, just the government you said they do stupid things about 8 times so go kill yourself people like you should hang

  • @RetardedFilmClips This is a full stop . and this is a comma ,

    They are not your enemy.

  • wait... isn't the skylight story from jim carey's liar liar... as for the goverment, dont vote ff or fg vote sinn fein.

  • @ajh1234 I heard that story years before Liar Liar was released.

  • Why does he have an american accent for the first 20 seconds....?

  • @macunfraidh Beacause he is a pathetic white class shithead from dublin who's daddy is probably a judge. He can shove his irony up his arse

  • So Ireland is kind of like America?

  • trust me its not just Ireland.. England has the same fucked up laws and the same twisted government. We have a shared government at the moment and I dont think they even know what they are doing. With regards to breaking the law - I think when someone is hurting or taking something from someone else they should lose all human right, the law protects the human rights of the assholes that break the law but the law breaker doesnt give a shit about the person they are hurting human right. aarrrghhhh

  • i'm irish but i pretty much settled and living in the uk for last 5 or 6 years, recently made redundant, on unemployment benefit in the uk but i can't understand how much more you get in ireland compared with britain, for a country thats in massive debt, if i got the welfare in ireland you would be inclined not to bother looking for work because theres jobs that'd pay less, its generious it takes away the incentive

  • Nice vid man, I agree with just about everything you said, however ya have to remember that laws, government and the system in general is not set up to benefit anyone except those that make the rules, those in power with title and wealth. The Irish government, like most governments couldn't care less about low income families and taking money from those that don't have very much of it during an economic crisis is not a new concept my friend.

  • @Barry316 That is a very sad truth.

  • Comment removed

  • First true video about irish

  • just to tell you i am from ireland

  • the irish are incredibly clever! and a great wit about them

  • LOL this sort of rubbish happens in the UK as well! We get farmers jailed for using a shotguns on people who try to rob their homes! I wouldn't be suprised if it was all these EU laws coming through. They are all for liberalism, irrationality and laws like these in every country proves they are idealists as opposed to realists. In fact, it's not even being an idealist! It's just being idiotic!

And yes, attempted murder might as well have been actual murder.

  • @GoldenbanjoDJ I forget what this video was about.

I figure I mentioned our 'odd' legal system.

  • Bollocks.

  • @stitchkaboodle999 Hu the fuck are you calling a bollocks????

    Fucking gay little cunt!!!

  • @Cooleoh2211 At last!!!

    A fukin irish person!!!!

all ye queers are probably fukin americans!!!

  • Comment removed

  • I am embarresed for this fukin prick 2 be the same nationality as me!!!!!!!!!

  • i agree with u bud, ireland sucks big time!!im irish 2 and feel embarressed to say it these days with da way its been run.we have a march in dublin every week now on rights 2 work and da point is been lost in da media which reports it as"protest pasts peacfully r dar was trouble on da streets due to protesters" not why they r protesting!!fuck da government and dar lap dogs i.e. media.its a joke and 2 many people r being suckt in by it all, proaganda at its best ,da woundnt have done it better!!

  • i think the comments from irish people saying "your gay" as the best, most intelligent insult they can come up with only further proves your point.

but yes, agreed man. <3 keep up the good work!

  • ireland an iraq without oil

  • I agree man, how the hell can they call protecting the criminals justice? Especially when most of these bastard politicians have round the clock security.

As far as I'm concerned if someone threatens my family with a knife or gun and I manage to kill them in defence, that is justified murder.

  • gay

    gay

    gay

    gay

gagging for cock in the mouth :0¬

  • @Sweeney941 Your comment represents your intelligence as an Irish person. In case you haven't figured it out yet, that's NOT GOOD! Duh, understand yet?

because ye obviously never get out of yer houses!!!!!

  • gay

    faggot

    queer

  • Pity the British ! , I grant you , our government it ten times worse than yours :D

  • And you know why that is? because everyones bought into that hippe pacifist shit, everyones believes that a peaceful protest will get the government to cop on but it won't you know and even when someone mentions the IRA there's war, they may have become criminals but they're the type of criminals we need to get this country back together because nobody else will have the balls to confront Fianna Fail but don't forget they were voted in, in the 1st place so it can favor the rich crowd

  • Well now things have changed, if someone breaks into your house you can blow their heads off, and its because of pussy hippie liberals for our fucked up system because since the day we got rid of the death penalty our justice system has been a joke and yes Fianna Fail need to be shot but who do you think will do a better job? Fine Gael, Labour, The Green Party? all political parties are a joke and why did they raise taxes? because they can get away with it because the Republic has lost its balls

  • I am Irish and I agree. You see all the Irish will probably agree with you too.

But here is a case I know. A Pupil set their school on fire. They only damaged two rooms. Now they have to go prison for 9 years. 1 year short of the sentence for killing someone. WTF?

  • @Marzipaz Attempted murder and actual murder should carry the same sentence.

Why should someone get off just because they failed to kill someone?

  • @bobomcgraw I'm sorry I failed to mention that the school was empty at the time.

In fact it was during the summer break. No one in there.

    That was my fault sorry.

  • I hate Ireland aswell

  • i will sue u!

  • ur irish u dip shit !

  • ur a gay faggot!!!

    Ireland is fukin unreal!!!!

any1 dat isnt irish shud b killed!!!!!!!!!!

  • @Sweeney941

Go to hell and shut up you pathetic , racist ,moron

  • wel ur gay and u dnt hav a fukin clue

wat ireland is like u gay cunt!!!!

    up the boyos!!!!

  • As the last person who has posted here said, every country has its "dark sides". I agree with you when it comes to defend yourself and also your house from anyone who broke into, and sometimes the laws are not as perfect as they must be, but politicians are stupid and this is not a quality only available for the Irish ones, it happens all around the world. I don't live in Ireland, but believe me, there are places in far worse conditions.

  • I'm well aware that there are countries in worse states than this one, but I can't really complain about it as I don't live there.

I can comment on it, but not complain.

The imbalance of laws elsewhere does not affect me, but the denial of the right to defend myself does.

  • I love Ireland, too, even though I am not Irish. As I said earlier, every country has its "dark sides", and I hope that all countries will manage to fix them. Killing the whole idea instead of fixing the flaws is always easier, that is why most people choose that way. It should, however, be obvious that the easiest way very rarely is the best. And yet I love Ireland, I do not know why^^

  • I'm from Dublin, and I 100% agree with you!

  • well, I gree but i still love ireland, i think its great, yeah its stupid but ah well

  • i think ireland is the best country going dude !! and im proud to be irish and its beautful to look as iswell <3 (=

  • I call it as it is, if you don't like then that is just too bad.

The problem cannot be fixed by ignoring it.

  • haha wow that's ridiculous about the run away if someone brakes in. I'm sorry but If I was in Ireland and someone came in my home with a weapon and threatened my family I'd have to kill them :P sounds like criminals have more rights than citizens

  • I heard they plan on changing the law so that home owners will be allowed to defend themselves against intruders.

    It's about damn time.

  • that's awesome

  • As a fellow Irishman, I must commend you for making this video, our laws are fucked. If we can't defend ourselves against murderers, rapists or burglars from victimising us, then how the fuck is that supposed to stop the crime, which is the purpose of law in the first place I believe? Stopping crime to begin with! Even if someone did break into my house, I wouldn't run and hide, I'd attack that fucker regardless of what the law is, it's a natural reaction.

  • years back someone told me the difference between a police officer in the States and a Garda here is that a police officer is there to serve the people whereas a Garda is there to protect the peace (in fact that is apparently what the name translates into English as).

Fuck it, if a law makes you guilty for being the victim of a crime and the government or courts have no intention of changing it then it should be out of their hands and into ours.

  • I think it's time people were given power over themselves, how the fuck are we supposed to evolve as a species if we're being ruled by tyrants who's only desire in life is to get rich.

  • I heard about the new self defence law they planned on bringing in, I haven't really heard anything about it since then.

What annoyed me were the people against it for really stupid reasons.

They claimed there were flaws in it, my response is "If there are flaws THEN FIX THEM! Don't scrap the whole thing because it isn't immediately perfect, you'll be scrapping just about everything in that case".

  • "beautiful to look at but our government needs to be fuckin kicked out and get people in who actually know what they're doing"

    Ditto on America...

  • @chibiusaoni our government actually do know what they are doing. they are the only ones with a decisive plan to get the country back on track. dont just jump on the dissing the government band wagon for the craic of it.

  • @gingefring I'm not doing ot to jump on any band wagon. I'm dissing my (the American) government because I find it idiotic and detrimental to the people.

That is why I quoted him and said "ditto on america." We are absolutely gorgeous geographically. We are absolutely retarded politically. The only experience I have with the Irish government is what friends and family tell me.

  • Governments justify their own means. It's for their own gain and greed.

  • I'm an American and the government in the U.S. is worse off than Ireland. I visited Ireland in 2003 and was told that Dublin wasn't that safe so I left for the countryside. I was surprise to see a side of Ireland I've never seen. I met a few good Irish folk. I believe God led me here to tell you that Jesus Christ will bring retribution to the world. We just have to believe in Him and have hope. He's for real and coming soon. Jesus loves you!

  • And surely one of the most difficult questions to unravel. Influence from the environment begins as soon as you come into this world. Can somebody be born bad? One cannot say for sure, I would rather believe not.

As we agreed on earlier: The behavior of a person is the result of a most complex interrelation of genetics, upbringing, education, environment, beliefs of society, interaction with other beings and their upbringing and education, feelings of success, response...

  • A absolutely agree on your point about Prison systems. What we (as a siciety) have to do is a) facilitate rehabilitation by applying intense psychological care and b) investigate reasons (and please do not understand reasons as justification) for a certain ('criminal') behavior in order to avoid that in the future. I might be a bit of a visionary, but I am sure that if we do it right, prisons are not going to be necessary any more (in far far future).

  • Like I said previously, we cannot blame the environment we're raised in for all our faults.

It's the old nature vs nurture debate, how much of us, our personality, is trained by life, experiences etc. and how much is purely genetic?

  • It is definitely one of if not the most complex thing in the world, that is true. But people are not born bad (everybody is equipped with two things: emotions & ethic sensibility), they are born into a society that makes them bad through several things, for example having to be an "arsehole" in order to survive. They then pass this (necessity / attitude) down to the next generation, as well as the dispair that comes with it and nobody is going to change a thing - a very sad vicious circle.

  • I would have to disagree on some of those points.

Some people are born bad, whether it be a tendency towards violence or full on sociopathy.

We have to teach our children right from wrong, that kind of knowledge is not something we are born with.

I don't think humanity will overcome our less than positive traits anytime soon, especially since a lot of them are actually ingrained into us.

That aggression people go on about, that is part of who we are.

It's the reason our species is still alive.

  • There are so many aspects that are interwoven... A country's government surely is one of those aspects that make peoples' lives harder than is should be. A lot of anger among the people came through stupid government regulations... (to get back to the topic)

  • That obviously is a flaw in the Irish system. But just a quick note on freedom: The more a person is free the less his psyche is damaged. The less it is damaged, the less is he likely to harm other people or himself. This violence is surely one of the most important aspects in the world that we are actually meant to take care of, but we do not. We lock people up in jail and pretend everything was fine. People have to become aware of the damage they can do while raising and educating children...

  • I would disagree somewhat with the freedom vs damaged psyche point.

Some people are just bad, some people get trained to be that way, some people have to be in order to survive.

It's more complex than they're just not free enough.

Prison systems hardly work, there's not enough rehabilitation and I do think we need more community service, if people act in a way that harms society they should be forced to help mend it afterwards.

  • I am always careful with the US - you certainly are allowed to shoot people for breaking into your home (as a defense), but certain other restrictions (among other regulations) appear to be quite extreme.

Personal freedom (I think) should be most important (as long as it does not limit the freedom of others). As far as what I have heard and read about the US this is not at all the case (though I must admit that I would have to get back deeper into the matter again to be able to give examples).
